One thing I’ve always hated in destiny is how little the enemy races win, especially when our gaurdian shows up. Other than the witness, I can’t think of an enemy that achieved some kind of victory against our gaurdian. Before us, the city went through huge losses at the battle of twilight gap and its worst defeat ever during the great disaster. But other than that when we go up against an enemy faction they usually get crushed into complete extinction. Just look at the house of devils, the red legion, crota’s brood, and literally all vex in sol. This is especially true of the fallen since i think we can all agree they are the weakest race or at least the pose the least threat to the city.
I feel like this just shouldn’t be a thing. When the enemy never wins and the protagonist just keeps getting stronger with random -blam!- power ups like the new matter spark mechanic, the conflict loses all of its steaks and weight. Looks like our gaurdian is getting even stronger AGAIN despite being the strongest thing in the universe. Looks like we’re going against a random band of fallen AGAIN, like they don’t know what happened to the last group of fallen that went up against our gaurdian🙄🤦♂️. Other sci-fi ips like Star Wars and Warhammer are nothing like that. When 2 factions go against each other it’s not just a landslide victory each time. The bad guys CAN win. And even when they lose it’s with the good guys taking big losses to achieve it. Just give the fallen a win once in a while, please. atp I might just hold off on even buying the expansion until I see the final mission because if it’s just us running around doing busywork and the fallen just are not a threat at ANYY point throught the campaign, then I probably won’t want to play that -blam!-. It’s just powerfantasy slop atp

Eh we lost once. The Red War. Arguably the worst defeat and loss post collapse.
-
The fallen are a bigger threat to us than we give them credit. They are an extremely long life species with enhanced strength, a culturally ingrained connection with tech and innovation, and a propensity for being able to turn nothing into something. The Eliksni were meant to be our dark reflections. Given the right resources or tools they can pose a massive threat. While they are not Paracausal like the Hive, Taken or Dread, and are not this overpowering martial force like the Cabal, Vex, or Scorn. The Fallen always find a way to be relevant lol

If we suffered a major loss, it would ruin the power fantasy. As well as nesscitate a gritier and more serious writing tone.
-
The Eliksni had two wins recently: once when the House of Light was accepted into the Last City at the end of Splicer and lastly was during Revenant where Eramis gained the power of the Echo and began leading her people back to Riis to reclaim their homeworld. Not every campaign has been a win for Humanity, usually we just scrape by narrowly where the "stakes have never been higher" in each subsequent storyline. Occasionally it's a pyrrhic victory such as Final Shape or a near complete loss as in Lightfall. Neither felt good from a narrative-to-gameplay perspective, but necessary for the story that Bungie wanted to tell. Personally, I believe that we don't need to have insane high-stake battles anymore each Expansion/Season/Episode/etc. Sometimes it's OK to help rebuild Humanity instead, such as clearing out nests of Hive on Earth to keep settlements safe, or finding ways to return the stolen planets/moons back. Perhaps some intrigue sprinkled in to solve mysteries, every second doesn't have to revolve around an immediate crisis.

Mfs really do forget the red war existed
-
NGL, after a tidal wave of people whining about us not being strong enough, it's very refreshing to read whining about us being too strong.
-
The did it with lightfall. The witness won and we lost when the stakes were highest. Massive let down, and a feels bad in a power fantasy. Cmon

The witness' win was actually a sacrifice imo... Just theatrics... So, I think now, can we save humanity... Imagine finding out that our allies species are pretty f'd up when it comes to humans... So, maybe we start seeing the carnage of the lost colonies... Can't really die, can't destroy pretty much anything, do we care enough about humanity??? -
Well, in real life, the dark reigns supreme, and the side of light, get's the floor wiped with them, so very badly, since the beginning of time, so I guess reflecting it in the game, would only make people more unhappy, and put them off. Got to sell you the dream, because people are so suppressed in real life. Sorry if I sound negative, but that's just how it is.
