So are the dire taken mindless like the old taken
I remember in the new lore books the dire taken are conducting their own ritual for the new taken leader

As far as I am aware the only time before the dire taken existed, they would perform rituals when being controlled by some other being like oryx, quria or the witness and until now I didn’t really think they could even talk. While I always suspected the shrieks and growls could have been their own language but as it’s being showed in the book they seem to be gaining some of their will back and intelligence as they are begging for a new king and guide, and as far as I am aware the old taken were mindless husk’s. The new taken god also been asking for them to conduct rituals and not really controlling them. Maybe I am wrong and the dire taken are technically no different to normal taken as for if they can think on their own but as of lately the echoes have been giving mindless species the ability to think on their own.
Please correct me if I am wrong

2 RepliesFrom my understanding of the this season’s lore, the new taken have been leaderless for so long that they essentially ‘created’ a new taken god. Sure, the Witness controlled them in TFS but, they never had another Oryx like leader. Right now the Dread and Taken cry out for a new leader that something finally reached back to them. It’s possible that their will to have a new leader created one for them OR one of the Nine are using them. There was a lore tab where the Nine were talking and one was missing from their group.
