Let me preface this by saying that I'm at best a Silver player in 3s. In 6s pretty much the same, maybe a bit higher, but I am by no means gold/plat/ascendant. With the trials passage changes I see no point in playing the osiris passage over the lighthouse passage. The rewards from the lighthouse outweigh the grind IMHO. Here is what I feel would make higher streaks/flawless more accessible to the lower ranked players.
Trials uses comp ranking for matchmaking instead of open skill. Bronze/Silver match against each other, Gold/Plat match against each other, Plat I can match against ascendants.
What is the point of a competitve crucible ranking if it's not used in the most competitive mode in the game for crucible?
As a bronze/silver player matching against plat/ascendant players guarantees me whatever meager streak I'm on is instantly ended and reset to 0. Rank based matchmaking would give lower ranked players a more enjoyable experience when trying to improve their play and skill while also increasing the chances for them to get the 3/4/5 streaks for adepts, glow, ship, etc. This weekend alone I've matched against at least half a dozen ascendant players ( I know this because of their emblem and insane skill execution).
Penalties for leaving (this is a much more often occurence than when was failing at the passage of persistence).
Leave one match = 12/24 hour ban for the account
Leave a second match = ban for the entire weekend for the account. (my original thought was for the act/episode/season, but that's too harsh imo)
Bungie has the technology to recognize if a player returns to orbit vs a network drop, so they should use it. I understand people get frustrated if they're over skilled carrying someone that just is not contributing (i've been on both sides of that coin oddly enough), however I've finished multiple games since the passage changes where I was the only one left, because my entire team just bailed. This guarantees me a loss and ruins my experience in multiple ways.
I understand that I'm a lower level player that can contribute negatively to a higher level players experience just by not contributing very much because I die early, or might play too passive if I"m nervous, however, I do try to contribute, and am very much trying to learn what I can from each win and loss to try and improve my skill, which I've been told has happened over the last few months.
I would like a more enjoyable/fluid experience than getting 5/0, 5/1, 5/2 losses repeatedly because I'm the low end of the stick trying to contribute.
TL,DR:
Use comp ranking for Trials matchmaking, harsher penalties for leaving trials matches.
