Let me preface this by saying that I'm at best a Silver player in 3s. In 6s pretty much the same, maybe a bit higher, but I am by no means gold/plat/ascendant. With the trials passage changes I see no point in playing the osiris passage over the lighthouse passage. The rewards from the lighthouse outweigh the grind IMHO. Here is what I feel would make higher streaks/flawless more accessible to the lower ranked players.
Trials uses comp ranking for matchmaking instead of open skill. Bronze/Silver match against each other, Gold/Plat match against each other, Plat I can match against ascendants.
What is the point of a competitve crucible ranking if it's not used in the most competitive mode in the game for crucible?
As a bronze/silver player matching against plat/ascendant players guarantees me whatever meager streak I'm on is instantly ended and reset to 0. Rank based matchmaking would give lower ranked players a more enjoyable experience when trying to improve their play and skill while also increasing the chances for them to get the 3/4/5 streaks for adepts, glow, ship, etc. This weekend alone I've matched against at least half a dozen ascendant players ( I know this because of their emblem and insane skill execution).
Penalties for leaving (this is a much more often occurence than when was failing at the passage of persistence).
Leave one match = 12/24 hour ban for the account
Leave a second match = ban for the entire weekend for the account. (my original thought was for the act/episode/season, but that's too harsh imo)
Bungie has the technology to recognize if a player returns to orbit vs a network drop, so they should use it. I understand people get frustrated if they're over skilled carrying someone that just is not contributing (i've been on both sides of that coin oddly enough), however I've finished multiple games since the passage changes where I was the only one left, because my entire team just bailed. This guarantees me a loss and ruins my experience in multiple ways.
I understand that I'm a lower level player that can contribute negatively to a higher level players experience just by not contributing very much because I die early, or might play too passive if I"m nervous, however, I do try to contribute, and am very much trying to learn what I can from each win and loss to try and improve my skill, which I've been told has happened over the last few months.
I would like a more enjoyable/fluid experience than getting 5/0, 5/1, 5/2 losses repeatedly because I'm the low end of the stick trying to contribute.
TL,DR:
Use comp ranking for Trials matchmaking, harsher penalties for leaving trials matches.

If you want Trials to be competitive then the changes need to be reverted and turned into a Passage of Practice which has its own pool for players using that card. Make the passage only obtainable by lower skill and newer players. Problem solved. New and bad players still get the loot but without as much pain. Have the adept either by RNG based or streak based (like it is currently) for that passage. The issue with Trials wasnt that it wasnt accessible, the issue was that good players hated bad players and got toxic because the bad players never had a good space to actually practice (SBMM does not help when it comes to practicing as Trials is open skill) The other thing that needs to be done is a revert to pre March 5th 2024 PvP changes and only keep certain balance patches (like the pulse nerf) and then get a working anti-cheat.

If you want an enjoyable trials experience utilize the trials passage instead of the lighthouse passage. Learn the maps, learn the lanes, learn how the game mode functions. Once your comfortable in your ability THEN start utilizing the lighthouse passage. [quote]Trials uses comp ranking for matchmaking instead of open skill. You have 26 lifetime crucible resets; and really never touched trials before the rework. Why wouldn't you make use of the trials passage that Bungie is giving to allow players like yourself with minimal experience to get the experience for this mode...As your skill increases you'll continue facing better players and one day you will find that all your trials passage games are getting too easy; or you find the game is now putting you against players that have all have 'trials glows' which means you've 'graduated' and are now basically ready for the lighthouse passage.

If those players actually dedicated time and effort to improving so they could achieve longer streaks and flawlesses. You stated yourself that you’re making the choice to use the Lighthouse passage instead of the passage that pits you against similarly skilled players, that’s on you. You’re actively choosing to throw yourself to the wolves as a bottom tier PvP player instead of working your way up to the Lighthouse passage. But that’s just it, you want all of the rewards with the most minimal effort. Shocking.
