Are weapon perks random?

My understanding is weapon drop perks are random where a one perk has the same chance of dropping as any other, or at least that's how I think it should work. That is not what I've seen especially lately. I had another post complaining about how painful and frustrating weapon farm is now without crafting. I prefer crafting but OK with farming if each perk has the same chance of dropping. I've been farming chroma rush, gridskipper, nox smg, dawning weapons and amazed at the number of weapons I receive with a few of the same perks, none of which are what I want. I haven't farmed this weekend but did all last week. I forget what weapon kept dropping with to the pain, heating up, desperate measures. It took 3 full 10 hr days of farming Chroma rush to get kinetic tremors and only 1 subsistence yet I received an over abundance of to the pain. Then mostly got extended barrel/extended mag and hardly any arrowhead break/accurized rounds. I've posted this before questioning why I only want that or the other perks are good. I appreciate the comment and looked further into what I've been deleting. However, they may be good perks but I'm mostly frustrated with getting an over abundance of some perks. So my question is, are weapon drop traits/perks random or is there some level of acceptable weighting to avoid what crafting ends up with some perks mostly being used?

  • Just like any other pull the lever to win scenario.. There will be weighting involved. Regardless if bungie wants to admit or not… The “god “rolls” are known and are weighted in order to keep player “pulling” the lever.

Despite the RNG issue - Bungie still maintain perks themselves are weighted the same and always have maintained that stance. With the original issue - it was both beneficial to some weapons but also detrimental to others, it took a perfect storm of 4-5+ things to trigger the investigation and it still resulted in the 'we checked weighting' reply that once they got the evidence that showed weighting (like this) it triggered them involving more senior engineers for it. Given the length of time the problem persisted for (one of the core systems involved was from launch Destiny 2) - there is a decent chance that there will still be things that may be causing issues with individual traits/weapons/vendors etc because different players can have things influence RNG differently based on the source (plug/socket system mentioned in the write up below) They did a write up of the issue here. Bungie are still looking into RNG generation issues as seen known issues and in forum replies to RNG based threads such as this one TLDR; decent chance there are still deeper rooted issues that weren't resolved, or were possibly missed/bandaided while they tried to quickly push out this fix from before.
