Don’t be fooled by Bungies advertising: Dark Matter is a puzzle gimmick, NOT new abilities.
The Dark Matter junk is a new puzzle gimmick Bungie is implementing in Edge of Fate - basically rotating platforms and becoming a ball to solve puzzles. But Bungie isn’t advertising this as a puzzle gimmick, no, they’re advertising this as “world abilities”, because you can damage enemies and move around as the ball.
Dark Matter is a PUZZLE GIMMICK, and nothing more. It’s the same as arc charges, solar crystals, every variant of the ball/crystal mechanic. It’s a solution to a puzzle. It is NOT a replacement for new abilities or new subclasses. But they’re trying to advertise it as if it is.
I can guarantee there will NEVER be a situation where becoming a ball is more valuable than just using your weapons/abilities or your sparrow. There is a 0% chance it does more damage than actual abilities/guns, and there is a 0% chance it is faster than a sparrow. There is, however, a 100% chance Bungie will implement narrow passageways where using the ball will be mandatory. Because it is a *puzzle gimmick* and not an ability.
Bungie is giving us no new abilities with Edge of Fate, no new aspects, no supers, melees, grenades, no new subclass. Don’t be fooled by their advertising, Dark Matter is a puzzle gimmick and NOT a replacement for new abilities. They’re giving us now new abilities but pretending this new puzzle gimmick *is* new abilities. Would you consider arc charges or the various crystals to be abilities? Dark Matter is in the same vein, just slightly more fleshed out.
