Oryx coming back again is just exhausting at this point. We killed him in the world, on his throne world, and even prevented him from being resurrected in a dungeon. And yet he comes back? Took a page out of the Star Wars playbook I see.
-
With lucient Hive, I would've thought if Savathûn could put a leash on Oryx, MAYBE we could revive him. I also would've brought him back instead of -blam!- Calus in Lightfall. Seriously, calus was just bad... I guess he was good for writing. Did we ever kill the real Calus? I still hated him.
-
Can't wait to hear Aztecross do his best to be hyped about it.
-
They’re too busy working on the next lover/family drama to worry about original ideas.

...You're expecting new content from a company that has stated that creating content is hard. Good luck with that.

Take a Joy! - old
Because it is easier to add old 💩 into the game and leech of the feelings people who barely play but play 1 hour per season for "nostalgic feelzz" and tell new people that it is new content. Its a business... whats new Lets just hope this these episodes are the last of this annoying revised content... Maybe it will be different when frontiers starts -
Nah man. Orxy is one of the only few characters I think should be a main point in a season. Why cant he come back as a spirit just like Riven? After all it’s his throne world. I would rather see Xivu running with the power of the taken and the third echo and use it as a launch pad to battle her past the season into frontiers. Making her the God of War, Taken Queen and Echo bearer. That’s a big bad we need in Destiny. We have no idea who the big bad is this season so all these negative story narrative posts just need to chill until we play it. Not to say I won’t call out a bad story if it is one.

Imagine how they feel about guardians.

Edited by AmethystRhino: 1/30/2025 9:29:39 AMBecause d2 is the ultimate bait and switch scam. Remember the Destiny reveal in 20 13 ? Bungie claimed that we would embark on a 10 year journey and our weapons , supers abilities would grow more powerful along the way. This was what many of us signed up for. Fast track to 2015 and 1/2 we learn d2 is coming out and despite everything they told us d2 was actually a reboot of Original Destiny (admitted by then game director Luke Smith) and now we all know it was actually a second revenue stream so they could more funnel more funds for all the other games they were working on including marathon and gummy bears. Very little of Destiny resources with back into destiny which is why the game suffers so much and why eververse is such a major part of d2 and is the true focus for new content. Where’s all the new content they said we were going to love back in zRise of Iron in D1 when they were hyping up d2? Nothing new same weapons same locations same enemies oh but all the nerfs yeah that’s new.
-
Because the krill/hive got screwed over just like the eliksni, and eramis getting the echo could be seen as foreshadowing the bearer in heresy.
-
Why not have someone new, someone take up the mantel of Taken King and grab that echo? Some random Acolyte who ascends with double power? That would be awesome but as someone always says… “Now that’s just lazy writing…”
-
It's what happens when a studio keeps amputating roles because they didn't meet earnings. Used to be an expression in comic books, "no one stays dead except Bucky, Jason Todd, and Uncle Ben" because their deaths are the character reasons for certain superheroes but nowadays even that has been thrown out. Yeah, I'm not pumped that a character I beat in D1, beat again multiple times in D2 solely for weapons, and completed a storyline to keep them from coming back, is coming back. Why not just have the Speaker or Brother Vance return and have something stupid like 200 more tonics to find, lol.
-
Our enemies probably think the same thing about us.
-
After that dungeon in season of the deep, we should have checked him out. Maybe take off his head for good measure. Clone Commando rule 17: "Always make sure they're dead."
-
Easy, it's called bad writing
-
Oryx? Should be called Xerox.

Edited by Coal: 1/29/2025 7:17:05 PMI hate resurrection tropes in media and video games. It’s so exhausting. It’s the same -blam!- over and over again, and it opens up Pandora’s box - setting the precedent that any character can be resurrected at any time. Bungie is especially bad with this because they see their game is dying so they smash the “Break glass in case of emergency” box with some dead character that we all loved inside. Just because we loved them doesn’t mean we want them back! Because most of us enjoy the story and also want the story to make sense and not grow into some ultra-convoluted mess. How many times have we killed Taniks?
-
Cause shadows of Mordor did it lol it’s just for content purposes like a twist but like not since we see it coming
-
My opinion will depend entirely on the "In some form" part. If Oryx coming back is just a consequence of the Echo interacting with the Dreadnaught and is a temporary matter resolved by the end of the season, with Xivu and/or Savathun interacting with him as a means to further them, I won't have an issue. If Oryx is the only Hive antagonist to take part in this Episode with the Dread and Winnower being the other players, then this will feel like a massive waste. If Oryx is back past this Episode, it'll be one hell of a spit in the face to Xivu as an antagonist.
-
Because then they’d have to make new ones and it’s a lot cheaper when the game can just be a dumping ground for symptomatic repetition.
-
You're missing the part where we took his soul and made a gun... he was never dead
-
He kinda comes back. He's a bit translucent in his depiction and the thing the echo resurrected seems to be the ship, not oryx. It's likely that oryx isn't back, but his essence lingers over us while we're in the dreadnought. We should wait and see what happens with the story before deciding what the story will be and being either excited or upset. It's fun the theory craft, it's not fun when you crap on your own outlook.
-
It interferes with recycling content

Stopped playing other games to copy/buy their enemies' routines. Streamers didn't ask for it. Other unknown reasons. All the above.

This games lore is worse than a Telenovela. Fighting families constant resurrections and your people's Hopium lets you look at Byf like he could make sense of the ludicrous bs!

I don’t really view this in the same way as like Taniks. Taniks was brought back but was the same character every time. Oryx coming back in this way - we don’t really know what his plot lines are going to be yet. He’s back through the power of an echo but being revived like this is directly counter to the sword logic he believed in so heavily. I also don’t really count the King’s Fall raid version as a separate version - we don’t actually kill him in the Regicide mission in the KF campaign. He retreats. And plus in GotD it’s more the threat of him being revived than him being revived itself
