I understand that this is one of your flagship enemies, and you want it to be a formidable foe, but it's overtuned, in my opinion.
I'm speaking specifically from a solo experience perspective, but the Tormentor boss needs scaling down for the solo experience because it takes WAY too long to kill if you're playing solo, especially if you get it as the final boss.
You spend 99% of the fight running away trying to find cover. I know you guys probably love this and wanted this to be what happens, BUT it's not good from a player perspective. It just makes the fight last so much longer than it really should.
Here's a breakdown of my biggest issues-
It has way too much health.
The tracking on the projectiles is way too aggressive & they go through structures & parts of the map, making it ridiculously hard to avoid them.
The startup animation is also too quick, in my opinion, which leaves almost no reaction time to avoid it when it's thrown.
The hit box is inconsistent (the amount of times my Thundercrash, or projectile super on other characters, goes straight through the center of the Tormentor and it doesn't register as a hit, is about 80% of the time!)
The health regen mechanic - It needs to be removed completely. You spend so long grinding down it's health and a bunch of adds spawn and the bats (I forget their actual name) give it its health back. It's infuriating. It's unnecessary busy work. The fight is long enough without that added hurdle thrown into the mix.
At least put a couple of heavy ammo crates in the boss arena, so we're not left plinking away with a primary weapon for 30 minutes!

Honestly when I do nether I make sure that the tormentor is the first boss I kill so I don’t have to deal with him

Edited by Tigerpaws: 3/31/2025 7:16:51 AMThe suppression field is way too big and should only scale out in a forward direction, that way you can atleast run and slide under him we when slams.

Activities outside of Strikes and Raids should be scaled back due to player size. Bungie has been terrible with balance for a long time now and I doubt they would think of improving this aspect due to power disabled/minus power being added with Final Shape and Bungie just wanting high play time numbers to try and look good despite all they have done and the fact of the player count being lower than Curse of Osiris.

I find the fight very inconsistent, I've one shot it. I've also fought it for 20-25 minutes losing all rezs, where every crit was 200-400! I've Thundercrashed 4-5 times without killing it in a single fight, and have gotten the one bang off spawn. The fight is all over the place.

Bump++ (OP ✅) It’s tedious though doable…though I often just bounce instead. 👈 Speaking of tedium…Microcosm was mentioned…am stuck on finding a team that uses a mic or text to communicate, as it is essential in that mission. The number of players who obviously still need to do those 3x missions is noticeable, yet no one (so far) will use a mic…even though it clearly states - ‘Mic Required’ 🧐 I digress…🙄 That is all. Note to Self: Ease Springs! 🤖 MDGA

That was our last boss for the hatchling barrow dyad quest and he was a pain in the -blam!-. Imagine nothing but an smug, glaive, and sword. It sucked. Glad to have it done.
-
Lmao 🤣 you can't be serious
-
Revenge for us cheesing him!
-
You waste your time in Nether?
-
i found a way to damage him from outside his arena. lure him to a spot where he presses himself against the forcefield and tickle him with bolt charge. when the bats come out i run in and place a finality's auger turret to take them out. then i go back to bolt charging him again. sometimes he presses against the wall of the arena so hard his whole upperbody sticks out.
-
I did the barrow quest, close quarters weapons only, full nether on expert because I am stupid and didnt know I did not have to do the full run that way. the tormentor was the final boss. This experience alone has made me refuse to do tormentor unless hes the first boss and even then I might just roll my start zone again. He isnt difficult on the first and second tier just frustrating. Third tier he sucks, that double blast with tracking will eat a revive.
-
Its easy as he'll to kill. User error!
-
It's crazy how offended Bungie got over everyone Farming this guy for Adepts.
-
I never commit to a full run solo unless I get the Tormentor first. You need to get this d-bag out of the way fast and early.
-
I'm my opinion boss tormentors just need theire damage reduction reduced or their aimbot removed. I have done expert nether solo and alot of other times with a group and no matter what the fight just feels like a drag.
-
The neather is fine, stop trying to get good content nerf'd. As plenty of people solo neather on expert with zero problems.
-
nah yall are joke in this thread 😂
-
I had no issues with him; respectfully, maybe you just need to get gud?
-
Just jump on top of those anchors looking things and shoot down until it dies. I find the strand subjugator way more annoying. Stage is way smaller and you have to deal with more enemies.
-
Always get the precision boon
-
Getting it as the final boss on solo expert is a drag, yea. But it’s not hard. It’s just like any other tormentor. Just in boss form
