Merry Christmas, y'all! Hope y'all enjoy this lil piece of Christmas themed Drifteris fan lore and have a wonderful holiday season! :)
"Hey, Eris! Glad you had the time to pop on down here."
"Yes, of course," Eris replied, surprised to find the Drifter standing at the open Iron gates that sat outside the area he used to house Gambit, instead of at his usual area, leaning against the orange railing in front of the Bank. "You requested my presence, which is quiet unusual of you to do during the set times for your Gambit matches. I assume it must be important, whatever it is you wished to see me for."
"Oh it is," he grinned mischievously. "But, uh, gotta ask real quick. What's that plant up there?" He pointed up above them, where a leafy plant with little red berries hung by a red velvet string.
"That is a bough of mistletoe. Strang that Eva Levante would hang it there. Perhaps you have an admirer." She replied, eyeing the Drifter.
"Hah, uh... yeah. I dunno, Moondust. I don't get the feelin' that's what this is."
"Oh? And what makes you so sure?" She asked, fighting hard against the urge to shoot him a teasing smile.
"Call it a hunch. But hey!" He started swiftly before Eris could say anything else. "Maybe..."
He slid closer to her, standing directly under the mistletoe and grabbing her hand.
"We should put it to good use?" He smiled coyly, attempting to allure her enough that she would come closer.
"Or perhaps we should not." She answered, giving him a single solitary chuckle and snatching her hand free.
"What? Eris!" He called out as she began to walk away.
"I have a 'hunch' that you are not being honest with me." She replied simply. "So, in that case, I will leave."
"Alright, alright!" He sighed. "I put the mistletoe up there, not Eva."
"Yes?" Eris pressed.
"Yeah..." he ran a hand through his hair.
Eris smiled a very small, almost unnoticeable smile and stepped closer. The Drifter's eyes shot up to her own, watching her intently. She took another step closer, until the toes of their boots were touching.
"I admire honesty, Germaine. Not lies, or any attempts to save face. I trust that you will bear that in mind during future interactions."
"Yeah... yeah, I will." He replied, eyes still locked on her own.
"Good." She half closed her eyes and leaned in a little closer. "I also trust you understand the significance of the mistletoe?"
The Drifter gave her a short laugh in response before circling an arm around her waist and pulling them underneath the red berried plant.
Only the tips of their noses touched at first, and they both smiled at one another for a second before leaning in and filling the space between them.
They kissed long a slow before Eris pulled away, smiling. The Drifter smiled back at her, before taking his chance to swoop in with another kiss, which was interrupted midway by laughter and a firm push from Eris against the chest.
"Happy Dawning, Germaine." She called, walking away.
"Hey, hold up!" The Drifter ran over and grabbed her wrist, stopping her mid-step and causing them to collide.
"Sorry," he murmured, noting how very close they stood, and the way she didn't even back away from him. "I just wanted to ask if you'd like to come over to the Derelict tonight. I'll cook us up a little dinner to keep us warm if you do."
"Of course." Eris agreed. "I would greatly enjoy that."
"Yeah? Good, I'll see you tonight then," he murmured happily, eyes not quiet meeting her own as he leaned closer to her.
Eris put her hand over his lips before their mouths could touch, smiling in a strange teasing way.
"I believe you have forgotten something," she said.
"What?" He asked, confused.
The Drifter followed Eris's gaze behind him, noticing the hung up mistletoe. He smiled slyly at Eris, taking several confident steps backward before spinning around and reaching up to grab the plant from the string it hung from. He returned to Eris a moment later, holding the plant above their heads in one hand, and wrapping the other around her waist, pulling them together.
"That work?" He smiled.
"Quiet so," Eris replied, leaning closer and tiling her head to the side, her eyelids sinking.
"Heh..." he leaned into her, kissing her softly and relishing every second their lips touched.
"Stop, stop," Eris laughed, gently pushing the Drifter away. "We may be spotted it we aren't careful, and I am sure we both have plenty of work that needs to be done before we meet tonight."
He sighed. "Yeah, your right... I'm probably already late for my next Gambit match."
"And I should be going myself." Eris began pulling away.
"I'll see you tonight though," the Drifter smiled, winking as he held up the twig of mistletoe.
Eris laughed and shook her head as she walked off, transporting away in a shower of green.
The Drifter chuckled to himself, twirling the branch between his thumb and index finger. He grinned and sauntered off to start the next round of Gambit.
