How is destiny a looter game? A lot of people are upset about the soft sunsetting and the reply is always something about "you don't want loot in a looter game?". I might just be spoiled, but destiny isn't a looter in my opinion. Borderlands is a looter, diablo, world of warcraft, and many other games. What do they have in common? Every group I engage drops 3-5 pieces of loot. Destiny does not drop that much loot ever. Destiny is more like a space magic game that has some loot. Not a looter.

Ya, the devs have been looting our 'wallets' for a long tine now
I might just be spoiled, but destiny isn't a looter in my opinion.
It's a good thing your opinion has little bearing on objective fact...
-
Your opinion is flawed.
-
destiny isn't a looter in my opinion.
Then your opinion is wrong. Destiny is, and has been, a looter shooter. Since 2014.
-
Destny is a looter shooter. You do repeatable activities for drops, which you use to optimize your set-up, which makes it easier to do those repeatable activities. You use gear to get better gear to make it easier to get better gear. Thats what a looter shooter is. Just because another game gives more stuff than Destiny doesn't change the fact that Destiny is a looter shooter.

How are we suppose to keep looting with no more vault space

Edited by Zoidberg: 6/26/2025 6:18:14 AMYou're right. The loot system in destiny is very stingy compared to other looters.
-
You forget, they don't mean looter as in YOU do the looting. No, you open your wallets and BUNGIE does the looting.

This community will run the franchise into the ground tryna make it a game it never was ... just so they "can be right"... This game never has been and never will be a looter shooter, and as long as ppl keep treating it as such, it will continue to be... The blind, leading the blind. As it has been for about 10 yrs now.

Edited by Rho Herculis: 6/26/2025 12:08:08 AMThe people that keep parroting the ”it’s a looter” argument completely dismiss the fact that this ten year old game is changing the way, how, and why people acquire stuff in the game. If this has always been a looter-shooter and how “looter-shooters” are supposed to work, that’s really not how the core of this ten year old “looter-shooter” used to work yesterday. It’s valid for long time players to be confused, frustrated, and questioning these changes.

I’ve been convinced for a while now that Destiny needs to shift away from the pure rng gear system. D2 launch was bad, but, I think if the vision of investing into our weapons through the mod system was allowed to evolve instead of doing a complete 180 back to the D1 system in Forsaken, we would be in a much better place right now.
-
Players a livid they sunseted instead of just giving players a D3 And i dont blame them one bit. Cheap -blam!- bullshit
-
Looter? I hardly know her!
Im in your walls
-
Pretty sure its a hybrid not just a looter, also think they wanted to push it more into the mmo section but I could be mixing it up with something else.
-
Because you chase loot. D2 is a hybrid of several different things.
-
WOW is a looter now? Crazy how that has changed.
-
I wouldn't necessarily say you're wrong. I've never considered destiny a true looter shooter in the way that borderlands, the division, or outriders are looter shooters. I would be interested to see the removal of the engram system (way overdue for a change) and replaced with a more traditional loot system.

Wasn't there a loot cave?
-
The loot drops are Pathetic! GM - Battlegrounds are absolute BS, they should drop twice as much, because they are twice as long and F annoying as all F Hell! Same goes for GM loot in general, they should have double loot drops at all times. Master and below can be stingy if they must. RNG is going to F you most of the anyways. Just a time sucking -blam!-.

Edited by ben: 6/26/2025 8:32:00 AMLooter games are generally any game that involves chasing loot and using it to improve your gameplay. Is that not destiny? Moving the goal posts to say "looters are games that involve chasing loot AND they have to drop A LOT of loot" doesn't change that destiny is ultimately a game where you get loot with increasing rarity from increasingly difficult activities to improve your gameplay. Destiny is a pretty lite looter shooter compared to games like borderlands and the division because I believe it is made for a much more casual audience. There is significantly less RNG and grinding in destiny and the loot is LESS of a driving force behind the game, those games feel like "loot for the sake of loot" to me which is why I dont really play them and I feel like why destiny has such a niche. Destiny is a lot more RPG and gameplay driven. But even though destiny isnt as much of a loot game it is still at the core of its identity.
-
What is being sunset? I don't pay attention to the TWIB/vidocs anymore.
-
I almost had to explain to you why you only get one drop but then I saw that you like diablo and world of warcraft and think that those games have good loot systems, opinion discarded.
-
Destiny isn't perfect on the loot system but at least when you get drops they are usually closer to something you'll want or is viable rather than doing something like Borderlands where they just throw a bunch of garbage on the ground and in the pile is like 1 good item. Throwing more garbage at the player isn't going to fix anything. Destiny also has the loot more directly imposed on you so they can't shower you constantly with loot unlike borderlands where you can just leave garbage on the ground.
-
What I can't wrap my head around are the people who insist that their 500 year old generic -blam!- boring meta loadout, should be viable forever, no matter how old the gear is, no matter what activities they do. Those people need to adapt, or leave.

The core of destiny was all about power fantasy. Being an unstoppable force, having witty banter with members of the fireteam, having epic battles with hoards of enemys, with with just enough power gains on any drops to see you stick playing. All I need to know about the core intent of Destiny is in the Law of the Jungle trailer, Directed by jon Favreu Its not about the loot, its more about when you decide your own goals, and when to stop throwing money at the screen.
