Not all of us are Elite and/or Pro players

Firstly, let me say, that I have loved Destiny 2 since I was gifted a copy of Forsaken. Have really enjoyed the graphics, scenery and music and of course, the story. However, I am an older player who was never in to pvp, pve games prior to being gifted that Forsaken. I am not really interested in becoming an Elite player such a Esoterickk, Kackis, and numerous others. I just love playing. But, I did really enjoy being able to feel accomplished while playing. Such as , finishing the weekly challenges, being able to finish and receive the seasonal seals, etc. Unfortunately, I can no longer do that. Everything is being geared to the Elite, right down to the weekly challenges. It is all legend this, master that and grand master everything else. The story line has become more legend or higher to get done. I am not liking this at all. What happened to us lesser players being able to play. The Elite have raids, dungeons, legend/master/grand master stuff, Trials of Osiris, etc. You would have thought the storyline and the weekly challenges could have been left for ppl like me to be able to play and feel that same accomplishment of the gameplay. Not EVERYTHING should be that HARD. I love Destiny 2 so much, I actually spent the money on the deluxe edition for the game and I wanted the Tower. However, I have found myself not enjoying the game as much, playing the game much less (which I was playing everyday so many hours) and wishing that I had NOT spent that money that I really couldn't afford.

  • What are you talking about? PvE in Destiny is barely a challenge. And I’m not claiming to be some PvE god! But soloing? Sure, that’s where it gets spicy. In a fireteam of three, though? You might as well let your abilities and auto-targeting weapons handle the work. Between room-clearing explosions and tracking projectiles, the game practically plays itself. So again, what are you talking about? The endless whining about how “hard” this game is feels like people allergic to putting in effort. It’s like saying we should turn basketball into patty-cake because Timmy can’t dribble. Is that really the bar now? The problem isn’t difficulty—it’s the lack of engaging mechanics. Remember the Shield Brothers strike? You actually had to think—plan how to bring those bosses together to drop their shields. Now? Every encounter boils down to "stand here, grab buff, shoot shield." Rinse and repeat. It’s not a challenge; it’s a checklist. And catering to casuals? That’s a barrel without a floor. Bungie keeps trying to please everyone, and in doing so, they’re driving everyone away. It has to be the gameplay that keeps us coming back—not some shiny new subclass, game-breaking weapon, or flavor-of-the-week ability. But that’s what the weekend warriors need: quick fixes, low effort, and high reward. Bungie needs to decide who this game is for because right now, the middle-ground policies are killing it. It’s not for the casual mentality of “low effort, but I want it all.” That mindset ruins the game for players who actually want to earn their progress. And don’t even get me started on PvP. You cry about getting stomped in PvP but want PvP acolytes to roll over for you like PvE NPCs. It’s ridiculous. If you want everything handed to you, fine—but don’t expect the rest of us to stick around for a game designed to reward mediocrity. Destiny thrives on challenge, mastery, and growth—not participation trophies.

    • Here’s an example of why I think some people find the game harder than it is: I started an expert NF, joined the LFG, the other 2 were GR7 and 6, at the power cap, but no optimized stats, not taking advantage of the active surges, not using any champions gear, no optimized build. If you made it that far in the game (level, rank), I swear you are just one 20’ YT build video away from feeling a lot more powerful and finding the game a lot easier.

Agreed! And they wonder why player numbers keep dropping like flies Act 3 release only had 36k players on Steam and right on the next day it dropped to an all-time low of 9.9k. Well, guess what... no live game is sustainable only with the hardcore players.

              • Yep. They have disconnected with the regular players. Now, all they have are the "elite" that play 1 day and go stream another game.

                  • Some of these comments are outright ignorant and narcissistic. Pull your heads in, everybody has a differnet skill level, and everybody has different levels of enjoyment from the various content. Some people enjoy running around in patrol completing bounties, some people enjoy ticking boxes, some people enjoy solo dungeons. The game somewhat caters to everybody, except where the skill floor keeps raising, instead of the ceiling being raised. Campaigns, storylines, and weekly tick-boxes should be accessible to everbody.

                    • They started making changes for the top players/streamers, thinking that people play this game because of them. Wrong, streamers play this game because people do. Nobody is playing, all these streamers have jumped ship to other games even after getting what they wanted with harder content, no crafting, etc.

                    • Here’s the problem you have players that love to argue from THEIR perspective, instead of trying to get more people they would rather exclude. Sure one could “watch a video” but why? Why not have a scaled down mode that would help players understand mechanics.

