So…does anyone still have hope for the future of this game?

Yes

No

I’m going to be honest here, I don’t know. While the non linear story model is interesting and the free updates are a nice thing to. I don’t know what to think of the future of this game, a part of me wants it to continue and reach its full potential but as I see the game now it’s quite literally falling apart. While I will still maybe have some hope but no matter what happens I will always be grateful for this game and what it has achieved. It managed to last 10 years, that is no easy achievement so maybe frontiers can bring hope to us but I won’t say “we are back” so blindly

Absolutely not. No Future, as the Pistols growled. Still playing a few hours here and there though. It's cool but going forward long term. I doubt it

If the game had a future then it would be nothing but a miracle

    • Hard to say. I've put over 10 years of my life into destiny. Longer than literally any other game. I love it, but with the way things are going..

      • Everything I've read, heard, & seen, which is a lot, suggests from frontiers onwards content will be much lighter. Bungie will never openly say this, but from leaks, apparent destiny staff numbers, how the restructuring has been done, the planned content loop etc it looks very lightweight & will struggle to hold a player base daily or even weekly, outside the 2 dlc drops which are apparently what was gonna be used as next years episodes, now there's no seasonal story just a season pass track & activity, lasting 6 months each. They could pick up the pace in future but this model is in place until 2027. The elephant in the room is marathon, strong sources suggest is marathon isn't Fortnite 2.0 then bungie are in deep trouble & may even disappear, this obviously would end destiny. There's also an expected staff exodus once the final payments from Sony are processed in the middle of 2026. If marathon flops, it's over, if marathon bangs they could potentially go balls deep into that & drop destiny. The current playerbase wouldnt make destiny profitable & given the steady decline & burned bridges plus the current -blam!- state of the game (bugs & performance) I doubt they'll get any players back. We'll still get content, just less, who knows for how long.

        • We've been in this position before. We will be in this position again. The game will stand. I say that not out of hope, but out of basic pattern recognition.

            • No. Not in the current hands of Bungie. I'm not very interested at all in frontiers... Less story, less care, less attention. I mean, they are actively taking dev- time for Destiny ( their franchise on life support) to prop up another title that has never earned them a penny. Marathon has been an unnecessary albatross around Destiny player's neck for YEARS now. Is Bungie embarrassed by destiny? They've taken it's success for granted now for YEARS! They are always taking, cutting, less is more. This new direction is out of neccesity-- it's not good for the game. It's not good news for us.

I do have hope but it’s realistic expectations for a game that’s 7 years old and a franchise that’s a decade old. Last night I decided I wanted the last 2 comp weapons (I stopped playing a while ago) so I played 7 matches to get placement. I did ok and wound up with a closing time/lonewolf roll on the SG and a Destabilizing Rounds/Repulcer Brace roll on the 720 AR. That felt gratifying and still leaves the carrot on the stick for me to chase a killclip/dynamic sway roll on the AR. They need to make the experience better, simply by adding great weapons to chase. This logic needs to be applied to all activities in the game. With that said I don’t expect them to reinvent the wheel with a 7 year old game. I play D2 for the unmatched gunplay so give me great guns to chase and old strikes, gambit it PVP won’t seem like a slog and waste of time. Great weapons that are accessible to everyone, a huge vault to collect the crap and fix the damn bugs. I’ll play until I’m in a pine box if they can achieve those 3 things.

            • Bungie listened to the wrong people and are now paying the price. Greed has clouded their judgement. Strange how the only part of the game that gets regularly updated is Eververse. The seasonal model since forsaken was the beginning of the end for D2. Changes in difficulty, overly mechanical new raid and dungeon that affects the replay ability. No new real updates to core playlists. PvP is in the worst state it's ever been in. The amount of bugs in the game. It's very apparent that bungie is done with this game. I hope they hand it over to another studio and it gets sorted. Also, keep woke politics out of the game ffs. No one wants to see that.

              • I think it will be a long time before they get this game in order that being said D2 isn't shutting down any time soon in my opinion I would guess that the game needs to be updated before releasing any new content. I would be fine if they worked on the story a little more but keep updating D2 just without the story. We don't need content all the time.

              • Someone please explain to me this game’s “full potential”. I hear this bandied about a lot but NOBODY ever says what that is (or even what they think it is). The gist I get from most complaints is a highly irrational expectation for an amount of content that 2000 devs couldn’t produce.

Will it be "dead" dead? No, most likely not. If anything, it will be kept on life support like D1 is. But it most certainly has run its course and I don't expect anything substantial to be done with it. I haven't bought anything since Forsaken (no seasons, no expansions, especially since all of them were free or 0.69$ at some point, lol.) and people tend to forget that Forsaken was basically done by other studios, so the only good thing that came to the game wasn't even done by Bungie. So if Sony isn't willing to lend studios to Bungie again, then no, there most definitely isn't a future for Destiny. It will not be dead, but it doesn't really have a future either. Marathon will be released in a way oversaturated market and will fizzle out in a matter of months. Afterwards, it's either back to Destiny, or Sony pulls the plug on Bungie altogether.

So far yes. However, that will depend on how Frontiers does. The game is scheduled for some larger changes when that launches. New story style- more choose your own adventure style. Armor- updated armor and new way to work/ build-craft and use stats. Will have to see how those updates go. Probably depends on how Marathon does. If that doesn’t do well, that could affect the talent and resources that remain on Destiny 2.

                  • If it's good it's good. If it's not, oh well. 2e shouldn't speculate on something we can't control, instead simply let bungie show us if there's a reason to play. There's really nothing more to it. Play the content you like, take a break and repeate till the cycle breaks.

                  • Sadly everthing seems to be turning negativly. Negative bungie stuff Negative player stuff I hope this game makes it as I like it alot but to be honest, does not look to promising right now. Game needs some positivity added to it.

Gun play is dead, too many powers and over used, too much bull sh*t, saying we get to choose how we play, when at the same time forcing us to play as they dictate season after season .. My right arm is worn out lifting it to stifle the yawns from boredom. Deliberate tactic of increasing difficulty and crazy mechanics to all end game encourages the paid carry companies, would not be surprised to find Bungie own/fund the carry companies tbh ...

                    • Bungie -blam!- this community hard over the years. There's a reason they dont engage on these forums. Marathon will be ok for the first couple of months and then completely fail. Sony will pull the plug and finally take over bungie. They'll take the little talent they have and absorb them then shut the studio down. bungie management should've been -blam!- canned a long time ago.
