Stop putting timers on everything...

Don't play salvations edge raid then... I've seen playthroughs, looks like a pain

I want meaningful mechanics. Like the boss is immune because there is a shield, this shield didn't come from nowhere.. its either innate (boss's ability), natural (a frikkin rock is in the way) or some device/mechanism is clearly causing the shielding and so... I want to shoot the boss but I cannot clearly because these things must be taken down. Immune for immune's sake just blows.. cause you are taken out of whatever adventure you are on and you know its just a puzzle/farm loop. So same with timers.. if there is a friggin bomb thats about to go off.. ok fine place it there. Enrage timer for no specific reason other than to make it impassable for solos and those wanting to use a different playstyle.. seems like you've coded against the player.. rather than coding a challenge for the guardian in the story. I admit its gonna be difficult to scale the damage.. or make it make sense... but thats the job.. thats how you can make great games. Sometimes it works out... the original Onslaught (after some tuning) became a great activity worthy of joining the core lists. It has been neglected too much in terms of rewards (as many have no need for those items).. but the activity itself even though making little sense with the adu and beaming to a ship temporarily works out balance-wise (I feel) to be very enjoyable.. you kinda need 2ish that know what they are doing.. and I think the pass rate is like 80-90% not 100%... so it just works out.. lets you basically use anything (in regular version). Anyway its tricky and I hope they can be thoughtful of the activities and personally want more of the everybody doing 6 or more guardian activities to showcase the season story and some cool loot. ...must say there are positive signs in there like ROTN in general with explorer solo and matchmade... I just hope this same concept keeps going and being built on.

The moment I see a timer in an activity I know I’m running that activity the absolute minimum number of times that I need to do it to get the loot I want. -
If you don’t use a timer, your meat will be over cooked.

Edited by Golden: 5/29/2025 9:23:15 PMBungies idea of difficulty is just Timers and making ads into Chris Kyle. Can we have some actual cool mechanics?

I'd be fine with timers if it weren't for the fact they keep nerfing us like 4 times over then buff the enemy just as much. Or in the case of COB for example, they didn't decide to stack modifiers on top of each other in an activity with escalating difficulty to the point of overkill and NO ONE is having fun. Modifiers like Bulwark and Sharpen and how you can't finish one without finishing the other, Ritual and Taken Ignitions, or like this week in COB, keep spawning those spikes under you like every 5 seconds against some bosses while you're in the ritual circle. And all the shriekers and moths everywhere certainly doesn't help in the "fun" aspect. Even more so when you're on controller because it's hard as hell to hit some moths thanks to them not having AA and their hit boxes being model accurate if not smaller. I'm sorry, but if modifiers like these practically force players to use a specific weapon like Arbalest (which almost no one uses) to work around/ negate the "challenge", or players are getting gunned down almost as quickly as they're spawning because of bs like that, no competent game developer would say that's balanced or fun. There's a HUGE difference between a challenge and what is clearly ideas from the shotgun method on a dart board. And just think, they're going to no doubt make the game even more bs come next season in most if not every way.

Only grandstanders like timers in the game. You can always go faster if you want.
-
timers suck. yup. artificial difficulty
-
DOWN WITH TIMERS!!
-
Agree needless stress
-
Yes, I hate them, too. If I play anything in the game and get to a timer, I usually continue and see if I can finish it. If I can't I quit and often don't play it again. I'm a solo player and I can't stand all the artificial difficulty stuff Bungie have forced into Destiny in the latest years. I haven't played Destiny 2 for awhile, and it is because of timers, potions/recipes, and all other time sinking stupid ideas Bungie have crammed into Destiny 2. They shoud instead have focused of making an interesting game, with interesting worlds to explore, fast paced action, interesting and intelligent stories, side stories, good loot, a game where you can sit down and play for half and hour and feel you have accomplished something. Now it is all about time sinking and incredible long and ardous missions you have to spend hours in. If you don't make it, you have to redo everything from start. I just don't bother anymore. I'll read up on the new release and see if it is worth it. I have supported Destiny from D1 day 1, bought all the expansions, but I think personally, that Destiny 2 in this state is in it's all time low.

Timers are generally fine - they are very few in number and are majority in endgame multiplayer-focused content. And of the activities that have timers, only some have timers that are actually impactful and stressful. There have been bad timers: Original Whetstone mission, original Vox Obscura (on Master), the sheer number of timers in Salvation’s Edge But those are generally small and are usually fixed
-
Timers are preferable to one shot bullet sponges imo. If i am expected to go fast, they probably won't make me have to shoot a 20min bullet sponge.
-
Yeah it sucks. Remember time trials in racing games? NEVER DID THEM. And get rid of the time related trophies too.
-
Yeah, not a fan of those either. I like to take my time in stuff.
Stop putting timers on everything...
? Timers aren't on everything.

Edited by ben: 5/29/2025 12:22:40 PMwhat exactly are you doing that has a timer? ultimatum is not a solo activity, dual destiny has an extremely generous timer and even if you beat it its worth the reward and is also not a solo activity. only thing i can think of are the featured weekly missions which are also pretty generous? I did master presage blind within the time limit... you dont have to do everything on the first try edit after seeing someone say master court of blades, fair enough but this is supposed to be a chaotic rush activity, and again you dont have to do everything on the first try, find a good loadout like geomags warlock or cuirass striker and get some competent teammates
-
The only timers that truly make me wanna not play the game are found in regular strikes.... the battleground strikes give you 5 second respawns but the regular strikes are 30 seconds too long! I mean I can understand if I were doing a Master but it's a regular strike.

Gotta go fast!!
-
Timers aren’t a bad idea - gives stuff more of a sense of urgency. The vast majority of timers are incredibly generous anyway

Gotta get faster.
