Destiny 2 Gameplay Design needs a drastic change (I am not even kidding)

Dear Guardians, I would like to share with you my overall frustration, thoughts and ideas I have regarding the Gameplay Design of Destiny 2 . I will do my best to be as brief as possible even if it is not easy without taking the time to explain... Happy reading! [u]1. Seasonal artifacts[/u] To be honest with you, the seasonal artifacts are a very big problem. This is an atrocious gameplay design. They are simply meta defining and they lock us with weapon types and subclasses for MONTHS (not days, weeks but MONTHS!!!). This is terribly frustrating... What if I don't want to play these weapons/subclasses in Destiny 2 content (such as Nightfalls? Raids?) What if I would like to play something else than the ARC subclass this season? Do you see many players playing Solar this season? Absolutely not because ARC is completely broken and there is no way you can compete with other subclasses in terms of overall damage/DPS/survivability. This is okay for a couple of days/weeks but after I am getting fed up and would like to have fun with other builds without falling behind the meta. --> The seasonal artifacts should be either removed or must not define a meta with very limited choices for months! How many additional months do we have to wait now until we get the new D2 explansion? [u]2. Weapons design[/u] (Another very frustrating topic). Destiny 2 is all about Weapons and the time you invest to get them with the right perks combination. Unfortunately there is nothing regarding the overall customization. Why don't we have a system where you can invest time on your lovely weapons to unlock new skins, new optics, custom attachments based on time/kills/difficulty, etc... Call of Duty and Battlefield are amazing games for weapons customization. We can have a "Trial" with many challenges to overcome. If we succeed, we get a reward to enhance/upgrade our weapon. Also, we could even have another system to invest time by playing activities to add specific spells to our weapons (lifesteal, bleeding, poison, etc...) Why do we have to rely on the Season Artifact weapons to play against Champions? Why don't we have a system where we can infuse our beloved weapons to give them anti-champion capabilities instead? We could use The Relic for example where we infuse the [u]Weapon Mag[/u] with an Ascendant Alloy to give extra capabilities. We can also use Banshee-44 to infuse the weapons temporarily (let's say a couple of hours) in exchange of resources we would have to farm. I am so sick of spending hours/days/weeks farming weapons and leaving them in the vault without touching them anymore because of the sunsetting system and seasonal artifacts. Over the past 7-8 years, we have enough weapons. Just give us the possibility to invest more time on what we already have. [u]3. Destiny 2 content[/u] Over the years, you guys have provided a very big amount of amazing content. But why did you decide to trash everything? Why are all the seasonal events vaulted? Why don't we have a system where they are all playable again following a daily rotation (for example)? This could be a good opportunity to have fun, bring back all the old weapons and putting a system in place to enhance/upgrade them and make them up to date (in exchange to additional resources collected from these activities). [u]4. Raids[/u] Destiny 2 could be so much better if every player could access and play the full content. The raids are too restrictive. They must be more INCLUSIVE! Why don't we have LFG/matchmaking raids where the difficulty is drastically reduced so everyone can have fun without having a clan, a microphone and following a stressful strategy? Let's make it more accessible for casual players. Leave the Expert Weapons to a harder difficulty where you need to be on voice and have "shiny weapons" for the hardest raid difficulty. This is just a non sense. I would love to have fun with other 5 casual guardians, with 0 stress and 0 microphone and being able to play the raid content and farm the "normal weapons". [u]5. Training place / Firing Range / Practice[/u] Why don't we have at The Tower a place where we can practice our DPS and try builds? How is this possible to miss this? Destiny 2 is also all about builds and optimizations. Why cannot we have simulations to practice our DPS, survivability against elites, improving our overall skills. Same thing for PVP: why we don't have a system (Firing Range) to practice our AIM? This is just a nonsense... For the DPS practice, we can have a built-in gauge to tell us how much we dealt on the practice boss. [u]6. Exotics & Cosmetics [/u] I am a bit fan of cosmetics and I like spending time on making my character look good. This is frustrating when you don't have an exotic armor which cannot match an existing set. Let's give us the possibility to transmog the exotic armors to an existing legendary set as well. So we have both options. Another frustration... why cannot we apply shaders to exotic weapons? Who decided this? Same with legendary weapons, we should be able to infuse them to give them anti-champion capabilities for all of them. [u]Conclusion[/u] Destiny 2 is not in a good state in terms of player base and needs something fresh. I wanted to share with you a few topics I had in mind to improve the overall player experience. The new armor sets coming is a good thing but I really expect drastic changes regarding to the D2 vaulted content + weapons design. STOP having a system where everything becomes rubbish!!!! (weapons, content, builds, subclasses, etc.)

