The Slow Fade of Power: How Constant Nerfs Sap the Soul of Destiny 2

Full disclosure-Player since D1 beta. Once a lightning-fast power fantasy, Destiny 2 now feels more like trudging through molasses in a dream where everything hits harder—but you don’t. The thrill of unleashing chaos, of crafting builds that made you feel like a walking supernova, has been steadily chipped away with each balance patch. Sure, developers aim for “fairness,” but when fairness comes at the cost of fun, everyone loses. The endless cycle of nerfs—be it to Supers, Exotics, or weapon archetypes—creates a meta that feels neutered and overly sanitized. Instead of rewarding creative playstyles, the sandbox now punishes anything that breaks through the grey sludge of mediocrity. It doesn’t feel like you’re optimizing anymore; it feels like you’re surviving. And then there's the pacing. What used to be adrenaline-fueled gunfights now drag on, bogged down by health-spongy enemies and mechanics that stretch encounters past the point of enjoyment. Seasons repeat themselves like a lukewarm sitcom—predictable, slow, and lacking the punch that once made Destiny 2 unforgettable. If excitement is what lured Guardians into the stars, boredom is now pulling them back down to Earth. Playing through the high-powered Destiny 1 sandbox recently has made this fact very apparent. Ps- why have I never been sent a feedback email? I'm certainly willing.

  • Do we just focus on the select few nerfs and conceive an opinion based on that? Like nothing else that was buffed, changed or the big difference stats will have on a huge amount of builds? -Prismatic loosing fragment slots will change almost nothing, it’ll still be the strongest subclass. -Devour nerf does almost nothing. Healing 65% of your total HP is still great, and the grenade regen now benefits from the “grenade stat” meaning even more regen. -Consecration/melee changes benefit those who don’t want to have to build 5-6+ buffs to do CRAZY amounts of damage(which seems to be almost everyone on these forums, since build crafting is such a foreign concept still🤷🏼)You’ll be able to run around with roaring flames and your throwing hammer and deal 150% more damage then before. The most minimal investment possible. Floor gets raised up, and the ceiling gets lowered. -Stasis Shatter nerf to unstops makes no sense, I’ll agree on that. -Geomags will be better, super regen at 100 stat will be identical, but past 100 it’ll be flat out better then it is now. -Hunter Dodge will still be as good, if not better than it is now. 70 stat investment for free melee is not a big issue. It’s a free refund for some of the best kit functioning melees in the game. -Storms keep becoming non-stackable, affects 1% of the 1%. So out of the “BIG” 7, I’ll say maybe 2 of these(Shatter and maxed consecration/melee investment) will end up being actual nerfs, while the other 5 can either be recouped, neglected or replaced with the same(but better) gear through stat investment.
