Let me say from the get go. This is NOT a PS5 stick drift issue. How do I know this? My control is brand new, my 3rd replacement infact.
Now to the point. Whenever I play destiny 2 no matter how much I adjust the settings (and I've tried then exhaustively) my game and menus will get stick drift. And not just a little Usher slide to the left, it goes on a circular offensive, spinning my Guardian like a small boy wearing headphones just dancing away in his kitchen.
There has to be something I'm missing or yet another Bungie update went wrong. Calling all Guardians. I need help!

Edited by sav: 3/30/2025 5:40:15 PMSo what you’re saying is your PS5 controller from factory has a stick drift issue?
-
Edited by BetweenMyself: 3/30/2025 5:17:21 PMFirst and foremost, just because a given controller is new does not mean the underlying issue cannot be Stick Drift; on rare occasion controllers have problems straight out of the box due to manufacturing errors. In addition I would note that you haven’t stated definitively whether you are only experiencing this issue within Destiny 2. Do you have any other games that use the same stick for camera control and have you tested them as well to see if you still experience the spinning issue? Setting those aside, here is some general troubleshooting advice: • Make sure that both your controller is up to date with the latest firmware and that your console is likewise running the most recent software version. • Try playing with your controller connected to your console via USB; if you do not experience the issue while playing in this fashion you may be encountering bluetooth interference. If you normally play with your controller connected via USB, try switching to bluetooth or swapping out the USB cord. • Check your controller settings not only in-game but at the console level as well. Make sure you don’t have any inputs double bound inadvertently with the control stick that could result in unexpected behavior. • As a test, try swapping the functionality of your Left and Right sticks (exchange move with look) to see if you continue spinning or if the issue suddenly becomes one of constantly moving in one direction. • Perform a Factory Reset on your controller and update the firmware as necessary. • Clear your console cache; on occasion seemingly random issues can be fixed by flushing accumulated errors from your system. • Try connecting your controller to a PC and running PS5 controller diagnostic and/or calibration software. Hold your controller with the same posture and at the same distance from your PC as you do while playing on your console (if you play with your controller in your lap seven feet away using bluetooth, for example) during testing to ensure you are getting relevant data. Make sure the software you run specifically tests PS5 Controller functionality and not just general PC controller support/compatibility. • Contact Playstation Customer support and have someone walk you through a more detailed list of troubleshooting steps. As a last ditch effort you could try performing a Factory Reset on the console itself (only do this once you have exhausted all other troubleshooting steps). Make sure to fully back up any and all saved game data and system settings using Playstation Cloud Storage and/or external drives and that you have ready access to the username/password for your PS account before performing a reset to reduce the overall time and pain needed to get your system back to where it was before.