  • For me, I agree somewhat on the artifact and the raid while the rest I completely agree. For the artifact, part of the problem on that locking weapons part is all due to Champs. They have been a terrible addition ever since 2019 and Anti-Barrier causes the worst issue in which projectile weapons become a dud when they pass through something like a Phalanx/Hydra shield or a Hobgoblin when they crouch to go immune. As for the raids part, it use to be more inclusive... And then Bungie decided to shove their heads up their rear and put minus power onto even the base version of the raid. This was in part because some people out there kept complaining the game is too easy. Those same people seem to ignore the fact that Master difficulty exists for those raids and could have just stuck to that. -5 power is considered a 50% difficulty increase with the game's power system and they buffed bosses like Riven to have even more health when they added the new system. What is the point of a power system if we aren't allowed to get stronger than the activity? We use to be able to go up to 20 power over so even if it was a year 1 raid like Leviathan it wouldn't have changed in difficulty compared to Salvation's edge in a sense for the power system (by that I mean you would be able to go 20 power over. I'm not saying Leviathan and Salvation's are the same difficulty). Combine power disabled/minus power, the champ system, and majority of weapons being quite bad while most of the good weapons are locked behind said end game content like raids, that is where problems begin. It's literally become Gjallarhorn or kick all over again. Not to mention every single one is KWTD or kick which causes a lot of people to be detured from wanting to do raids and other content. One of the reasons why the player base dropped lower than Curse of Osiris right before Salvation's Edge even came out.

  • Completely agree with the artifact, there are sometimes where i will just switch games because i cant use the weapons or subclass thats i want for an activity, i get having to add challenge and be somewhat tactical but there has to be a different way to do it. Like this episode, if you aren't using bolt charge your just missing out on DPS, every subclass should have something to make them have high potential in endgame, i mean we have whole subclasses just extinct. And than you have the champion mods which is high annoyingly to me, i think every weapon should be able to equip a champion mod at a certain rank of a weapon, maybe like level 50 or something. If you like the artifact and the way it makes the game thats fine, but me personally i just wont play if its telling me to use stuff i dont like.

  • *trigger warning* Quest Objective: get 200 kills with swords against taken I completely agree with this, and I’ll add that there should not be any quests mandating specific weapon types, I usually just turn off the game when I see that.

  • Another beautiful part. Did you know all the weapons that aren't crafted are sunsetted in a way and aren't even a year old? Examples: season of the wish weapons can't be enhanced. Aren't even a year old But I pull out my exalted truth adept from season of defiance. Enhanceble. What? It's confusing that within a year, most of my vault is already sunset and its not even that old

    • Some of these complaints are nuanced and somewhat of a preference compared to others. In regards to raids, I agree, but Bungie has used the same formula for Raids since VoG in D1. Sure they introduce something different from time to time. Salvations Edge was the best designed Raid since Last Wish. But raids are too…linear. An overhaul of Bungie approach to designing them would be interesting. Doubt that will happen though.

        • Don't forget, Invisible walls NEED TO BE REDONE ENTIRELY. DON'T give the character the ability to jump 50 foot up and put the wall at 46 foot. DON'T give us the ability to glide for 500 meters if you put invisible walls at 20 meters.. MAKE DESTINATION AREAS MORE POPULATED. Christ Almighty saying you are an MMO when destiny often has empty areas? The pale heart should have been AMAZING for the "public activity" once the story was complete.

You can choose to play whatever you want and succeed just fine at any level activity with any build with the exception of trying to hit leaderboards on speed runs. Seasonal artifacts exist in order to shake up the meta; else everyone would simply be running the 'meta' for what exists when artifact doesn't exist....There will always be a meta. The artifact acts as something to shake it up so things don't get stale. [quote]Destiny 2 could be so much better if every player could access and play the full content[/quote] Every player can access and play all content, nothing is restricted so long as the players have purchased the required DLCs. Base raids are already easy, and there are some raids that are significantly easier than others, VOG easier than SE. DSC easier than VOTD....You don't need a mic for any non challenge/master raid. Heck, most 'farm' groups for [b]encounter [u]challenges[/u][/b] for VOG and GOS are no mic specific...thats how easy older raids have become.

            • Point 1 : nothing is forcing you to use the artifact mods or the subclasses tied to it. Every content in the game gets demolished by any subclass or weapon. Artifacts just make it stronger on some. But the game isnt balanced around the artifact. Point 4 : everybody has access to raids. Its just that a lot are too lazy to do them. Also its 2025 most people have a mic, and its not even requiered in any raid, you only need to listen basically. Lfg raids are often just 2-3 people talking and the rest just play.
