Please disable matchmaking join-in-progress for story content

Basially the title. Reintroducing a strike a great for the game. Making it a part of your seasonal story works fine as well. But for -blam!-'s sake don't make people join into the middle of it after much of the strike and its associated story elements have passed. That is absolutely terrible for story progression and spoilers. Forcing people into a matchmade piece of content for story progression is questionable to begin with, but losing a good chunk of the story because you joined in the middle of the strike? That's just terrible. If you must put matchmaking into your story missions then disable join-in-progress, at least for people's first time through the story content.

  • Honestly Bungie has already shown that there is no reason they cannot create a "Normal (Private)" and "Normal (Matchmade)" option as needed. This should ALWAYS be an option for every difficulty. Made it default to the matchmade setting when you open the node, sure. But at least give us the option to elect to do an activity privately if we prefer. In the case of Sunless Cell there are actually two reasons. First is story content getting omitted if you are forced into a join-in-progress. The second is the for exploring/hunting fragments for the exotic intrinsic quest. In the later case forcing matchmaking just sets up conflict by having fireteam members potentially working at cross purposes. And the answer of "well just have a full fireteam" is a silly answer when we KNOW they have the ability to just allow a private setting, as they've already DONE IT on many activities now. Just make it standard for heck's sake. The community has only been asking for the ability to control matchmaking at all difficulties basically since the game launched.

  • This happened to me last night. I loaded in to the literal last phase of the boss and basically spoiled the entire experience. Had to run it back again but both teammates sped through it so I only found two fragments, hopefully 3rd time is the charm?

  • Agreed. Can you imagine some players 4 weeks from now trying to run the strike to get the fragments?? I know some people wait until most or all of the story quests are available before they even start the content. Or if they're newer players and are carching up? A lot of other people will have finished it already and will be looking to "do the usual" in strikes and blast through as fast as possible. I made a point of doing it today (and I could because I was finished act 2 for a change) once I saw the quest indicating we needed to get stuff in the strike. I thought it would be less frustrating to do while a lot of the player content was still working on it, too. It still took me 2 runs to get all the fragments. I did get transported too, and some of them were looking around as well. It just took one person....then you didn't know if you'd missed the area you needed a fragment from or not.

  • Honestly should add an option toggle that allows you to either matchmake into an in progress activity or start off fresh.

  • I did it solo by changing my System date to be able to load solo since I put content on Discord. And didn't want blueberries just running foward and giving me joining allies and not be able to find the taken ornament in it.

  • Join in progress needs a total overhaul. Many times it threw me into Rush down at the ending tower. How does that make sense?
