Bungie's Ban Process & Appeal

I never thought for a second I'd have to make a post like this, but here we are. Today, my wife was greeted with a ban in your game. Of course, no reasoning as to why or what prompted the matter. Nothing. Just a message outlining that the years invested into this game, the money, everything... is gone. She's devastated, to say the least, and I'm just blown away by the whole situation. And as a husband, it hurts to see my wife hurt. I really don't know what to say. I know players here, Bungie representatives included, will jump on this post and say "Bungie doesn't discuss bans" and "Your wife shouldn't have cheated" or whatever., and that's fine. But I'm in a unique position to know that my wife doesn't cheat, as I quite literally game beside her and work on her PC. And the fact that Bungie will "one strike" an account without any sort of feedback is pretty heartless. My wife has invested a LOT of time in this game (she's Top 900 for active triumph score...something she's extremely proud of) and Bungie doesn't even say, "Hey...this account that has THOUSANDS of hours of regular game time...there's a SINGLE suspicious date/activity here...let's put this account on notice that any other suspicious entries will warrant a ban.". Nope. Nothing like that. Just ban. Of course she'll appeal...but even then that system is terrible. She doesn't even know what could have caused the ban in the first place. She's played sporadically the past month or so, and her last "session" was a week ago when she helped me grind Gambit. So this leads us to believe bans are issued WAY AFTER the fact of the potential transgression, which makes it even harder to appeal as we don't even know the date the supposed infraction took place. Just really sucks Bungie. Truly. Really really sucks. EDIT: Feel free to troll or roast me or whatever. I'm 99.9% sure that this will do nothing. But for the 0.1% chance something does happen..it's worth it. UPDATE: Insight was provided to the infraction, which was for violation of ToS at the end of March 2025. Although evidence was shared reflecting zero participation of individual engagement during the violation, the punishment is pending appeal. Sucks, but that's way the cookie crumbles sometimes. Appreciate all who helped me find the proper channels to share the evidence. Eyes up.

  • I believe Bungie is cautious with bans. Though I am sure things happen and people are banned unjustly, they have nothing to gain from banning innocent players. My opinion: you / she probably were rightly banned. That said, I think bans need to come with clear communication. Radio silence causes confusion and muddies the waters. Give cheaters no slack, and ban them, then clearly explain why they were banned. At the very least, their help desk would be less cluttered with requests, at the end of the day.

Saturday April 26, 2025 trial report = It was a very strange day in Trials for you and your team :) You played 2-on-2 matches, 4 matches in a row with the same teams, then 4 times in a row with the same team. It smells like win trading :), all the matches end 5/0 or 5/1. Network manipulation is prohibited, so if the VPN that created this came from your wife, that's probably the reason for the ban, in my opinion. But at no point is this a normal playlist ;) I have 14,400 Trials matches as you can see and I've never seen this, except with players who manipulate the network to win :), and making sure you die or break the KD to go unnoticed doesn't change anything... this is not a normal playlist!!! and after that, the same day in same playlist you play with 2 cheaterz xd https://crucible.report/report/3/4611686018535695113 = 25kd last 10 matchs, Several matches with KD above 50 with active SBMM xd https://trials.report/report/2/4611686018465727939 = Same for the third player on your team, 0.80 to 5 KD all at once... so if it's not your wife, you should also be banned just for that day because you 100% played with cheaters. and the ninja don't talk to me about humiliation because I'm coming out of the cheaterz trials report please, just take care of them rather than giving me a free forum ban

      • Did you play on her account? did she share her account with a friend who did - cuz unless she hard spins, no one reports in PVE or kicks someone at the end of activities - probably pvp related. Looking at that trials history she suddly goes from a .70lifetime to slaying with a ximmer loadout with Immenence and Cloudstrike isn't a good look even winning a 2v3. Those Radiant cliff matches look way out of band compared to the rest of her match history in terms of weapon usage, accuracy, loadout choice. If everything is truly above board; hope she gets it appealed.

        • My brother if you are as deep in the game as you clearly are you know the pitfalls. Top x% players for playlists will be win trading, net limiting, hard cheating etc. You or your wife on a similar status account will always be at risk if you are on the fireteam. And you will be if you are matching for the smallest most obscure triumphs and elo spots in playlists. If you see something too good to be true…it’s not true.

        • Lol this whole situation is proper shady. To be honest I wouldn't have tried to act semi innocent and blast it out on here. Leading to people uncovering stats and facts like some kind of forum Columbo/Miss Marple syndicate. Probably best to just take the situation on the chin mate.

          • Bungie will never ban players, which get reported many times, but those players have thousands of hours in Crucible. In my opinion, they SHOULD ban those players. They are not reported for nothing.

