Should I purchase?
So I didn’t buy the expansion where you can mix subclasses and frankly I don’t really have time to play as much anymore. You know life and kids but I had been playing destiny since the house of wolves. My main question is where should I continue and is it worth buying the expansions.

So you've not played since D1 2015 hoW release? Er, the game has changed, and is probably not what you remember Destiny being. if you want to try it, D2 is free-to-play "New light experience", where you do get a bit of free content to evaluate the game. If you want to access expansions or seasonal Battle Passes later, you can buy them in-game or from the store. you basically missed the entire light Vs Dark story line.
