After agreeing with a comment on a post talking about game difficulty, I received this delightful message from a fellow player.
The legendary player; (name removed as per forum rules) insert "tough guy name" here, with 3 maxed characters, multiple titles, raid & dungeon clears sent me this:
"Not sure why y'all think they should cater to the worst players ...instead of you trying to be better like everyone else did
Game not hard but most of you don't even try and cry for hand out or ways to get everything solo no mic
There's other game for you"
I believe they maybe younger than an adult.
I replied;
"Thanks for that encouraging message.
I'm sure your massive ego is tied up in how you play this game & you find no fulfilment in any other aspect of your life.
But people like me - who have been playing this game since release - play to have fun, relax, enjoy a moderate challenge.
We don't enjoy a stressful, hardcore playing environment designed for no-life, try-hards like yourself.
Go play Dark Souls if you want a legendarily hard game."
Say what you will about the state of difficulty in the game, personally I would remove all modifiers save for the elemental surges.
But to send me a private message telling me to bugger off & go play an easier game is a bit cheeky.
The toxicity in this community - from what I can see - is coming from a section of the top 5% of players. The elitist players, who is the only section players Bungie is listening to.
That is all.

The elite tier Hunter mains community has been single-handedly carrying the entire Destiny universe on our god-like shoulders for a glorious decade now! Without us, the game would crumble; we are the backbone, the heart, and the soul of this universe. We vigorously demonstrate our skill, passion, and gravitas to the random casuals, showing them what true mastery looks like. Those of us in the D1 pre-alpha vet community vigorously solo raids and Trials of Osiris daily, proving our legendary status. We've been dominating with style, grace, and unparalleled skill for 10 years, and we'll keep doing it for another 10!

And the pathetic players whine and cry the most. This, we get trash changes that ruin the game. Case in point, SBMM. Do everyone a favor, instead of whining and crying, how about you take it up with the person instead. That’s what’s wrong with people now a days…..no balls.

Dude, I have people messaging me months on end (with no replies from me) raging out about me sharing my opinions here. Always the same crap ‘You don’t play this, you don’t do that, you’re using this, you’re no good, play something else, yadda yadda’ Just a bunch of no lifers who seem to want to circle up with each other and can’t stand when someone dares to say anything negative about their addiction. And most of them aren’t that good to begin with. Just looking for people to punch down on and make themselves feel better. Makes me laugh and post more.

I hope it wasn’t my thread you agreed with, lol. I will never understand elitism in a video game. You don’t win anything you can use in real life, just a load of digital weapons and armour that have no practical real world use. They’re just images on a screen, yet the amount of possessiveness, the obsession with achieving in game ‘greatness’ staggers me. Being the best means nothing beyond impressing your mates, if you have any, and displaying some skill at reflexes and coordination. If that’s what makes you feel good then so be it, but I’ve never seen any point in putting down others who may not be as capable as you or accusing them of wanting an easy life, when the whole thing about gaming is that it’s just that, a game, and not real life. Elitism is just bizarre. It drives players away and doesn’t encourage anyone to play.

Honestly I don't think the challenge in the game is that bad. I LOVE GMs. It's my absolute favorite part of the game besides VoG. I feel like some mechanics in certain parts of the game add more of a job and headache to the game than challenge. Especially with Vespers. That boss fight is just insanely spaced out and only because the mechanics. When you compare it to other dungeo. But personally I believe all the modifiers in the game are fine, even oscillation. I really like the addition of Banes. They remind me of other looter games like Diablo, PoE, and even warframe. I just enjoy the state of challenges in the game, however I do not enjoy the uncalled for nerds and buff that make it through the cracks. Like nerfing hunter prismatic melee to be almost useless in GM while Titans ran through consecrating literally EVERYTHING. But I think all class mains feel like other classes get more attention than their own. Fingers crossed for the upcoming arc changes that will hopefully make all the classes feel refreshed and powerful. -
Play on your own pace and don't care (too much) about others. Either you enjoy the gameplay or not. If you enjoy then improve step-by-step and don't give a f about the opinions of others about you. Ignore trolls.

Edited by EatTheCrow: 1/30/2025 1:10:55 PMI mean, they offered solid advice. If this game is too hard for you, move on to a different game. Why is that offensive to you? Do any of you really think Bungie will tone down destiny even more at this point? I'm not an elitist. I don't ever do raids anymore...but I don't doubt I'd be able to handle my own through one. If you don't think you can do something and are more willing to ask for it to be easier...then the activity isn't for you. Just move on. Good amount of easy stuff to do in the game. Edit: your message back to him was way more toxic. Mirror check.

I Totally agree with this - My opinion is that if you put 6 Egos who "Know it all" in a Raid together - They would have all fallen out by the Boss! Its all just a D*** Sizing competition (and most pass of things they have read/learnt online as their own ideas ayway )My LFG experience was terrible as Im quite strong minded and won't have some randomer from the other side of the world making me feel bad because I'm not running the load-out THEY WANT me to. My response was always "Its a game - Ill wear what I want" Of course most don't like that. During COVID 19 i decided to start a clan as sold business and had nothing to do so neded a project - We are now 12 clans strong (as bungie weirdly limits to 100 members) As a leader I am very wary of eliteist players and protective of those I play with regularly as I know first hand what its like to play with toxic people and enduring it, thinking they are the only people who could help. So i decided to build something different. Im a weird D2 Vet as im the opposite to most - If your good great! But if your gunna lord it over others - Im gunna tell you to do one! I don't value cracked players - in fact i find most toxic sweats loose out 9/10 - they don't influence people and seems their only goal is to impress someone they don't even know, on how much they know about Destiny - to those people I say "Get a life" - Those who know - its the laughs that count - even if a raid does take 2 hours :)

guardian rank 7 message 😂😂😂 elitist

Edited by TripleF73: 1/30/2025 12:23:14 PMI think that there are quite a few toxic people in all camps in the forums. Casuals, elites, ex-players, hidden accounts, mid tiers players, Bungie defenders, holier than thou players that would never commit the faux pas you did then succeed in doing worse three or four times in their response, etc. We are all guilty of being toxic. Myself included. Typical game forum from my experience as a gamer. Just ignore the toxic 🤡’s and try not to be one yourself. It’s quite difficult when there are so many people that type before they think. Again I’m guilty of that too sometimes. Never have I DM’d anyone on here to insult them though. I have DM’d only once or twice to apologise when I think I’ve been over the line.

