And you (Bungie) wonder why, among other reasons, people stopped playing this game more and more? Others and I told you a few years back that making exotics available to everyone easily will ruin the entire core gameplay loop of the exotic chase, the mystery of the game as well as the feeling of standing out from others.
Today, Destiny 2 isn't a loot shooter really anymore. It has become a -blam!--show of garbage (literally). We get crammed up with so many items that our Vaults are bursting from being full. Exotics don't feel unique anymore, even Legendaries are the new greens people don't want to manually dismantle anymore.
Because of a friend I am playing Destiny 1 again so he has a guide and company to experience what Destiny 1 was like (he never played it before). And it is honestly very sad how both of us, with completely different interests in how RPG systems should work both agree that, even after 8 years since the last update, Destiny 1 feels massively superior in how valuable loot is.
Just to sum it up again for all. In Destiny 1 legendaries and exotics are quite rare, even in the endgame. In Destiny 2 legendaries are the new greens, Exotics are the new blues.
And all of that for what? A chunk of the playerbase complaining they have bad luck in a game IP literally running on RNG systems? Because they don't felt their "time valued" or "items being kept away from them" or "I payed for this, where is my content"?
Bungie, you as a company, turned your target audience from a looter-shooter oriented crowd to a crybaby-infested, instant-gratification playerbase that never is happy (IRL those are also called Narcissists btw.). And as the saying goes, "you reap what you sow".
Destiny 2 is for many reasons in a horrible state right now. One of them being that nothing regarding gear has unique value anymore to the players.

Edited by Guardian,Archon Of Light: 5/18/2025 11:32:01 PMIt became worse when they replaced pinnacles with exotic engrams for Playlist rewards Now they clog up our inventory worse than blues used to Exotics have become more common than rares used to be when they existed

Edited by Ghostfire239: 5/21/2025 3:00:08 PMI agree, exotics being more rare would be a good change, however they also need to actually feel powerful (at least powerful in PvE). Majority of them often they feel like quirky gimmicks and not worth considering in any serious content. I’m not going to suddenly value exotics like fighting lion or sealed ahamkara grasps because they’re harder to get now. They’ll still extremely niche and generally uninteresting. Exotics need to be really powerful, or do something so unique that it’s worth chasing (for example Mask of Bakris, straight up changes your dodge to an almost teleportation styled ability). If they’re gonna be more rare they need to actually be worth the chase and that rarity.

You hit the nail right on the head. I stare at all of the loot in D2 and just say there is no value of any kind to any of this gear anymore. Cores and prisms raining out of the sky. Exotic materials being handout like candy on Halloween. Exotic and Legendary gear coming out of ur @-Hole. Also, why are we allowed to craft 5 out of 5 god roll weapons without having to do any grinding really at all? Why? Crafting is not bad; the problem is it's far too easy to do. The only things that still have some value are dungeon and raid exotics, but even these have issues because only a select few are actually good and worth trying to get. This game has become brain dead and boring because the game is too easy. God forbid there is any hard challenge in this game. That's actually worth conquering, don't forget that part.

Edited by Joulevette12: 5/20/2025 8:24:42 PMMeh I think the whole issue is that exotic period doesn't feel exotic at all let's be honest about it majority of these exotics are useless or outdated because Bungie continues to evolve the gameplay of the game and the exotics can't keep up and the list gets bigger every expansion, the seasonal artifact got way better perks then the exotics we getting.

Edited by Hugs: 5/18/2025 9:50:27 PM
"...[exotics] have lost all meaning."
Depends on your attitude. Really, I think what we have here is a common case of 'having too much-ism'. 1 Million dollars is insignificant in comparison to 1 Trillion dollars. I wonder if your mind would change if you were to consider deleting every exotic you currently have.

Exotics and legendaries were not rare there were plenty of legendary marks to buy stuff from vendors, 3 of coins became a thing to get guaranteed exotics . Raids had several guaranteed Exotic chests. Arms day for legendary weapons, xur for more exotics. Yeah year 1 D1 sure stuff was rare but that was more because everything new.
