In the build we were playing, some of the most powerful Aspects have had the number of Fragments they grant reduced to one. Specifically: Consecration, Feed the Void, Stylish Executioner and Knockout. I get that those have been dominant to the point of feeling like auto-includes, but historically whenever an Aspect has only had one Fragment it feels anemic in terms of build crafting. What's your take on that?
Response from Tyson Green (Destiny 2 Game Director):
(In the Spoiler----Too big for the Post)
Green: Yeah, I mean, it's always a push and pull with balance. In PvE, I tend to be pretty liberal about things being overpowered. Where I get on board with substantial changes to power is when players feel like they're being compelled to use a particular option. With Fragment slots, unfortunately it's a very binary thing where you either have one or you have two, and that's a huge delta between those alternatives. Ideally, you'd grab the damage numbers and dial them differently, but sometimes we do a big swing in our balancing to assess what the impact is. Does it correct the behavior that we were seeing in-game, and if so did it create a new worst behavior? Sometimes we walk those back. We've walked decisions back in the past where we haven't been happy with the result.
The Issue with this stance should be very clear.
Feed the Void - Knockout - Stylish Executioner ARE ALL survivability aspects
This game has been balanced around those aspects.
The Sandbox has been balanced around these aspects.
Most aspects & suviability exotics got nerfed hard or are just not great to use.
Look at Banner of War titan.
Look at Lorely Splendor
Look at how they nerfed knockout & then reverted that change....
Look at Graviton Forfeit
Look at Cyrtarache's Facade
Why?
Because some of what i listed were the dominant choices.
Where I get on board with substantial changes to power is when players feel like they're being compelled to use a particular option
Barely any new aspects are added year after year.
----Stasis hasn't gotten any new aspects.
----The Light subclasses barely changed at all (adding some that enhanced what you were already doing)
So there's no changes to gameplay or nothing new for people to use/ Swap off to.
*No aspects to replace Feed the Void, Knockout, Banner of War, Electrostatic mind, ETC.
-Therefore limiting build creativity & viability
-why does warlock have so many melee exotics & yet the only melee build we have is on prismatic warlock??? Give us some melee aspects, C'MON!
Barely any new exotics are added/change.
The exotics that do ship are forgettable, bad, & niche
-Blastweave Striders (Which is still unusable & impractical)
-Balance of Power
-Khepri's Sting
-Promethium Spur
-Willful Ignorance
So many more examples
Or how about redundancy
-Speakers sight VS Boots of the Assembler (same functionality)
-Wormgod's caress vs Synthos vs Willful Ignornace (overlapping functionality)
-Fallen sunstar VS crown of tempests (literally the same exotic lol)
Too many cases of redundancy, too many exotics that are just lesser counterparts of the former
.......
3/9 of the exotics (not counting the class item) from Final Shape are impractical gimmicks.
& There are very little exotic options to begin with, that could even compete with Aspects due to shortsighted game design.
HARDLY anything changes in this game.
And the moment it does & people flock to it, it immediately gets nerfed & we're back in the stale stagnant meta we just left.
Osmiomancy Class item.
Knockout Titan
Banner of War titan
Combination Blow Hunter
+ 2-3 years worth of nerfs
TLDR:
Because nothing gets added to this game (nothing worthwhile), The same old stuff is still viable & usable & to Bungie that is a problem.....Because they don't add good stuff to the game to get people to switch off the stuff that Bungie doesn't like or deems 'too dominant'....because for us, it's out of necessity
Nerfing the fragment slots doesn't do anything when those aspects are necessary for a lot of content & viable builds in the game.
- It just hurts the game.
- and it hurts a lot of buildcrafting
Nerfs Limit Creativity
Buffs expand it.
Sometimes we walk those back. We've walked decisions back in the past where we haven't been happy with the result
So reverse this NOW.
This is the wrong direction & the wrong mindset to take with this game.

Quote is in the spoiler - Highlighted section is what i'll be discussing
Re: Prismatic Subclass Tuning - Fragments
During our hands-on preview for Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate, we shared an early look at Prismatic tuning planned for Destiny 2 Update 9.0.0.
