After reading this article, I TRUELY believe Bungie will not make it halfway through 2025. As of right now, approximately 850 people currently work at Bungie (down from 1,600 one year ago). Several teams have already been transitioned into key roles within PlayStation Studios (most likely the people who were laid off or resigned) and a good chunk of Bungie’s team are currently working on Marathon. So in reality, to be fair, only a short handful of people (maybe a few hundred) are still currently working with Destiny. Meanwhile, Bungie are still dealing with a “leadership reshuffle”. Just in the last few months, Ondraus Jenkins, Bungie’s Chief Strategy Officer resigned, and Jonny Ebbert, Bungie’s Chief Creative Officer, also resigned. Their Chief Technology Officer and Chief Operating Officer, also resigned. 4 MAJOR EXECUTIVE ROLES are now vacant, with no signs of someone filling in. This is on top of the 800+ other roles that are still in need of employment. From speculation, this is due to the hostile work environment, being overworked, and under paid. Now you’re asking yourselves, who the hell are the two people I just mentioned. That’s a great question because I never heard of them either. They obviously played a huge role in the franchise, and never went public. Smart on them because of how much scrutiny devs and executives received in the past on Destiny. They wanted no part of it. Another huge issue is the amount of Lawsuits Bungie is currently facing and the millions of dollars they owe to their ex employees. The icing on the cake is Destiny has the LOWEST player count since launch. Approximately 30k active players across all platforms. Now to be fair, it was Christmas with the new year approaching. People are not playing. But again, when has it gotten so bad to where I and many others, can’t even find a raid or dungeon to play with others. My entire friend’s list is full of non active players. With all of this in perspective, I do believe Destiny will be done in 2025 along with Bungie or another company will completely take over Destiny and Bungie still burns down. I honestly can’t see this game go on another 12 months of bugs, stale content, and overall a boring experience. All of this talk with Apollo and the future for years to come with updates is a catch and grab for people to continue playing. It’s just not gonna happen unless they obtain more manpower, continue to reassign the higher positions, and most importantly, fire the higher ups who are down right killing this game. Bungie has never went public about this article and they probably never will. I love this game. I would hate to see it continue like this.
