After agreeing with a comment on a post talking about game difficulty, I received this delightful message from a fellow player.
The legendary player; (name removed as per forum rules) insert "tough guy name" here, with 3 maxed characters, multiple titles, raid & dungeon clears sent me this:
"Not sure why y'all think they should cater to the worst players ...instead of you trying to be better like everyone else did
Game not hard but most of you don't even try and cry for hand out or ways to get everything solo no mic
There's other game for you"
I believe they maybe younger than an adult.
I replied;
"Thanks for that encouraging message.
I'm sure your massive ego is tied up in how you play this game & you find no fulfilment in any other aspect of your life.
But people like me - who have been playing this game since release - play to have fun, relax, enjoy a moderate challenge.
We don't enjoy a stressful, hardcore playing environment designed for no-life, try-hards like yourself.
Go play Dark Souls if you want a legendarily hard game."
Say what you will about the state of difficulty in the game, personally I would remove all modifiers save for the elemental surges.
But to send me a private message telling me to bugger off & go play an easier game is a bit cheeky.
The toxicity in this community - from what I can see - is coming from a section of the top 5% of players. The elitist players, who is the only section players Bungie is listening to.
That is all.

I’d argue casuals have equally ruined this game. We’ll get more RONs than Salvation’s Edge raids because of everyone crying because they can’t compute how to pick up shapes and stand on a plate. It goes both ways.
-
Why don’t they just release a D2: Extreme Hardcore Sweaty Tryhards Edition where they get no exotic weapons and only get blue drops capped at 390 Power Level with all content being a minimum 3000 power level? That oughta shut them up.
-
Most of us have jobs and can't play all day.
-
I mean he's right there isn't anything difficult left in the game outside of 48 hour contest because people complained. I don't understand how people feel this games difficult in any sense.
-
Edited by LikwiD_SmOkE22: 1/29/2025 11:33:11 PMAnd the same goes for the toxic casual make the game super easy crybabies. Yall both are just two sides of the same coin. The casual crybabies don't even try the content before complaining and the super elitists want everything impossible to obtain. I'll let you in on a little secret. You don't need to be a God tier professional gamer to complete 100% of this games content.
-
Edited by SpunChii: 2/1/2025 10:50:16 PMWait, who is the toxic one here ? He told you to get better at the game rather then just ask for things for free, and you called him a no-lifer for actually playing the harder content. To me it sounds like you are the toxic one here.

There's so many youtube videos and strategy and skill training videos. There's no reason aside from laziness to be good enough at the game for people to not feel the need to msg you. Like I did with sports and music... I practice and plan how I can succeed at this game. If you are just doing things with rando lfg and go in blind and with no planning.. that's on you. Don't waste people's time.. raids are long enough as is. Same with trials or whatever. Watch Rick Kakis a bu ch of times.... learn the encounters and go in not asking g to be completely carried and mess up. There is Zero obligations in lfg to be nice or welcoming to people... that's the sad hard truth.. so instead of making this type of post complaining... watch videos. Learn the game... Don't give people a reason to be mean. It's inevitable with gaming online.

Bit cope believing that all they listen to is elitists but the rest is pretty much ye

