8,000 Hours in Destiny 2: Why I’m Finally Walking Away

Dear all, Unsure about the impact this will make, but I'm going in regardless. Hopefully you can help me be heard. I write this message with a heavy heart, as a player who has dedicated about 8,000 hours on Destiny 2 since its release. This game has been a cornerstone of my gaming experience, bringing me countless hours of fun, camaraderie, and thrilling gameplay. However, this letter is not a celebration. It is a farewell. The past few months have been an agonizing experience, encountering cheaters in nearly every match. It has drained the joy and passion I once felt for this game. The tools you have in place, like BattlEye, have proven ineffective at curbing the rampant cheating problem. The failure of your anti-cheat systems is glaringly obvious to the player base, yet it feels like nothing is being done to rectify it. As a long-time player, it pains me to see a game I’ve loved and supported so deeply become overrun by bad actors who ruin the experience for everyone else. Worse still, it seems Bungie is more focused on recruiting new players and maximizing revenue than addressing the issues plaguing those who have remained loyal for years. It feels like you’ve given up on those of us who’ve been here the longest. How can I justify continuing to play when it’s clear you don’t care about the integrity of your game or the experience of your players? Where is the care for player retention? For the community that has supported Destiny 2 with time, money, and passion? It’s hard not to feel abandoned when so little effort seems to be put into safeguarding the integrity of the game. So, it is with immense regret that I’ve come to the conclusion that I can no longer support Destiny 2. After all these years, I never thought I’d reach this point, but you have left me with no choice. I’ve uninstalled the game. I’m not a streamer, a content creator, or someone with a massive following. I am, however, one of the countless “nobody's” who are the heart and soul of your game. We don’t bring flashy headlines or sponsorships, but we do bring something far more important: our time and our unwavering passion. We’re the ones who grind for hours, support your expansions, and populate your servers day after day. Streamers and content creators may amplify your reach, but it’s players like me, dedicated and loyal, in the tens of thousands, who are the lifeblood of Destiny 2. Without us, there’s no community left to showcase. To my fellow Guardians: I hope for a better future for the game we’ve all loved. But for me, that future seems out of reach. Sincerely, a nobody who hopes his message will be heard Bel

  • Not a fan of all these anticlimactic goodbye threads cause 99 % of them are back online a week after and yea tbh who cares if someone with 8k or 20k hours leaves the hamster wheel.. I myself have as many or more hours and have just silently stopped playing for the most part for almost 2 years now. Log in every now and then, realize the game is a barren wasteland, noone plays anymore and log off again. The game is not profitable anymore, the few devs who are left working on the game are uninspired and have no passion for the game nor do they know what players want, the higher ups are money hungry idiots, the remaining playerbase is a toxic bunch of gatekeeping elitists, the loot situation is terrible (slot machine), netcode is ancient, performance got worse and worse, graphics got worse due to storage issues, story telling is cringe now, seasons are dull and copy paste, pvp is dead. So why tell us the obvious response as a player to all that? The game is done for. Everyone should stop playing. The fact that theres still so many players left tells me those people are way too attached to the addiction habit to realize all that sooner. Sad.
