Edited by ACROCANTHUS: 6/19/2025 5:21:35 PMI don't know if I have a favorite. I like folk metal/Gothic metal with clean vocals a lot. (Harpy by Blackbriar is a song that recently came out that I've listened to a lot) Electric swing is good as well. Southern Gothic and dark country come up a lot in my playlist. Reach is a great swedish rock band that dips into a lot of different styles. I listen to a lot of folk as well. It's not a genre, but for a dude, a lot of my favorite songs are sapphic love ballads. I have no musical talent whatsoever, if I could pick an instrument to be good at, I'd go with a chello or violin. I have a soft spot for them in genres you wouldn't expect to hear them in.

If there's at least an instrument being played i'll probably enjoy it, not a big fan of eletronic music. My favorite genre is noisy rock like QOTSA and Mastodon, but lately I've been listening to a lot of jrock and mpb. I play guitar/bass nowadays, used to sing and play drums but adult life forced me out of it. Small house and angry neighbors. Back when the first Rock Band came out me and my friends rented the instruments and I discovered that I had good rhythm, so we made a band and played a few gigs during college.

Know what I think would've been a cool answer? If someone said they play the theremin or didgeridoo.

Techno (actual techno) Psy Trance

Shoegaze/Dream Pop is my favorite, and I play the piano/keyboard. I’m saving up for an electric guitar and some effect pedal right now, because I want to pick up another instrument

Edited by Upperclass Bum: 6/17/2025 10:52:44 PMI don't really care about genres; if my hearing holes like it, I like it. That said, I do still have favorites for preferred listening (in no particular order): Death metal, rap / hip hop, jungle / drum & bass, lofi instrumental hip hop, black metal, metalcore, deathcore, slam, jazz, ska, post metal and stuff from the Baroque period. I play guitar (just got a new one in fact after not playing for a minute). I play 'cause I like music and want to play music I like 🤷🏽♂️. Curious how old you are if you were a kid when introduced to The Human Abstract...

I only listen to Daily Wire podcasts and mommy ASMR

I dunno if I could pick a favorite genre or what it would even be. I play bass guitar tho. I’ve always thought it was really cool and I had the opportunity to learn from someone I really look up to. I really like being accompaniment too. I don’t care to be the spotlight

My favorite genre is really hard because I get 2-week phases of listening to the same genre (or the same band, like Deftones 276 times last week), but my usual go-to that I can't ever get away from is super cheesy power metal, preferably symphonic. I played trombone for all of high school and some of middle but I fell out of love with it in the last year and haven't really bothered keeping up with practice.

Don't know if I have a particular "favorite" genre. Often find myself bouncing around between classic rock, jazz, funk, bluegrass, house, etc. depending on the day or week. As far as instruments, I've played most clarinets and saxophones in some capacity or another, but probably spent the most time on bass clarinet and bari sax. As far as why, started on B♭ clarinet but then other roles kept needing to be filled so I started bouncing around.

A. I don't think I tend to favor a particular genre/style, but what's important is that I can find some sort of meaning or emotion in the song, which largely depends not on the song itself, but rather under the context I hear it. For a lot of songs, this can just depend on what my mood was that day. If hear a song a lot, and it doesn't get on my nerve, that often helps, because I may not get much from it most days, but there's a chance I'll hear it on a day where it just hits different, and that'll stick with me. Soundtracks do get a little bit of an advantage here, because it's much easier for me to find some sort of meaning or emotion from a story than a song, but this also comes with the notable asterisk that a lot of the time I can really only get invested in vocal songs. Part of this is out of necessity, since I mostly listen to music while walking to/from a destination, and I don't play my music very loud. It's easier to hear lyrics over instrumentals. Musicals and intro/credits themes do make up much of my playlist. B. I don't play an instrument, but if I did, it'd be a piano. Pianos are really perty, yes ma'am.

Ah good question; I like jazz but it’s a hard tie with electronic, I remember listening to Daft Punk when I was little and wanting to learn synthesizer. I play piano, started learning when I was 6. I also play clarinet, it’s been a hard road with that damned instrument but I still like it. Started learning because I wanted to be in band and it looked easier then French horn. I couldn’t have chosen worse.

A. Based on my playlist, probably most genres. Some more than others but I imagine I run the gamut for the most part. B. Alto and tenor saxophone; at least I used to. Couldn't really give a reason why.