Edited by SenXXII: 1/31/2025 7:03:30 PMI see the coping of people who think it's all about showing off and looking better than everyone else when it's not even close to that. Destiny is a hobby and a highly fun game to play with a variety of builds. To assume that someone has nothing going on with their life because they're good at a game is the definition of coping because you think that most "elites" even THINK about the players beneath them and not the tasks they want to do. Unless someone specifically shows it, most high end players aren't "elitists", they WANT you in endgame. No one plays this game to specifically to show off. They're just playing the game how it's designed to be played. A miniscule amount of people actually act like this. Most of us want players to learn and come join us and do more of the content. We want people to use Fireteam finder and have a culture that has a rich list of people who are raid ready in it. Filled with people who played the game like everyone else did to be raid ready. And if you don't want to put in the time (which you probably did ANYWAY because seasonal weapons are good nowadays) then you don't get the rewards. I don't understand the mentality to see players who get high end content done and then NOT follow what they're doing because those same hardcore players have been in your shoes. But instead of complaining, they looked for like-minded individuals in LFG. And when they started and got over their anxiety or whatever personal thing that was stopping them, they realized it's not that difficult. Many people blow raiding out of proportion. They don't see knowledge as something valuable. So there aren't any practice parties like there are in FFXIV. This is content you LEARN. That's the purpose of it. Anyone could do it if they just try. And I don't believe people's anecdotal bad Fireteams. Of course you're going to find bad apples, but I still don't understand why people who are solo or say endgame is too hard just doesn't get together with the same people. I don't understand why everyone is looking to have the "elites" be the one to pick them up instead of people who are in the same situation as them. I don't understand why they don't practice. Ever since Garden of Salvation, I have been doing this with my static team for years. Learning as we go. Laughing and having fun. I don't get why people don't do this. I say this while being someone who worked full time at a nursing home BTW We got a lot of stuff done. Said we were never going to get Rivensbane. We got Rivensbane. Said we were never going to do a day 1. We have 2 under our belts. Hardest of the hard stuff and we got it done. I had fun with them. So if my full time working, (during the pandemic) busy butt can do it, so can you. And that's on the basis of normal raids. Not even the hardest of the hard things. Basic. Normal raids.

Toxicity is spread pretty evenly across all skill levels in Destiny, and there are people with good attitudes at every level as well It is wild how you had an interaction with 1 person and painted an entire group as "toxic" as a result
-
Edited by jr_0081: 1/31/2025 11:11:25 PMOk, I get your point but I personally believe the toxicity is from every side of the community, some casuals want raid loot not in raids(which that shouldn’t be a thing), but I agree that the game should not be so hard you need broken builds or teammates to survive but idk how bungie can balance both hardcore and casual(I’m kinda both) but maybe frontiers can fix it…hopefully
-
2. Questions 1. Is "git gud" maybe delivered more nicely, ever a valid response or advice? 2. Is destiny allowed to have difficult content not everyone can easily complete?
-
Edited by Candy: 1/30/2025 5:14:19 PMThe ONLY thing I will say is some players are forced into the “ elitist mentality “ over the years. Many causal players have not seen what experienced players have seen. People joining lfgs wasting hours, the entitlement mentality in D2 is very real. Straight facts of this game are that you HAVE to be a certain level of geared to clear some content in the game. That has never been accepted by a large portion of the community. Then everyone who doesn’t want to burn 4 hours trying to get a clear while a 3k triumph score player tries to no mic master oryx with black talon is an “ elitist “. There are definitely levels to the game and they aren’t accepted.
-
I've encountered both ends of the spectrum. While I agree it's usually elitist players who behave immaturely, I've encountered some really spoiled and entitled lower skilled players who are just as bad, if not worse, than those elitists.
-
This game really isn't hard, we can't cater to people who can barely play, or are very unskilled. Neither can it be catered to those with limitless time to play.
-
They have a point though. The majority of players on here complaining the game is hard don’t have anything resembling a build. Admittedly, they didn’t have to be rude about.
-
There will always be those who try to make themselves taller by standing on top of, or holding down others. Don’t waste your time or energy on them. Offer them your sympathy and move on.
-
Wow this guy got so tilted from a reply he made a whole post about it
-
Many high guardian ranked players seem to think that because others don’t have the same number they are trash and can be treated as such; but with that said some of the most amazing, thoughtful, dedicated, and respectful players are also those same high ranked guardians. People forget that not everyone has to be like them or do what they do to have fun. Otherwise everyone in the world would have fentanyl addictions because some people REALLY like it.
-
Dude, I have people messaging me months on end (with no replies from me) raging out about me sharing my opinions here. Always the same crap ‘You don’t play this, you don’t do that, you’re using this, you’re no good, play something else, yadda yadda’ Just a bunch of no lifers who seem to want to circle up with each other and can’t stand when someone dares to say anything negative about their addiction. And most of them aren’t that good to begin with. Just looking for people to punch down on and make themselves feel better. Makes me laugh and post more.
-
Take your own advice and play an easier game to suit your needs. This game has easy content and more challenging content. Just because you want to relax doesn’t mean that they should make the challenging content a breeze for people like you. Im a pretty good player but even then I realise that there are people who are much better and put more time into it. And for that, it is fair that they can have rewards to show off for it. Whether it is emblems, exotic loot or a title.
-
Mate, don't let it bother you. These so called 'Gods' of Destiny spend most of their time cracking one off whilst smothering their blubbery swollen naked torsos with fish paste. Then, when that's exhausted they engage in the quaint custom of rubbing snot on toilet walls or maybe licking a few windows whilst gazing into the night sky uttering the fabled words ' OOO LOOK A GLOWY BLOB ON THE SKY'. They then retire to their crumb infested, sweat laden gaming chairs still wearing their sweaty ten week old crap laden grundies gently rocking backwards and forwards and drooling. In short, dheads.
-
As a 'non elite' player, I agree with the other guy. I would have phrased it differently tho. Also your response was worse... And it's weird that you made this post.
-
I hope it wasn’t my thread you agreed with, lol. I will never understand elitism in a video game. You don’t win anything you can use in real life, just a load of digital weapons and armour that have no practical real world use. They’re just images on a screen, yet the amount of possessiveness, the obsession with achieving in game ‘greatness’ staggers me. Being the best means nothing beyond impressing your mates, if you have any, and displaying some skill at reflexes and coordination. If that’s what makes you feel good then so be it, but I’ve never seen any point in putting down others who may not be as capable as you or accusing them of wanting an easy life, when the whole thing about gaming is that it’s just that, a game, and not real life. Elitism is just bizarre. It drives players away and doesn’t encourage anyone to play.

