After agreeing with a comment on a post talking about game difficulty, I received this delightful message from a fellow player.
The legendary player; (name removed as per forum rules) insert "tough guy name" here, with 3 maxed characters, multiple titles, raid & dungeon clears sent me this:
"Not sure why y'all think they should cater to the worst players ...instead of you trying to be better like everyone else did
Game not hard but most of you don't even try and cry for hand out or ways to get everything solo no mic
There's other game for you"
I believe they maybe younger than an adult.
I replied;
"Thanks for that encouraging message.
I'm sure your massive ego is tied up in how you play this game & you find no fulfilment in any other aspect of your life.
But people like me - who have been playing this game since release - play to have fun, relax, enjoy a moderate challenge.
We don't enjoy a stressful, hardcore playing environment designed for no-life, try-hards like yourself.
Go play Dark Souls if you want a legendarily hard game."
Say what you will about the state of difficulty in the game, personally I would remove all modifiers save for the elemental surges.
But to send me a private message telling me to bugger off & go play an easier game is a bit cheeky.
The toxicity in this community - from what I can see - is coming from a section of the top 5% of players. The elitist players, who is the only section players Bungie is listening to.
That is all.

I wouldn't have phrased it how he did, but there is a point to what he said. First point: This game is a multiplayer oriented title. Those that are suicidal enough to go solo can do so, but those that cry about it being too hard to solo are the type to enter an F1 race on a bicycle and complain that their at a disadvantage. Second point: There are alot of players that enter dungeons, exotic missions, and, more importantly, raids without mics, then cry when they can't finish. Communication is key. Don't go complaining that the game is too hard when it's clearly user error. Third point: Not everyone will get every triumph, and that's okay. The problem is when people constantly -blam!- about not getting them because they're too hard. Of course they're going to be hard, it wouldn't be much of an accomplishment if it wasn't. Now there are some very valid arguments, like strikes needing to be less accommodating to difficulty and just be for fun, but things like scaling dungeon boss health? No. Get better.
