Me and some friends were talking about empathy, and one of them said something to the effect of "empathy is just about making others like you, so you benefit.". I am having a hard time getting around this idea, so here I am. Thoughts?
Yes, I know this is a weird place to ask that, but this seemed like a better place than reddit.
I mean, isnt that pretty much how we differentiate a "normal person" from a narcissist or psychopath. The latter typically have the learned component of empathy - whch they take full advantage of - but lack the innate one - resulting in that they don't actually stop themselves or give a crap when it's more personally beneficial to not act in accordance with the norms.
