After agreeing with a comment on a post talking about game difficulty, I received this delightful message from a fellow player.
The legendary player; (name removed as per forum rules) insert "tough guy name" here, with 3 maxed characters, multiple titles, raid & dungeon clears sent me this:
"Not sure why y'all think they should cater to the worst players ...instead of you trying to be better like everyone else did
Game not hard but most of you don't even try and cry for hand out or ways to get everything solo no mic
There's other game for you"
I believe they maybe younger than an adult.
I replied;
"Thanks for that encouraging message.
I'm sure your massive ego is tied up in how you play this game & you find no fulfilment in any other aspect of your life.
But people like me - who have been playing this game since release - play to have fun, relax, enjoy a moderate challenge.
We don't enjoy a stressful, hardcore playing environment designed for no-life, try-hards like yourself.
Go play Dark Souls if you want a legendarily hard game."
Say what you will about the state of difficulty in the game, personally I would remove all modifiers save for the elemental surges.
But to send me a private message telling me to bugger off & go play an easier game is a bit cheeky.
The toxicity in this community - from what I can see - is coming from a section of the top 5% of players. The elitist players, who is the only section players Bungie is listening to.
That is all.

I agree that elitists are the most toxic and generally ones that focus just on one activity (PvE or PvP). They want their ‘achievements’ to put them above others but they’re the ones setting the goal posts - to them, their achievement is worthwhile but other ones aren’t and they don’t see them irony when others don’t see their achievement as a ‘big deal’. A great example of this are Godslayer PvE rank 11’s gatekeeping things and holding that title / rank in high regard yet not complaining that comp rewards and trials have been made easier to achieve - (which is a good thing they are).
