Warlock Rifts would be better if Healings offered Restoration x2, Empowered let you travel with a 25% buff, and the cast times were quicker in exchange for the Overshield and a longer cooldown

I don't think it's out of place to say Warlock Rifts have been trash in D2 pretty much the whole time and they need to evolve. Warlock Rifts require that you lock into one place and hold defensively even though it offers no defensive benefits outside of the Overshield which in Endgame may as well be paper. Just comparing to other class abilities you begin to see a trend. ____________________ Barricade: The Titan's Barricade disorients and damages any enemies that attempt to pass through it while offering reload handling and range to all your weapons while in the radius of it. There are many builds that offer much more than that even without an exotic like Bastion and Drengr's Lash which offer a Void Overshield (to everyone) and Suspending respectively. The main strength of a Barricade though is the Disorienting ability and it's safety. Being able to pop one where enemies will spawn or to break up a lane and engage enemies from safety while they're unable to retaliate. On top of that the use is pretty quick I can't say I've ever died popping a Barricade in PvE, and it has a 38 second cooldown making it pretty forgiving to use because even if you mess up it'll return pretty quickly Dodge: The Hunter's Dodge can either refund your melee or reload your weapons, but there's also Invisibility, a suspending dodge, the Acrobat's Dodge (1:22 cooldown) that just offers you Radiant for a 25% damage buff . All are instant use and of course can do all this without an exotic while having a 29 second cooldown. Rift: Offers Healing on par with Restoration x1 or Empowerment which at 20% is weaker than Radiant within maybe a 1.5 meter radius. It doesn't have benefits for being outside of the rift and it doesn't disorient or damage enemies base, but you can build to freeze enemies with Frostpulse or play zone control with Void Souls and Arc Souls (for everyone). The use is slow, I can't count on my hands the amount of times I've died popping a rift either because I got pushed or slid just a little too long and got stuck in the animation in an unforgiving spot, and the cooldown is 1:22 which mind you is 9 seconds slower than a healing grenade that does offer Restoration x2 and is 1 second short of Incinerator Snap which offers Radiant for a 25% buff. ____________________ At 1:22 cooldown you could get 2 Barricades and 3 Dodges out before you'd get 1 rift out in most cases. At these valves I'd happily sacrifice the Overshield and hike the cooldown to 1:30 or even 1:40 for a simple Restoration x2 buff from Healing a 25% damage buff from Empowered and a quicker casting time.

  • Hows this for an idea: Exotic armour that lets the rift stay with you, so when you move it moves with you. Like a player highlight curser in Sports games.

    • Rift is by far the strongest PvE class ability and has no issues keeping up inside of PvP.

I think Class abilities need an overall revamp so the better synergies into subclasses This is easiest on Warlock Void : Healing Rifts grant a slow charging Void Overshield. Stepping outside of a Rift causes the Overshield to disappear, unless using Echo of Persistent, where it will then gain a short duration outside of a Rift. To make sure Titans continue as the Overshield Mains, we should make Overshields more potent when using Bastion. Let’s say it’s buffed to 100 health, and when an Overshield breaks, your next melee attack weakens a target. Solar : Alternate Class ability exists. No need for a buff to the rifts Arc : Empowering Rifts indefinitely extend the duration of any Arc Buff applied to you or another player while standing within it. Strand : new ability. Field Rift. Create a larger radius rift that does not heal you nor does it empower you. Rather, it creates a field that will cause a low amount of tick damage and unravel any target within. Should an enemy die within the field rift, they have a high chance to spawn a threadling. Stasis : Healing Rifts grant a stack of Frost Armor and extend its duration indefinitely. If you are using Frost Pulse, Frost Armor causes a shattering explosion upon expenditure.

        • Buff to empowering would be the only thing I can say is needed. Radiant out paces it.

        • Respectfully, rifts are fine where they are. As a Hunter main and Warlock second, our dodge almost exclusively benefits us and not our team. Barricades and rifts allow support for your fireteam not just the individual, and since it lingers much longer than a 1 second animation dodge it is going to have a longer cooldown. Plus, it lasts as long as its duration when cast unlike barricades which are destroyed by damage. Given that it rifts heal and the animation time isn’t that bad, rift is fine where it is. There are a lot of ways to rift spam (Void Breaches, Arc, mods) and it just takes some build work to achieve. Plus, roaming radiant as you’ve essentially recommended for empowering rift would make Solar Hunter useless since its focus is giving radiant to your team, let alone make Warlock a one man army which isn’t really the intent of the game. Also the Restoration x2 would make playing Solar almost pointless for Warlocks, which isn’t the point. As others have mentioned, there are other abilities that Warlocks have access to that heal and overcompensate for rift, like Void Souls, Healing Grenades, and other abilities that give buffs to your whole team and enhance rifts like freezing rift and Arc Souls. Warlocks aren’t designed to cast rift a lot, while Hunters are designed to dodge more since it doesn’t offer survivability for their team, it has more utility focus.

          • Rifts have always been absolute garbage in D2 since the beginning and has had zero meaningful buffs throughout. "But here's overpowered or interesting hunter dodge exotic number 45" -Bungie

They will never change the cast time. They haven't changed it in several years, they obviously don't think it's a problem or don't have the bandwidth to do anything.

              • Personally I think that they should be auras with faster casting animations instead. Rift is the only class ability that cannot be used as a reaction. You have to be preemptive and event then it changes almost nothing in any engagement. When you actually need it you end up dying mid animation if you have the balls and lack the brains and make the decision to cast it in the open lol. Healing aura should provide a quick burst and then constant healing over a let’s say ten second period. Empowering should grant ability energy from damage dealt while the aura is active. Rift is all around a terrible ability in pretty much every aspect with the way the game currently functions

The rifts aren't in a bad place right now, but they are kinda outdated. I do feel like the cooldowns are a bit excessive, but maybe that's just because dodge has such a low cooldown.

They're fine how they are, a faster cast time would be cool but not necessary. If you're using rift in the open to tank damage you're using it wrong.

                • Yeah. That would make them better. They'd also be better if they made rainbows come out of our butts. Or if they made us completely invincible for the rest of the game. That would technically be "Better". They're fine the way they are.

                  • I would literally main an exotic that's ONLY perk was "cast your rift faster" . If any Warlock subclass has an alternative to rift I use that 100% of the weave. Solar - Phoenix Dive Strand - Weavewalk I know Weavewalk isn't a "class ability" persay but I gotta press my class ability button to use it then I'm free to run away and use rift to spawn my little buggies.

                    • Warlocks are supposed to be the primary source for Cure×1×2×3, Titans for Restorations, and Hunters for Radiant. To be blunt, appealing to Acrobat's Dodge (in its current form anyways) isn't a very compelling argument. I will concede that the new Heal Clip appears to be overstepping into Warlocks' design space. Instead of providing the user easy-access to Cure×2, a Cure×1 + small Restoration may be a better fit.

                      • Agreed, rifts do feel weak. However, you do need touch of flame for resto x2 on the healing grenade. And you pretty much won't ever not be using that in pve unless you're doing something very specific with heat rises and icarus. So I'm not sure if that's a mark against it or not. But regardless you make a good point making that comparison. My top complaint is the animation is too long. I miss season 18 when you could slide cancel rift off an edge and proc classy resto.