            • Sorry to hear about the situation and hope it gets resolved. Your frustrations are understood imo and hope the appeal process goes well. Personally have had ban restrictions put against me specifically for gambit due to unwanted disconnect due to internet issue that I have no control over. Since then I try to avoid gambit and or pvp entirely due to my poor rural internet, and no isp available at all, even starlink took 2 years wait to get approval in the beta program. It sucks too as I am sort of a collector and or completionist and am sometimes needing to go into these modes where I know I'm at risk due to these outlying factors, such as gambit and or trials gear. Eyes up guardian 🍻🫡

              • Bungie sucks at banning properly. They love to ban legit players. For example aegis got banned a while ago but luckily he is relatively prominent within the community so it got more attention. Maybe post on twitter ? Even in PvP I have heard of legit players getting banned likely due to mass reports or the person reviewing them is such a burger that they can’t tell a good player from a cheater.

              • I am sorry for your loss but I agree with another poster that this is the perfect time to walk away. The story is pretty much wrapped up and this game is straight up toxic now. Toxic players, toxic developer. This game is not going to last forever so may as well cut your loss' now. Probably take all of this as a learning lesson and stay away from online games. I only do bounties and play patrol when I am bored. I stay away from the other stuff.

              • NGL, obviously sucks to lose an account you spent that much time on. On the other hand, it’s probably a blessing in disguise, although it does not seem that way right now. There’s many more deserving games than this rotting corpse of a franchise.

                • the way they treat their customers in this way is disgusting and sadly quite common. i dont think its just a bungie thing though, i think its common throughout the gaming industry in general.

                    • I had a friend visit from Switzerland & when he was here we got hit with lockdown so he was in a hotel for nearly 3 weeks waiting to fly home. Asked how I was filling up time, told him destiny, he was intrigued & despite having not gamed in about 50 years he jumped in, all in, he bought a series X, all the dlcs, silver, played about 18 hours a day just unlocking stuff - guys nearly 75 - fell for the game in a big way. Spent near £750 but loved it. Flew home eventually & of course still played daily for maybe 4-5 days then got hit with a permanent ban. No reason given. He was devasted & didn't have a clue why all his time invested & money spent was simply taken away. He appealed, months passed, no reply. He never touched PvP, he never touched endgame, he literally did patrols, seasonal events & campaigns. The only possible thing we could guess it was, was possibly the account recovery thing as it was around the time bungie made a big song & dance about stopping it, & he played in 2 countries close together in time, there's no other explanation. He was absolutely gutted as he simply couldn't play anymore. He tried to log in every 3-4 months for a few years & eventually sold his Xbox, a gamer was lost. He died last year, still not knowing what or why.

                    • As I don’t know the situation or people involved, please regard the following as speculation rather than casting aspersions against any individuals: It has been stated in the past that Bungie reserve the right to ban not only cheaters themselves but those who group with them, although it is admittedly unclear how stringently this is applied. Hypothetically speaking if your wife has on multiple occasions run Activities with another player who was cheating, and either didn’t realize something was going or perhaps thought something might have been strange but assumed it was due to lag or some other issue, there is the possibility she may have been flagged for benefitting from someone else’s cheating and failing to report it. One should hope that Bungie are especially careful when issuing bans of this nature, targeting those who routinely group with blatant cheats over those who may end up in two or three fireteams with someone who uses more subtle forms of cheating which may more easily go unnoticed in Activities with higher play counts (6v6 Crucible, Raids), however the devs naturally keep such policies a bit open-ended to discourage players from trying to game the system. Whatever the situation, hopefully you get more information to clarify what happened and things get resolved in a reasonable and fair manner, whatever form that may take. (΄◉◞౪◟◉`)

I definitely feel bad for your wife and situation. Even more so because I've grinded this game obsessively for many years, so I understand, truly. I'd lose it if I lost all access to my favorite hobby and hard earned D2 accomplishments. So here's to hoping you get enough replies and support that it gets Bungie's attention. I really hope they realize that they went completely overboard and show some sympathy and leniency. On a positive note, Edge of Fate is basically resetting everything anyway. Your wife could just start over since that's pretty much what everyone is being forced to do. I realize that won't bring back raid exotics and other lost treasures, but you'd be surprised how quick new treasures will pile up. But seriously, I hope she gets everything back.

                      • Try making your post in the help section. They look at those more often than the regular feedback/gameplay. Maybe there you could get help from Bungie on the matter.

Do you mean Moffie? As JP and king seem to be more active recently(aka not banned). If so march 22nd(sus behavior) & the account has win trading in the past as well. Honestly it looks like some one else played her account. As at the time they were using cloudstrike(which they have never used before in PvP) in trials and ONLY 1 kill was not a crit likely a lightning strike kill so no they never missed, over the course of all the games that weekend. Looks like you got your answer on why, and sorry to say that its also permanent as well. The win trading deff looks like it was done by her own hand though.
I have my own reservations on what exactly is going on. As you & JP have been playing for along time and are not stupid. So lets drop it and move on.
• Without knowing her account name, there was 1 person in your gambit farming team that had LOTS of involvement with win-trading/network manipulation from 2020-2021 in Trials. If this was her account, then it could be the reason for the ban.
