Raids are killing Destiny 2

Bungie has spent too much time and effort listening to the small but fanatic group of players who only play to do Raids A large majority of Destiny 2 players rarely do Raids. They do the weekly items plus Dungeons, strikes, Lost Sectors, Gambit and Crucible. This needs to stop. Bungie would have a lot more regular players in Destiny 2 if they spent more time on the Campaigns, making new maps for strikes, Gambit and Crucible.

  • Totally agree, most of the EoF money will have been spent on the raid whilst the majority of D2 players don't raid, catering to the minority is a poor decision by Bungie.

  • I agree a huge waste of resources, could make better content for more players

  •
players who only play to do Raids .
That's their "core" audience. People who log in one day a week, do 3 raid boss checkpoints, then log off. Replies are as expected. I used to defend "endgame" too, but got tired of friends/clanmates quitting and having to "find some friends" or "lfg". I haven't done Salvation's edge yet. I have all the exotics except Euphony and Conditional finality. Don't have a desire to "farm" lfg and the raid. Just like an alcoholic will never admit alcohol is killing them, bng (and it's defenders) will never admit codependency ("MMO social game") is killing (has killed) their game. All the people they told to "go play something else" have. They probably won't return.

  • I know your post will not be popular but I agree. To put it a bit more cynically: If you want more players the campaign should make people invested in the world, the strikes etc are what keeps them around willing to dive deeper and eventually try to raid. bungie forgot the first ignored the second and only made real effort for the less than 5% of people that raid (just guessing on percentage it is probably less).

Without raids tbh The game wouldnt have come that far lmao. And thats why they keep making those. A TON of players just come back for the raids, and they often stay to check the other content. Remove the raids, and these players will never come back. They also dont need to focus on gambit/strike etc...players because they are already there anyways. Maybe only focusing on casual activites will allow them to keep some players (mostly f2p btw since these kinds of activites are freem But it sure wont make new and old players come back to the game just because they saw "updated gambit or strikes" lmao. Also on the topic of campaigns... Its worthless, you play the campaign for what ? a few hours then you never ever go back. How is it supposed to make people stay ? You keep replaying shadowkeep, lightfall, final shape etc .. ? I doubt it. So spending months and millions of dollars only on content people will not play ever again after a few days is bad strategy.

    • Yeah, you're insane. Raids (and dungeons) have been the only worthwhile content in the game for years. You want to know what killed the game? Bungie moving the bulk of their studio off of D2 to work on other projects after BL came out. That's when they stopped making decent content for Crucible, stopped supporting strikes and gambit, stopped having even a semblance of decent writing, and increased the monetization to try and fund the whole damn studio.

    • If they stop producing new raids I would uninstall the next day. This game is all about „co op“ hanging out on your clan‘s discord channel having fun together and grinding Raids, Dungeons and GMs. Thats it. Nothing else to do.

I personally think if they could get the “Explore” mode in RotN to all the raids it would spike raid interaction. We had a good clan group that ran raids up until Salvations Edge but had a hard time getting people together for that to learn mechanics and such. Still haven’t run it. Personally I think the folks that lambast the game vocally and publicly because it doesn’t meet their hyper specific niche enjoyment/expectations is killing engagement. There is nothing but a negative discourse around everything post Final Shape even though all the episodes have had good weapons or systems…. and Edge of Fate is trying to bring system changes that folks have asked for over years… and it’s still nothing but negative.

      • I get what you are saying but... I kinda have to disagree. It's elitist community ruining stuff for people. Imo raids are best part this game has to offer. Some locations within raids are simply stunning, rewards are mostly great and engaging with mechanics and overcoming some hard challenge on master mode is probably most rewarding feeling this game has to offer. BUT it certainly lacks some kind of guidance and proper introduction to raids so other people could engage with this content. I'd totally get it if someone would try to hop on SE as first raid and getting completely disheartened to continue playing raids. Explorer mode would be welcome solution and could have great impact on how raids are perceived by majority. My point of course doesn't devalue yours - of course core playlists should expand but also let's not dramatize: we are getting ONE raid per year at this point so they are hardly the problem.

I have a certain amount of empathy with this post. The top mode in Destiny has always been the raid. It was the ultimate challenge for a team, and had the best rewards. But because of certain pressures from a certain section, they stopped being challenging and fun, to downright frustrating and a total ball ache. It went from clan members running raids regularly to the point where players are saying, " I've done it once, never again". And I think it's all because of some players selfish and arrogant attitude, who believe they are the only ones worthy of collecting the top end loot. Raids used to be a team event where 6 people could get through several layers of bosses with increasing difficulty, by helping each other and collectively claiming the loot. Those guardians who needed a bit of extra help could be given less mind challenging tasks, but were still a valuable asset to the team. So Bungie bowed down to the elites and from then on, it was up to everyone to play their part. Classic example being VoG, where there was a way to get the most experienced players to get teleported on the final boss stage. They squashed that idea so that less experienced or less confident players can be teleported and usually causes a wipe. Another crafty way by Bungie to make content more frustrating instead of challenging. Raids used to be an event for teams of 6, now they are an event for 6 individual players on the same team. Our clan just doesn't raid anymore.

      • Lack of aspirational content means: Players run out of goals Engagement drops off Community fragmentation Less social cohesion Economy stagnation Risk of becoming a “theme park with no rides” IE a shallow and hollow game. I do agree that they should spend more time on strikes, gambit, crucible, but not campaigns...Get more mileage from the afformentioned.

      • No this toxic community and players -blam!- to communicate or work to get with players and co-op that is what destroys destiny 2 that is what keeps destiny 2 from evolving into a better social MMO type of game.

        • No Elaboration: Just no, choosing to not find friends or lfg for a raid is personal choices you make. It's that simple, people do interact with the content to grind, it is repeatable. How many times are people going to play a mission like the final shape campaign? Raids can be done by anyone who desires as such. And raids have been part of the campaign Lore. So yeah, no Just because you don't interact with them doesn't mean that it's just for the elite. You just choose not to do it.