I wouldn’t of even bothered messaging the person back seems kind of gay to be hate mailing in 2025 tbh
-
Dark Souls is easy. Get good.
-
Womp womp
-
Literally no one cares whether you receive "hate" mail or someone wants to propose to you.
-
Uhhhh block the guy sending you hate mail? This post makes me think that you secretly like the attention from the basement dweller
-
As a 'non elite' player, I agree with the other guy. I would have phrased it differently tho. Also your response was worse... And it's weird that you made this post.
-
I wouldn't have phrased it how he did, but there is a point to what he said. First point: This game is a multiplayer oriented title. Those that are suicidal enough to go solo can do so, but those that cry about it being too hard to solo are the type to enter an F1 race on a bicycle and complain that their at a disadvantage. Second point: There are alot of players that enter dungeons, exotic missions, and, more importantly, raids without mics, then cry when they can't finish. Communication is key. Don't go complaining that the game is too hard when it's clearly user error. Third point: Not everyone will get every triumph, and that's okay. The problem is when people constantly -blam!- about not getting them because they're too hard. Of course they're going to be hard, it wouldn't be much of an accomplishment if it wasn't. Now there are some very valid arguments, like strikes needing to be less accommodating to difficulty and just be for fun, but things like scaling dungeon boss health? No. Get better.

Here's how you deal with these people. Back when Dual Destiny launched I had an opinion a lot of these players didn't like. Mainly that the DLC was sold with the exotic class items front and centre, yet nothing was mentioned about them being behind a chore heavy mission. And that I don't enjoy activities like that so I wouldn't be doing it. Well. They stamped their feet and launched off, but more than one decided to take it further and message me. One even suggested that I should go get cancer. I replied with "Sorry, I don't do requests". He kept on with more abuse about me being old and past it etc etc. I just kept replying with replies like .. "How upset was your mum when she realised the Hospital threw the best bit away ??" "If I met your mum and girlfriend there would only be one woman there right ??" "I bet your parents had to tie a steak around your neck just to get the dog to play with you when you were a kid" He then said "I did your Mom" I replied with "I take it you reburied her properly then ??" He said that "my mom" had "loved every minute" ignoring the fact he was bragging about being a necrophiliac. I replied with .. "So did yours. Ask your Dad. He was there. Filmed the whole thing." Basically just take the mickey out of the attention seeking oxygen thief. You ignoring them is a victory in their pea sized brain. Keep replying and use it as away to cheer yourself up because people like this are a way of proving to yourself that hey, at least you aren't THAT dumb. Do you know why the world is full of people like that ?? .. Because they keep getting away with it. Just a thought.

I coined the phrase toxic elites to refer to people like this…. It’s funny because what they fail to understand is destiny is a casual game … they are also more than likely the bitter addicts… it often explains their toxic behaviour
-
You can make an educated guess as to what kind of childhood a lot of players have had by the remarks they make on this forum, and through private messages. From a psychological point of view, there are players who are naturally good at video games and may find stuff easier to complete than the average player. But because they have had a decent up bringing in a caring, loving home, they sympathise with those who are struggling, and even offer to help. Then again, they may have had an unfortunate childhood, but decided to make a go of life by themselves. This again gives them the empathy and the will to help others. Then you get the poor souls who've had terrible childhoods, maybe ignored or bullied and pushed by their self righteous parents into thinking that they have to be the best at whatever they do, to be noticed in their miseable lives. These tend to be the toxic players who HAVE to be top of any list, and send out derogatory comments and messages to make people feel small compared to them, instead of offering help. The best way to deal with these people is to ignore them. This is the ultimate payback because they HATE being ignored.

Edited by LikwiD_SmOkE22: 1/29/2025 11:33:11 PMAnd the same goes for the toxic casual make the game super easy crybabies. Yall both are just two sides of the same coin. The casual crybabies don't even try the content before complaining and the super elitists want everything impossible to obtain. I'll let you in on a little secret. You don't need to be a God tier professional gamer to complete 100% of this games content.

Most of this forum needs to get a shrink and take some medication.
-
Toxic players are the most toxic. How much you play has little to do with how big of a jerk you are. It’s ok to call out a bad behaviour but you can’t generalize to everyone else based on how good at the game they are.
-
Maybe you just need to be more "elite"?
-
I agree that elitists are the most toxic and generally ones that focus just on one activity (PvE or PvP). They want their ‘achievements’ to put them above others but they’re the ones setting the goal posts - to them, their achievement is worthwhile but other ones aren’t and they don’t see them irony when others don’t see their achievement as a ‘big deal’. A great example of this are Godslayer PvE rank 11’s gatekeeping things and holding that title / rank in high regard yet not complaining that comp rewards and trials have been made easier to achieve - (which is a good thing they are).
-
As what many would call an "elitist, try-hard, gatekeeping sweatlord that lives in his mother's basement who egos on randoms in the game while gatekeeping players from content all while screaming "git gud n00b" and breathing heavily through the mouth and not trimming my neck beard"...just block the person and move on.