This tuning pass reduced the number of Fragments that could be placed on various Aspects, as we've found the Prismatic subclasses have been a bit hot since release. Certain Prismatic builds have increased damage output and survivability to a point where some challenges can feel trivial, and bringing everything else up to Prismatic's level wouldn't help to solve this issue in a healthy manner. We see this conversation about "power creep" frequently, which is why we take time to tune things up or down during release timelines; this gives us an opportunity to reign in outliers when new content is coming online.
While we're still planning an overall tuning pass for Prismatic for a future date, featuring buffs alongside other changes, we'll be changing our approach for The Edge of Fate a bit in response to your feedback.
Aspects that were originally planned to be reduced to 1 fragment slot will remain at 2. We feel this is a good middle ground where some of the more potent Aspects are being tuned down, but not too much. Of course, we'll be playtesting this change internally before The Edge of Fate launch as well to make sure it's the right decision.
Here's the list of Aspects per class and planned changes to Fragment slots:
Titan
- Consecration 3 -> 2 (reverted from 1)
- Knockout remains at 2 (reverted from 1)
Hunter
- Stylish Executioner remains at 2 (reverted from 1)
- Ascension 3 -> 2
- Winter’s Shroud 3 -> 2
Warlock
- Feed the Void remains at 2 (reverted from 1)
- Hellion 3-> 2
- Bleak Watcher 3 -> 2
With many changes coming to our stat system, gear tiering, and armor 3.0, we still see Prismatic as an incredible option for the ad-clearing or boss-DPS focused players among you. We're looking forward to seeing how you experiment with Prismatic and alternate subclasses at launch. As always, we'll be watching your feedback once the changes go live.
So we're just going to nerf Fragment slots REGARDLESS?
Prismatic Fragments are NOT the issue here
Some of these fragments are borderline fun/useless
"While transcendent Ability final blows explode" + 10 intellect
Like with this change NOBODY will be using this fragment, it was just there for the fun of it.
Nobody will be using the Finisher Fragment, as its just a fun/useless eye-candy fragment.
The only thing you're doing with this change is making the game LESS FUN to play.
That is ALL you're doing with this change.
INSTEAD: go make more aspects
Go make pure subclasses better - they need the help that they should've gotten 2-3 years ago.
You made good headway with the arc subclass this episode NOW DO IT FOR THE REST.
Nerfing fragment slots DOES NOTHING but make YOUR GAME less fun to play & less interactive.
Nerfing Fragment slots does NOT change the under-performance of lack luster designed aspects like:
- weavewalk,
-frostpulse,
-2/4 of Arc titan's kit
-and plenty more...
You want people to swap off of prismatic? Do your job and develop the other subclasses that you HEAVILY nerfed in the past.
You want more early feedback?:
Give Pure subclasses 3 aspects to choose from
Give Pure subclasses 5 fragments to choose from
ADD more aspects to pure subclasses!!!
ADD STUFF to the game
Buff the pure subclass exotics
LITERALLY DO ANYTHING MAN.
Just not this....

Edited by TripleF73: 6/5/2025 4:51:57 PMAnother point I want you to address with this stupid decision Bungie. I have 93 -blam!--ing loadouts. 30 on my characters and the other 63 on DIM. Approximately half of them are Prismatic builds. So you now expect me to -blam!- about changing 43 builds to accommodate your asinine decision in reducing the fragments on the aspects? The more time I spend -blam!--ing about is less time playing. A lot of my Destiny playtime since TFS is not actually playing the -blam!- game, it’s pissing about making and testing builds. No -blam!--ing wonder the casuals left. And now you’re doubling down, making people like me say, “F**k it, I’m done!!” Apart from my other complaints on here and elsewhere about EoF, this realisation of having to spend hours messing about with my builds, has made me realise that you truly don’t give a flying f**k about this game or your community. If you did you wouldn’t waste our precious time with this 🐂 💩 decision and its moronic consequences on your player base. Hope springs eternal that Sony guts you as a lesson for killing the golden goose that was Destiny. GFY Bungie.