Edited by Kirka soi ja viini virtaa: 1/30/2025 8:59:20 PMI'm not elitist one bit but I'm still toxic as f. I got 2 weeks xbox communications ban recently for calling the French people names. I think they deserved it but that's debatable. As for difficulty I think Destiny is in line with the recent games. Sadly. I played through all the Dark Souls and stuff and did challenge runs on DS2 (it was my baby) back in 2015-2016. Now I'm old and not much of a player but I've done a couple solo dungeons. They are too long imo. The bosses should scale health with the fireteam. Easy solution. Nobody wants to spend almost an hour on a boss just to fall of the map (happened to me). I haven't done many raids but they just seem to get more complicated after another. I remember Y1 I played with regular gamers and it took A LONG time to coach them through Leviathan. The (potential) player base isn't any different from now to then. That's why the raid completions are so low. Have you tried lfg? It's a coin toss. I actually lost 3 real life friends from Destiny because they found this game was getting too hard for them. They quit. Some quit 6 years ago some 3. All previous Destiny 1 players. Not the happiest moment of my life. Btw, wtf is going on with the crucible and gambit matchmaking xD Is it emblem based? Because almost every game I see 1% emblems just because I have one. It's crazy. Or maybe it's only the 1% players playing anymore -_-

Bungie has pushed the toxic elitists agenda for years now. That pushed their ego even further and made them believe that they are the main metric while everyone else is wrong. They are still a tiny minority. Just one with the loudest voices. Bungies mistake. You don't exclusively cater your content towards tiny portions of your players. Unless you want your game to die ofc... So just block them and don't respond etc. Just let them be mad losers who keep wasting their time in a heavily dying game that they still sink all their free time into. Soon they will have noone left to play against/with. Simply ignoring idiots with egos online is the way to go. Not worth your time.
