Is anyone else completely turned off by this Star Wars crossover?
I don’t know about you all, but I find the idea of building a whole DLC around a Star Wars sponsorship incredibly disappointing. I’m here to play Destiny not participate in a Disney themed event. Crossovers are one thing when they’re limited to cosmetics or small events, but centering an expansion around another franchise feels like the game is slowly losing its identity.
It’s starting to feel like Destiny is taking a page from Fortnite whoever pays enough gets to shape the game’s direction. And that’s not what made this universe special in the first place. We’ve got decades of rich lore, original characters, and complex storylines. Why are we sidelining all that for another company’s IP?
This just seems like a strange move, and to me, it cheapens the experience. Curious to hear what others think are you excited about this Star Wars content, or do you feel like it’s a step in the wrong direction?

I love the Wild West new frontier feel. But if it ends up just lazily inserting Star Wars stuff into the game then I will dislike it.
-
For me, it’s not that I’m turned off by the fact it Star Wars. I like Star Wars. It’s that I don’t want the expansions to become gimmicky cash grabs. I don’t want Season of the Plunder to become an expansion. In 2026’s expansion pack I don’t want a Robocop themed expansion where the guardians are in old town Detroit fighting OCP factions. When I play Destiny it’s because I want to play in the Destiny universe and enjoy Destiny stories.

Money -Mr. Crabs

Bungie: we want to bring mystery back to Destiny Also Bungie: *themes an entire expansion around the most familiar IP on the planet Star Wars is iconic, sure. This just feels silly though.

The game is over... I don't blame them on capitalizing on the opportunity.

The game's population is low at the moment, and they need some type of hype to try to bring some people back.
-
No, nobody else is turned off. It’s a great idea. I like the fact that they are trying out new ways of storytelling.
-
My problem with this is that it pulls me out of the world. It's like seeing a Cylon Raider in The Expanse. When I'm absorbed in a strike or such, seeing a Stormtrooper jus breaks the immersion. I think I'll be putting the game down very soon. New expansions will cost more money for less content? And lean heavily on cosmetic crossover? Each to their own & I hope pll enjoy what comes next, but I don't think I'll be here for it.
-
This is whatever will suck money from this mega nerd player base. Sad
-
Why are we sidelining all that for another company’s IP?
Because Destiny 2 is dying rapidly. Because the OG Devs who were passionate about this franchise & it's growth have been replaced by DEI Suits. Because player retention is non-existent. Because MONEY.

Well star wars is the greatest fictional universe to exist so I don't quite mind.
-
It’s a destiny story with destiny characters the expansion is inspired by Star Wars what’s so hard for people to understand?
-
I absolutely f*cking hate this.
-
Big L for me personally. I want destiny. Not Star Wars.
-
This is what might happen, destiny is turning into star wars. just saying ;) They want more players, how to do it,turn the game into something that has a HUGE fanbase.
-
You people complaining about it are so friggin stupid and none of you read. It says it pays HOMAGE to Star Wars, not that it takes place IN Star Wars.
-
Edited by JD: 5/7/2025 7:30:26 AMNo it’s -blam!- awesome. Star Wars was literally the inspiration for Destiny. The story for renegades is a Destiny story not Star Wars. It just has a Star Wars visual theme. You act like Yoda is going to be guiding us lmao.
-
Why are you people insisting on not reading everything? So you can have something to whine about? THEY LITERALLY SAID IT'S AN HOMAGE. It's not actually Star Wars. It's a tribute.
-
I don’t think it’s going to be “we’re in Star Wars now” It looked like we’re chasing Cabal. Likely trying to break the Cabal Conclave’s hold on a frontier area. Star Wars inspired not directly Star Wars - similar to what we got with Halo in Into the Light. Let’s also not forget that Space Cowboy was the original theme for D1 and was the main theme for 2/3rds of Forsaken. Star Wars is the king of the genera

If I wanted to play a Star Wars video game, I would play a Star Wars video game.
-
It was one thing to have a little Star Wars cross over a while back with just some skins, but now we get even more skins randomly AND an entire expansion solely inspired or dedicated to Star Wars?? Can we chill out with the Star Wars stuff?? Not a fan of this and I’m not a fan of Star Wars either
-
It’s not a crossover. They specifically stated that this is a destiny story. They are just heavily leaning into the aesthetic inspiration of Star Wars. We are not playing a Star Wars story. We are playing a destiny story. They were very clear about this in the preview.
-
Im convinced this is a Sony play. Sony has huge deals with Disney and no shot Bungie would do this unprompted
-
I think it’s a fun crossover and a way to expand the universe. I never cared nor followed much the Destiny lore, but give me a space knight and a light saber and you can runaway with my wallet.

i don't really like star wars. i like destiny. when they said it was something inspired by all our pasts, i assumed they meant Halo. star wars is so lame.
