Hi,
I'm a returning D2 player and I have some thoughts on my experience that I feel relates to D2's low engagement.
There is a ton of existing content I have yet to play. Most players I encounter are veterans who do not want to play with someone learning a dungeon or raid. New players are often berated or kicked off fireteams for making mistakes. This is very discouraging and ultimately hurts D2.
A very positive experience I had recently is two players talking me through Vesper's Host. They were awesome and I feel like I could help others newbies because of them. I think they should be rewarded for their efforts. Bungie should explore a system that exclusively rewards players for clearing content with inexperienced players.
Rewards should be exclusive to these players Commendations should also factor in. Recognize experienced players for being patient and enjoyable.
Bungie needs to find a way to bridge the gap between experienced players and newbies. Bottom lines it's not fun to be a new/returning player getting yelled at on a game for trying to learn the ropes.
I don't expect this to solve all your problems but I still have a reason to play D2 and I'd love to grow in the game and help others. And I doubt I'm alone.
Gonna go get smoked in Trials now. Enjoy the weekend Guardians!

Edited by Londo Mollari: 12/22/2024 2:27:16 AMI'm an admin for the top sherpa clan in D2. There's no reward bungie could offer to me or any of the other sherpas in this circle. The entire reward is helping friendly players who appreciate the help and meeting fun people. Any incentive bungie provided would be taken advantage of by people who do not feel this way. The one thing Bungie could do is actually communicate with us but they do not care. My advice to you is only join Fireteam Finder posts with positive tags. I always put tags like No Toxicity, Safe Space, Newbie Friendly and kick anyone who gets unpleasant. If there are none make your own and kick people who mouth off. I have sent you a friend request, my friends and I would love to take you through Garden of Salvation sometime! Edit: if anyone reading this wants Divinity or to learn Garden of Salvation but has been too nervous to send me a friend request.

I agree sherpas get the short end a lot of the time. The emblems are great for 10 sherpas but what if they evolved like the D2 night fall emblems used (if got bigger and higher scores over ur plays u got a better emblem and glow)? Same should go for pvp.

Edited by vxvxTITANxvxv: 12/22/2024 3:19:11 PMI think they just need to focus on fun factor. I’m literally falling asleep doing dungeons and raids these days because they’re so drawn out and boring. 🥱

That's a good experience, OP!

No game died because of the need for sherpas a d tutorials for most content ,I respect your effort to try to increase the player count but sherpas is totally the wrong route

As a sherpa it doesn't bother me one way or the other for extra loot. If anything, I would want more loot for sherpees which would then incentivize them to raid!

This is what made D1 a better overall gaming experience. The Raids were not so mechanic rigid to the point that people couldn’t make mistakes without fear of being kicked. A raid team could fall on the shoulders of 2-3 people still standing and still see victory. The days of Wrath of the Machine were actually FUN. A new person would usually get add clear duty in the beginning but also learn from watching and get rotated in to gain a better understanding. I don’t understand why they didn’t pile on the mechanics for the Master versions solely and let the standard be more like D1. It’s a damn shame they catered to the elite stacks for most of D2.

Bungie gamer since Halo 1 OG - old
Never expect anything as a Sherpa other than knowing I've helped teach Guardians how to do whatever content they are trying to complete. Never realized they had a Sherpa leaderboard up until a friend told me about raid report. Last I looked I was in the top 4000 Guardians for total Sherpas. Was just helping friends and or clan members, as well as fireteam finder or lfg complete quests for exotics, raids, and dungeons. As for commendations I'm almost at 7000, no idea why it was implemented as there is no real reward aside from Guardian rank. Imho most the vets are retiring, it's been a long 10 and a half years for me personally since D1 alpha. At least there are some good Sherpas left to help out those Guardians in need. Happy Holidays Guardian 🍻
