Grinding feels like a waste with revamp coming

The rewards are just delivering zero dopamine when I know the devs are making most everything suck compared to the new systems and rewards in the next patch, especially armor. Everything armor is going down the drain to create a new grind for the new system. All time invested goes in the trash because their live service wants continually escalating power rewards. set bonuses, more slots, 200 points per stat with new bonuses past 100, and gear tiers Just all feels like a waste to grind for rewards that will go directly in the trash. And the grind systems in the story have gotten steadily more tedious. If the grinds weren't so heavy handed, I might still do a bit but the grind/reward ratio is just not motivating right now.

 • What ticks me off about this revamp is threefold: 1.) The first is that it fixes nothing, assuming there's even a problem in the first place. Bungie claims that every new armor set is "pointless" because of the stat system, but instead of making new armor that gives you a reason to want it beyond simple stats (or even beyond transmog), their answer is to... cosmetically change the stat system and release new armor that works exactly like the old armor, except with different names for the stats and an "overflow" stat boost that will become impossible to balance. This will result in reaching the same point we are today -- people will have the armor they need for their builds and new armor will become pointless because once you have the right stats, anything that doesn't fit those stats can't be utilized anymore. It will just take a few months, but it kicks the can down the road; something Bungie loves to pretend is that handing the problem to someone else "fixes" it. 2.) The second is that this is just "soft sunsetting." They were already doing this somewhat with reprised versions of weapons and FOMO-driven event weapon drops that would often powercreep the old version in some capacity. You can tell Bungie never really wanted to get rid of the concept of sunsetting and they've successfully been able to rebrand it as "reprisal" for awhile now. Armor isn't getting that same "courtesy." Every piece of your armor becomes obsolete once the update hits and they fully expect you to delete all/most of it that isn't being used to grind the new stuff. Once again, this is Bungie trying to sunset something while calling it something else, which leads me to... 3.) This is a huge slap in the face of the veteran players, but that's par for the course when it comes to Bungie. What they're actually mad about isn't that armor is "pointless to grind for," it's that veteran players don't have to grind for anything outside of transmog because they've been playing long enough to get enough armor to make any build they want to mess around with effectively. This is a way to force veteran players back onto the hamster wheel that they were able to successfully remove themselves from, and to me, that's the biggest kick in the teeth of all. To Bungie, you're never supposed to be able to get off that wheel, and in at least one aspect of the game, old players were able to. Not anymore. Get on that wheel, Guardian, at least for another year before this exact same scenario we have today returns and we do this dance all over again, anyway.
