The Dawning is Statistically Stingy

The Dawning weapons this year are pretty decent. They're a good chase and feel worth going after. However, I've realized that it feels like you don't really get many. I want to bring this up. My resources are wildly imbalanced. Dawning Essence is far too scarce, and Dawning Spirit can be hard to accumulate if you don't use the one ship. This makes it feel like that one ship is mandatory. But let's look at Dawning Essence (I'll call DE from here on). DE is wildly less frequent than everything else. You can abuse checkpoint farming to get alot, but that's obviously not an intended method, so for the purpose of this argument, assume it doesn't exist. You get roughly about 10 to 15 from a pvp match, about 15 to 20 from a strike, and around 3 from a lost sector or public event. Assuming you're not hitting any of the updated strikes with drastically lengthened completion times, this comes up to around 1 to 2 DE a minute. It takes 10 DE to make one cookie, and the Gifts in Return feel around 1 in 10 chance per cookie. This means for every 50 to 100 minutes of active game time, you're likely to get one Gift in Return. We can grossly sum it up and say we average 1 Gift in return per hour of work. This of course isn't taking in to account the daily free gift or the bounties for extra DE, but those aren't really available for grinding. I don't know about you all, but an average of about 1 (or 2 if we're being generous) gift(s) per continuous hour spent in activities doesn't feel right. I would say about 6 per hour should be a better rate. If I were to make a suggestion, I would say either to drastically increase DE dropped by Crucible, Gambit, and Vanguard activities, reduce the DE needed for cookies to about 3 (2 with masterworked oven), or simply drastically enhance the drop rate of Gifts in Return to around 3 in 5 chance. Or maybe even perhaps a way to focus on the event in some way to increase the odds of Dawning loot? Though, to be honest, I feel Bungie is unlikely to increase our ability to make more cookies because of the repeatable bounties earning bright dust, and you know how stingy Bungie is about that kind of thing.

    1 cookie delivered should give 1 gift in return. Or give us a dedicated mode to farm like fotl. Make a snowball fight mode in pvp, or an onslaught like mode where we fight off grinches stealing our Christmas decorations, or a gauntlet like mode where we deliver presents to kids at the end. Doesn’t have to have a lot of effort put into it just something worthwhile. The dawning every year is just get a shattered throne final boss co for essence and a shuro chi cp for ingredients just to even make the event worthwhile because like you said the dawning is so stingy if you play regularly.

  • This is probably the worst event they have of the year Shattered thrown and Master lost sectors give around 20 to 23 GM's 13 to 15 Comp similar They are great at killing their own game and pushing people away from it which they have succeeded in

    Perk weighting is still going strong and makes it impossible to get anything decent. And 25 dawning spirit per focus is wayyy to much. Also, would be kinda cool if say the weapons actually dropped from ANYWHERE!!!

    • I can randomly play for 1.5 hours and have 80 essence, and I can randomly play for 2 hours and get 16 essence. It's a stupid currency and way too rare.

      I speed-ran the entire Dawning Event in under 2 minutes - No Skips Challenge Mode. Login Select Toon Select Tower Land in Tower Sprint to Tess Everis Buy Dawning Dragon Set for 6,000 Bright Dust Finish I don’t know what all these extra steps are that people are complaining about. Is there more to Dawning than the sweetest armor loot?

      • Something I didn’t think about till now is: why aren’t a gift in return’s guaranteed? Like it’s possible you don’t have a gift for someone but 2-3 times in a row? Crazy. It’s only 1 piece of getting a weapon Settling for that 2/5 roll 👍🏼

        • They are killing their game. They don’t care. Why should we? I’ve been finally playing Helldivers 2. A lot of fun and the developers seem to actually care about the player base. It’s refreshing.

          • Dawning Essence drops needs to be doubled and Dawning Spirit needs to be removed entirely. It should cost 1 gift and 25,000 glimmer to roll weapons.

Every PE I do I get 5 regardless if it's heroic or not. Been skipping the glimmer drill one because everyone makes it heroic.

            • DE is an absolutely horrible bottle neck… no need to have 2 currencies spirit would have been enough to encourage us to play….

              Yeah they don't know how to utilize the things they put in the game or incentivize "normal play". They could have easily pushed people toward strikes and Crucible through carrots but instead they're doing nothing - while knowing, just like everyone els, that people will take the path of least resistance instead. So for future - otherwise identical events, since we know that theyre not going to change the actual gameplay; * Get rid of boons and replace it with a buff that always is active when you're in a playlist * Allow enemies to randomely drop DE in playlists (obviously more from PvP than PvE enemies to balance it out) * Drastically increase DE drops at the end of lenghty activities, such as exotic missions, dungeons and raids. I mean, the system is already in place but it's just a slap to the face to get 2 DE from an exotic mission. * Increase the Gift of Return rate. Now, I see a lot of people claim that it's a 1:10 ratio but after getting around 150 Gifts in return - on my path to the emblems - I would argue that it's more like 1:5, which also is too much. And yes, I put on a podcast in the background and just farmed the same thing over and over. It was extremely boring and I would have much rather played something els but everything els wasnt good enough with the silly return rates we had to deal with and I really wanted all three emblems.

            • Farmed the last 2 days of EDZ daily lost sectors with randoms, esp Excavation, which is under a 1 minute run. It takes longer to load in and out than it does to complete it. No other lost sectors are really worth it. The Quarry is back next Monday at reset, so can farm that until the event is gone the next day 😉

              • Wait until a legendary lost sector is off of the pale heart and you can complete most of them in 2-3 mins. This gives 20 essence of dawning. I have farmed 1000's this way and loaded up on exotic engrams too. Sadly the weapons that drop while doing them are garbage.

              • 3 from a lost sector? Just run the 2030 lost sector , most take 3 to 4 mins on your own and get about 17 - 19 each run. Dawning spirit is the stuff I need!
