What role will crafted weapons have in the next expansion?
I don't want the effort I took to grind out all the patterns I have to essentially be worthless, will there be a way to bring crafted weapons up to the highest tier?

For now nothing but bungie did say they want to find a balance between crafting and tired weapons

I very much doubt it. Bungie does not want crafted weapons as the highest quality gear as it kills the grind / satisfaction of completing higher difficulty activities. I can see master raids and dungeons offering tier 4 and 5 gear with craftable raid weapons essentially falling into tier 3 (which is still great). I do wonder if old raids and dungeons will retroactively drop tiered gear as to keep a reason to continue playing them.
