If homages are going to be a thing...
Should the community get to vote on the next one? Personally, I don't like starwars and I'm not getting the expansion. I'm also not upset at the homage it's just not for me. I would love to see a 40k homage expansion though. Getting a chainsword and a bolter would be awesome. However, should this starwars homage expansion be the only we ever get? Lightsabers and the new han solo blaster are basically direct copies from starwars. They're also really cool, but the more homage expansions we do... It could be a slippery slope.

1 ReplyNgl I doubt we'd ever get a Warhammer one. Games Workshop is INSANELY protective to the point FAN animations are off the table or you're at extreme risk.

2 RepliesCan't make everyone happy but can't deny that star wars is probably the most prominent Sci fi universe. I've only met a few people under 30 that actually enjoy star trek and warhammer 40k didn't really have a mainstream outlit. Space marine 2 came out in September, but no movies or TV shows, outside of that Amazon episode

They aren’t going to let the community vote on what they base a DLC on.. it has to fit into their narrative. Plus different IPs cost different amounts for royalties, so it would be bad business. And Star Wars not being your thing isn’t a reason to complain, it’s Destiny. They’ve loosely based things on Star Wars before and the universes are highly similar. Plus if there was a vote Star Wars would’ve won anyways

Edited by Candy: 5/13/2025 5:38:37 PMJust an FYI… a “ Homage “ is not a 1-1 licensed asset. They are using the word homage to downplay what is a collab or a complete IP import. Makes the DLC seem more Destiny than Star Wars even though they are using licensed SW assets to market it haha

Would it be cool to vote? Sure. WIll it ever happen? Of course not, but at least 40K is close enough in genre that it could happen. Also playing the slippery slope card after the announcement of ONE DLC like this after over a decade of the franchise seems like a bit much.

4 RepliesProblem with a community vote is if it requires a licence agreement they may be unable to get it. For example community votes 40k bungie fails to get an agreement they can't do stuff like 40k themed armour or weapons so it would have to be extremely loose homage and licence agreements cost money so it's not like they can get a stack ready.
