Proposal for Destiny 2: Sniper’s Window – A Season of Precision To: Bungie Development Team From: Myian Barnes(myian7@msn.com) Subject: Proposal for a New Destiny 2 Season Focused on Sniper Combat, Visual Perk Demonstration, and Expanded Gameplay Features Overview: This proposal outlines a future seasonal content expansion for Destiny 2 titled Season of the Sniper’s Horizon, focusing on precision-based combat with sniper rifles. The season will center around a gripping storyline, gameplay mechanics that promote long-range tactics, a visual analytics system to illustrate the effects of gear choices, and dynamic missions that push players to hone their sharpshooting skills. 1. Season Title: Season of the Sniper’s Horizon 2. Narrative Framework: Summary: Following the collapse of the Witness and the unraveling of the Darkness’ hold on the system, a mysterious signal is intercepted originating from deep within the Dreadnaught wreckage. A surviving Hive war strategist named S’Vaarn the Long Eye, disciple of Savathûn, has reawakened a forgotten Hive order known as The Hallowed Sights, fanatics -blam!- precision and foresight above brute force. S’Vaarn has weaponized ancient Hive relics to amplify long-range void sorcery, threatening to destroy Vanguard intelligence hubs using precision strikes. The Vanguard calls upon Guardians to infiltrate distant ruins, uncover the Hive’s cryptic technologies, and master the art of long-range warfare. 3. Seasonal Features: A. New Activity: “Silent Breach” (6-Player Matchmade Mode) Set across various abandoned orbital platforms and shattered Hive satellites. Teams must coordinate across vast zones to eliminate Hive sharpshooters, disable cursed lenses, and breach encrypted Hive servers. Mechanics include long sightlines, elevated terrain, and threat zones encouraging sniper gameplay. B. Seasonal Questline – “Through the Eye” Mission 1: Whisper from Afar Infiltrate a downed Warsat that’s become a Hive nest and recover S’Vaarn’s transmissions. Mission 2: Line of Dread Defend a Last City observatory from coordinated Hive sniper attacks. Introduces mechanics like wind shift, drop compensation, and timed kill zones. Mission 3: Optic Void Venture into a sub-dimension created by Hive lenses, where gravity and perspective warp to reflect long-range mastery. Mission 4: S’Vaarn’s Horizon A multi-phase boss battle in a shattered moon dome, where line-of-sight and stealth tactics dominate. 4. Sniper Combat Emphasis: New Weapon Perks: “Ghost Round”: The first precision hit in a mag fires an undetectable tracer that deals delayed burst damage. “Keen Edge”: Precision hits temporarily increase handling and flinch resistance. “Focus Breach”: Landing three rapid precision shots pierces shields for a short duration. New Exotic Sniper Rifle: Eye of Infinity Fires rounds that mark targets with a temporal distortion field. After 5 seconds, marked enemies explode if not killed, rewarding surgical timing. 5. Visual Analytics System – “Loadout Lens” A new UI system designed to visually demonstrate the effects of equipped: Weapon perks Armor mods Exotic catalysts Functionality: In the character screen or firing range, players can: Toggle a “Perk View” overlay that shows stats with and without perks. See real-time animations of how perks modify recoil, reload speed, precision accuracy, and elemental effects. Test different combinations in a sandbox-style holographic range. Example Visuals: “Rapid Hit” shows bar graphs changing dynamically during consecutive hits. “Dragonfly” triggers a controlled explosion visualization when critting a test dummy. Armor mods (e.g. sniper targeting mod) affect a simulated reticle to show aim assist radius expansion. 6. Cosmetic & Engagement Incentives: Season Pass Sniper Ornaments for beloved rifles like Izanagi’s Burden, Cloudstrike, and Succession. New Shader Line: "Thermal Lens," creating chromatic aberration and lens glare effects. Precision Bounties: New Triumphs tied to long-distance kills, headshots, and “one-bullet-clear” mini-events. Crucible Sniper Playlist: Weekly rotational mode with increased map distance, longer sightlines, and sniper ammo abundance. 7. Endgame & Longevity: Grandmaster Nightfall Modifier: “Hollow Vision” Adds fog-of-war mechanics that only clear when enemies are tagged with precision fire. Seasonal Dungeon: “The Focused Hollow” Set in a buried Hive observatory. Features mechanics like long-range crystal tethering, snipe-based puzzle solving, and a boss that teleports based on line-of-sight exposure. 8. Why This Season Matters: Destiny 2's gunplay has always set a gold standard, and this season would give much-needed spotlight to sniper rifles—an archetype often sidelined in PvE due to high risk and limited reward. By emphasizing thoughtful positioning, timing, and clarity, Sniper’s Horizon offers both a mechanical and philosophical shift—encouraging players to slow down, take aim, and master the battlefield from afar. Closing Thoughts: The Destiny universe thrives on its diversity of combat styles. A sniper-focused season balances out recent high-mobility melee and ability-centric metas, offering a new skill challenge while celebrating precision. The Loadout Lens UI addition also enhances player education and gear optimization, reducing the gap between casual and veteran players. Thank you for your ongoing commitment to evolving the Destiny experience. I welcome any feedback. Myian the Guardian

  • Considering the community absolutely hates any challenging content that requires them to use something other than their god roll crafted weapons that they got from a youtube video telling them it's good, this whole idea of theming an entire season around a single weapon archetype would absolutely kill a majority of the playerbase
