Remember when Nightstalker wasn't the subclass reliant on invis?

I remember when I could dodge pretty much whenever I wanted. I remember when Nightstalker wasn't even the stealth subclass. I remember in D1 when neutral game perks on subclasses weren't solely reliant on ability charges like shadestep or invis on Bladancer or TG on titans I remember when I could have my abilities recharge at a decent rate I remember when Bungie would adjust what abilities did and their potency instead of just making them so much slower to wait for I remember when the dodge wasn't a problem because it was a f***ing dodge roll and nothing more I remember when Shadowshot's quiver let me fire three times instead of firing two volleys of three that sometimes won't even kill because one arrow doesn't kill on its own because f*** consistency i guess I remember when primary weapons did way higher bodyshot damage across the board so it was easier to shut down shotgun apes with stuff like hand cannons and scout rifles I remember when Third Eye was a perk for primary weapons. You know, when Ace of Spades and Mida Multi-Tool weren't the ONLY two weapons that let you keep your radar while ads other than Hunters using Knucklehead Radar? I remember when I could use Arc Blade, an actually FAST as hell super that was hype as hell to play because teleporting and zipping around with something other than a clunky staff or a pair of plastic butterknives was actually fun I remember when Warlocks could just get a second grenade charge on their colar subclass just as part of their skill tree. Say what you want about D1 but the reason why none of these crazy things were busted in that game is because the entire sandbox had a lot more power and lethality to it. Hell, invis is apparently a huge problem in D2 but back in D1 it wasn't. Why? Because there were so many other lethal options it didn't even matter. Ever since vanilla D2 the personality and flair that kept D1 so damn fun in the sandbox is basically gone now. We still have shadestep! But you have to wait over 30 seconds in PvP for a 1 second long animation because it reloads your gun or refills your melee. Because of that you have to wait longer sorry! We still have Bladedancer! But the super is way slower and only got blink back after over 4 years and by the way it's still slow as hell. But it has combi strings now! But everyone only ever uses the force palm combo becuase it's objectively the best one. You can dodge in it too. Cool. Even though you'll still be shot down. We have the garrison dodge! But it's only on solar Warlocks now (???). Also it doesn't give any reload or melee refill so we're gonna put in on a way shorter cooldown. You know, closer to the way shadestep worked in D1 (I know shadestep wasn't on an 8 second cooldown. The delay between rolls was shorter but my point still stands). Titans could shoulder charge whenever they wanted in D1, which was awesome. Was it okay for it to be a ohko? No, not really. Not in most scenarios, but that didn't stop people from being able to shut down titans with their gun beofre they could close the gap. Bladedancers could effectively get a slightly longer-lunging vanilla melee ability that procced health regen on a kill without having to use a dodge next to someone to get it back to keep the cycle. Stormcallers had the LONGEST melee I've seen in my life and it wasn't insane because every subclass had something they could use that was nuts. Compare any ability in D1 to an ability in D2. D1's will be stronger. Compare the primaries of D1 to primaries in D2. In terms of base ttk they're stronger in D1. Scout rifles were actually good in the Crucible. Pulse rifles were strong but not annoying as hell. Auto rifles had less range but flinched people to death if they dared to come close. Hand cannons didn't need to land all three crits. At the highest resil levels they needed 1 bodyshot and two crits. Might sound a bit nuts but in the context of everything else it was easy to screw up or miss a shot because of the slightly lower AA in D1 and potentially lose a gunfight. Jesus D2 may have more stuff to do than D1 and may look and sound better (still can't play on anything lower than 60 fps now), but good lord people constantly wanting things in D2 nerfed is so f***ing dumb because a lot of the stuff people want changed in this game people were perfectly fine with or at the very least indifferent to it in D1

  • D2 is suffering from over nerfing now. Anything that is even decent now is becoming over used because it’s the only thing left worth using. I love build crafting and doing cool things. But let’s look at what a “typical player” (I’m thinking 1.0 KD) would think about each subclass. I repeat not necessarily my opinions!!! When you look at the 6 subclass options on each you begin to see a trend. Somethings have just never been good, some WERE good and then got nerfed into oblivion, and then there is the stuff that is “OP” now that has avoided most nerfs until now. Prismatic in general: Are my abilities even recharging? I can’t see them move. Hunter Void: Invis, tether and suppressor nice for not dying to supers. Arc: Uh shotgun melee I guess. Solar: Throwing knife and golden gun. On your mark is good but you have to not die for it to be good. Stasis: Cool super, shatterdive kinda fun. Strand: Yay grapple. But wow why does ensnaring slam and threaded specter have such long cooldowns? Warlock Void: Overcharge grenade, throw grenade, hope for kills. Arc: Electric slide and arc buddies. (Probably one of the most average player friendly ones tbh) Solar: Song of flame is great, Phoenix dive is nice, everything else is tough to use well. Stasis: Got some good stuff, long ability cooldowns but they are potent. Strand: Threadlings and ranged melee. Idk what else. Titan: Arc: Punchy Punchy BOLT CHARGE SPAM!!!!! 😂 Void: There is hardly anything here 😂 I can have like 2 barricades that give me overshields a match. Solar: Uh consecration? Idk I don’t get enough abilities for sunspot or roaring flames. Stasis: Awesome melee, but wow my super sucks. Strand: Uh suspend barricade, punchy build?
