Bring back craftable weapons

Ever since getting rid of crafting for seasonal weapons I’ve cared far less about the seasonal weapons. If I can’t craft it I just don’t care about the weapon, except for some of the GM weapons. By removing crafting from seasonal weapons you’ve instantly made us (at least me and my clan) care less about the weapons that are dropping. Literally I find one weapon I kinda care about, half heartedly grind it until I get what I kinda want, then don’t engage for anything else because the grind is that terrible. At least with crafting I would actually want to engage with the seasonal activity to get all the weapons craftable, even if it’s not interesting now I might be interested later so I would grind it out.

  • Crafting, yet another post about crafting being the end all be all of making the game better. Carfting is just a way to deal with the excessive amount of bloat and waste int he weapon hunt. Too much worthless, garbage drops! So many in fact the chance of getting the one you want is so small as to be close to zero, particularly considering the bad luck some players have. What would actually make the weapon hunt better is to reduce the total number of perks, make the reduced perk pool have actually useful perks. Make it so no weapon can drop with 100+ possible perk combinations. So any perk combination i s good, maybe not best, but good enough you will not just toss it. Make it so weapons are an actually valuable resource to grind for, with a very real chance of getting the drop you want. This would make crafting obsolete and weapon hunting fun.

    • I have played significantly less since they removed crafting. You’re more likely to get the perk combo you want before you get the 5 red borders to craft a weapon. Now instead of chasing all the red boarders, I focus on the only one or two standout a season offers.

      • I agree, with how terrible the RNG is in this game removing crafted weapons was a mistake I literally don't care for any weapons because i know i will never get my 5/5

For real. Crafting was in such a good state before people started complaining about it. Sources of Seasonal weapons rotate out so them being craftable made sense. Raids can’t be farmed unless they’re the weekly featured ones and by that point they have had their time in the sun. DLC locations stop being played after a certain period so then being craftable man sense too. People complaining about crafting act like seasonal content and raids were the only thing to play. They can go farm dungeons, core playlists, and trials. This whole system I hear Bungie wants to make crafting a catch up mechanic is a dumb idea. Make the weapons craftable off the rip or don’t.

          • Agreed. Was hoping they would have expanded upon it rather than getting rid of it completely. Bungie can’t seem to understand that random perks are a bygone concept that should have stayed in D1.

            • My thoughts exactly. I used to grind seasonal activities like crazy, until I'd collected all the patterns. Now I barely play them at all. Beating my head against Bungie's perk-weighted rng wall just doesn't feel worth it or enjoyable.

Yeah crafting was great. It was the only reason that I even attempted to do raids like DSC or King's Fall, because I knew the no matter how unlucky I gonna be with the drops and teammates, I gonna get what I want. It was th main reason to spend days doing the Coil, Dares, or patroling and double dipping lootboxes on the Leviathan. Generally, there 2 things you can do in Destiny. A) Acquire the things that you want, AKA the farming, the WORK. B) Use the things that you got and experiment with creating different bulids, and see how they gonna work out, AKA the FUN. With crafting you spend less time doing A, and more time doing B. It's like you had more time doing what you actually wanted to do.

Agreed 100%. I will spend MORE time grinding for red borders than for random drops. It’s just too unlikely to get the 5/5 god roll (which might be nerfed later) to be worth the time. A red border though? That’s worth investment to unlock. And it solves the vault problem.

            • Since they can't make worthwhile content..........they have to maintain the hamster wheel a different way. If you're hoping for crafting to come back it could be a long while.

              • Crafting doesn't matter. Player engagement sank during seasons with crafting regardless. Players didn't stick around Into The Light had no crafting and caused player engagement to spike higher than all post Lightfall seasons. If the content is fun and there's tiers of loot to chase, player engagement goes up. Current season, Heresy, has a higher player count than the two previous seasons and the player drop off wasn't as severe. This is why Bungie knows they can pull back on crafting and ignore these posts. The numbers and player engagement data do not lie.