Bungie has applied this "all or nothing" concept to everything. Titles, guardian ranks, weeklies, the list goes on. You can basically play this game for 10 hours per day, complete 99 % of it and have nothing to show for it - because unless you finish that remaining 1 % - or in some cases only that 1 % - you'll get nothing. Outcome, everything els becomes pointless. Bungie could have set up so many goals for the casual crowd and solo player if they just ditched their insane concept and didnt cater to the "content creator clique". A bunch of the content creators don't even play enough to be at 2010 yet - they just pull people from their follower lists to knock out the latest drop so that they can make a video about it.

                        • I am not an elite/pro. Iam just patient and I make an effort to learn things and try things out. I have solo'ed GotD, not flawlessly, mind you. But I am _very_ aware that I am at home with chronic illness, and have time on my hands. This is not the case for most people. I do, however, agree so much with how Bungie is "gatekeeping" info, which makes everything so much harder for especially New Lights. As someone who played WoW for 9 years, can you imagine if they stopped giving you info on how long an ability lasts? Forcing you to use a 3.rd party website to see the info you need to know, to make a build work? Just a quick example of how hard they're making things, and how socially acceptable it is, that this game works this way. They are like Gucci; You _can_ get cheaper stuff, but it's -blam!-, and no one cares. I have been playing D2 for 8 years (had some breaks here and there) and I am sick of seeing Bungie shut down all the suggestions and pleads, and just shitting on our hope and directions on how to improve the game, and turn around and just FILL the Eververse Store instead. It is getting _rediculous_. (I am a pretty die-hard D2-player - not entirely by choice, I have a hard time retaining info due to chronic illness, so me being angry at them and considering quitting, is a pretty big thing for me.. 😅) Bungie needs to wake up and show us that they appreciate the good will we are giving them, and give back to their player-base, _NOT_ in the form of "letting us" pay real money, and _NOT_ by giving out LESS content, and having the content be FULL of bugs. Not by giving out "all catalysts and quests immediately" and then putting a Tonic behind having us be forced to do an EXOTIC MISSION to unlock them, and only dropping one material per run. It's broken our trust, tenfold. I couldn't even make Tonics until mid December. Like, dudes.. Come on 🙄

As an "Elite" player with a lot of accomplishments behind my belt, I agree. Basic strikes should not be so difficult. Campaign Missions shouldn't be so annoying for the sake of it (Just did Iconoclasm for my Titan & the Witness fight can cool it with the Grim & Strand Psions my god). I enjoyed being able to casually enjoy the casual playlists. We don't have that anymore. And it really limits build creativity & diversity and most of all...Viability... Everything since Final Shape has been at -5 Pantheon difficulty since... and it sucks. You take way too much damage and weapons tuning has been horrible lately, so you're punished for missing shots or enemy design (reduced body shot damage), and weapon design where certain weapons aren't as stable as others... I'm absolutely sick of strikes, exotic missions, and certain pieces of seasonal content being set at the difficulty they are right now. It makes the strike playlist completely untouchable (It's hardly relevant so why is it that difficult) & other activities worse to run than they were before. Edit: looking forward to the difficulty scaling coming in Frontiers...It is supposedly going to allow us to control the difficulty of the content we wanna approach.

I honestly don't get the POV that this game is some insanely hard elites only game when realistically speaking you only need to be passingly competent to get by.

                            • The difficulty has defo increased. Best thing I would suggest is craft a good build with high stats in resilience, recovery and then work on how you are going to survive. A solar weapon that has heal clip and incandescent will go a long way and heal you up on kills.

                            • The issue here is that Bungie really wants this game to be all about spamming abilities, they calculate what damage we can deal with the right build and make the content around that. This way makes playing this game "your way" nearly impossible. I honestly don't know why they want us all to use abilities pretty much only. Makes chasing for weapons quite pointless.

                              • I also agree with a lot of things Kaia Faven said about the direction of this game. I also am an older player 60ish and have been in the game since day 1. IMO, if this game is to survive, they need to find a way to bridge the different skill levels and make it worth everyone's time. The game has become unbelievably grindy, and more times than not, for nothing worthwhile. I believe the game took a turn for the worst when they turned strikes into speed runs, might be fun for the upper tier players, but not so much for me. I wish Bungie would stop "Fluffing" content (going from one side of the room to the other, then back) listening to some stupid storyline that I don't care about so they can add more steps to ths quest. I don't care about the story, at all. I have almost 1000 pieces of lore and have yet to read one of them. I think this game is in real trouble of going dark if they don't find a happy balance between enjoyable vs grindy content. I also agree that Bungie appears to be making content a little over the casual players head, which helps higher tier players with content for their streaming gigs, which I think, Bungie feels it needs to keep the game out there because the DLC's havent been up to snuff and for whatever reason the bugs don't get fixed. My 2 cents, anyway
