TL;DR: Instead of storing multiple rolls of the same weapon, allow players to "consume" new drops to unlock their perks permanently on a single "master" version of that weapon stored in the Enclave or Collections. This would save immense Vault space and centralize all our hard-earned rolls.
Hello everyone,
For a while now, I've been thinking about a significant issue that affects many dedicated players: weapon hoarding and the constant struggle with Vault space. I believe there's a more elegant solution than simply adding more Vault space, one that could integrate with existing systems like the Enclave.
The Core Problem: A Vault Full of Duplicates
Right now, if we like two different rolls of the same weapon, we have to keep two separate copies. If you're a serious player who farms for multiple perk combinations for different activities, your Vault fills up incredibly fast. Why should we need five copies of a single weapon, taking up five valuable slots, when we could have a single, adaptable version?
The Proposed Solution: A Unified Weapon System
Imagine this: the first time you obtain a new weapon, it appears in the Enclave or your Collections tab as a "master" version. From that point on, every subsequent drop of that same weapon could be "consumed" or "infused" into this master version. This action would permanently unlock the perks from the consumed weapon, adding them to the available perk pools on the master version.
All of your stats, like the kill tracker, would be tied to this single master weapon, preserving the history and effort you've invested.
Let's use an example: Farming the Cold Comfort rocket launcher.
1 - First Drop: You get a roll with Smart Drift Control, High-Velocity Rounds, Reconstruiction, and Collective Action. This is a decent roll, so you keep it. The "master" Cold Comfort is now available in your Enclave.
2 - Second Drop: This one comes with Quick Launch, Impact Casing, Reconstruiction, and Bait and Switch. This is the god roll you were looking for. Instead of keeping a second weapon, you "consume" this new drop.
3 - The Result: You now have one Cold Comfort in your Enclave. When you inspect it, you can select from the perks you've unlocked:
* Barrel: Smart Drift Control, Quick Launch
* Magazine: High-Velocity Rounds, Impact Casing
* Trait 1: Reconstruiction
* Trait 2: Collective Action, Bait and Switch
You could go to the Enclave or Collections, pull your master Cold Comfort, and mix and match any of the perks you have earned through gameplay. No more storing multiple copies.
Integration with Existing and Future Systems
This idea could seamlessly integrate with and enhance other parts of the game:
1 - Tiered Weapons: This system would work perfectly with the upcoming tiered weapon system. As you farm for and unlock different tiers of a weapon, their respective perks would be added to the master version's available perk pools. You could freely switch between Tier 1, 2, 3, etc., perks that you have unlocked.
2- Ritual Vendor Weapons: Remember how weapons from vendors like Zavala get more perks as you rank up? This system would naturally accommodate that, adding the new perks to your master weapon as you unlock them.
3 - Class Items & Ergo Sum: This isn't just for legendary weapons. Think about the new class items with two perk columns. Instead of hoarding 20 different class items with various combinations, you could have one master version and select the combination you need. The same logic applies to the new Exotic sword, Ergo Sum, allowing you to easily swap between the rolls you've acquired.
The Benefits
1 - Solves the Vault Space Crisis: This would fundamentally address the core reason for Vault clutter, rather than just temporarily alleviating it.
2 - Values the Player's Time: Every single drop would have value, as it could contribute to perfecting your master weapon.
3 - Centralizes Progress: All your unlocked perks and kill trackers would be in one place, creating a true history for each weapon in your arsenal.
4 - Creates a New Gameplay Loop: It would encourage players to continue farming for weapons even after getting a "god roll," with the goal of unlocking every possible perk combination.
I understand that implementing a system of this scale would be a significant technical challenge, given the sheer number of weapons in Destiny 2. However, I believe this approach would be a perfect and permanent solution to a long-standing problem. It would streamline our inventory, honor the time we invest in the grind, and make managing our arsenal a much more intuitive and rewarding experience

Weapon hoarding is a player's choice, the solution is to get rid of things. The vault space issue goes away naturally with personal management.