Crafting definitely doesn't make you care more about the weapons that are dropping. What you really mean is it makes you actually feel like playing because you know you won't have to put in as much effort to get what you want. Removing crafting gives you a reason to actually try out the stuff that drops. If you just craft it, you're just gonna go for the 1 single god roll usually. Without crafting, you actually have incentive to try the stuff that drops. Yes there are god rolls, but god rolls aren't the only viable combos. There are tonnes of solid perks that don't get used when crafting is a thing. When crafting exists, everything that drops is meaningless besides red borders. So you open up a chest, all these engrams pop out but who cares if it's not a red border. There is a middle ground they've found. You can focus specific weapons instead of relying purely on straight up RNG. Can't tell you how many perks I thought were meh that I realised were actually great because RNG gave me a reason to actually try them out.

Unpopular opinion: Don’t bring it back. It simply forces a one weapon meta and that is NOT good for the game. Plain and simple. If you want crafting then it should be for mid-tier weapons. Sorry, but it’s bad for the game for both PvE and PvP.

                          • As far as seasonal content goes, I think craftable guns with Adept versions that can only be random rolls would be a good middle ground.

                          • It’s something we paid for. Crafting should be a permanent feature for ALL seasonal weapons, it’s a way to access your paid content after public removal.

But... But crafting removed the satisfaction of obtaining a random weapon... You mean you're not satisfied with your Boondoggle with 62 range at the cost of only having 6 stability and the contradicting perk combo of To The Pain/ Harmony? Or Keen Thistle with Slickdraw and Discord? Or Unloved with 80 range at the cost of having only 15 stability, basically making full burst crits damn near impossible beyond like 12 meters and the trait combo of Heating Up/ Closing Time? If they're going to make us wait several seasons or even a whole year before we able to start grinding the red borders for "new" gear, then they should just skip the red border part and increase the number of activities with craftable weapons. Unloved case in point, it doesn't matter how good a trait combo is if the stats basically make it unusable on top of the fact you have to effectively play the lottery for a weapon drop in general in dungeons, only to play it again for a good combo, only to play it again for good stats. As good as mine is with Hatchling and Paracausal Affinity, the only reason I don't use it more often is because 46 stability isn't enough to work with when hip firing is somehow more stable than ADS, which is backwards and equally wrong by default. Otherwise, if they actually want us to be satisfied with obtaining random weapons, since apparently crafting removed that satisfaction according to them, they need to: 1. Make it easier to reliably obtain that weapon. And the tonic system is definitely how NOT to do it. 2. Make every roll on a weapon good. 3. Make every roll equally likely to drop, Zen Moment and Precision Instrument should be just as likely to drop as Keep Away and Magnificent Howl. There. I not only solved the (non-existent) crafting problem they named, but I also improved the grind for the players, increasing player engagement which is by default, a good thing. Bungie should hire me at this point.

I played and enjoyed the game the most I ever had from WQ to TFS. Largely because of crafting. On demand weapon experimentation had me playing more than ever. Meanwhile Revenant saw my lowest engagement probably ever. It killed that experimentation. The game is better as more build crafter than it is as more RNG loot chaser. The thing that kills me is seeing a very prominent and popular streamer that complained about crafting STILL getting KF red borders during Pantheon. He said it ruined the game and he hadn’t even played the raid enough to have gotten all the patterns. Was probably chasing adepts anyway. Yet I have all the KF patterns and still sometimes play KF to help people get their patterns completed. We can 100% absolutely have it both ways and unless they plan on doing that, I’m done.

                                • It’s this simple: Add back crafting, but keep enhancing and enhanced perks are exclusive to enhanced weapons. Makes it so you can craft weapons still, but enhanced weapons and enhanced ADEPTS are still better.

                                  • I think crafting is kinda a nothing-issue, usually used to hide the fact that the last handful of seasonal weapons haven't really been.... exciting? I'd think that if a seasonal batch of weapons were truely desired, people would want to farm for that perfect roll, regardless of if it's craftable or not. Craftable weapons don't make the weapons more desirable, they just add another checklist item for those that need every box ticked.
