Bungie has a weird obsession with trying to make Destiny 2 as pc gaming compatible as possible, and that’s just killing everything I love about the game.
As developers described the new “optional” navigation page, they flat out said it only “takes a few clicks” to navigate. Not a few button presses. This is after years of continual gradual changes that favor pc gaming over console, for a gaming company owned by a console developer.
Now I’m hearing that Kepler won’t even be added to the classic directory page with all its current eye appealing destination locations, versus a dry lifeless page of rectangles and boxes that’s devoid of any game immersion. It just doesn’t feel like destiny anymore, although the new page could be useful, I don’t want it as a permanent full replacement. It’s depressing and kills the vibe. Destiny is supposed to be beautiful, not a lifeless PC gamer optimized fantasy playground.
This is going from windows 7 to windows 8 all over again. Tile based UI just doesn’t work and it’s usually just ugly and depressing no matter how colorful it gets. And the fact bungie, console gaming company obsessed with PC compatibility, couldn’t even remember the massive flop of windows 8 is a bit concerning. Windows 10 works bc it combined both options and gave people the choice of using the old school desktop screen vs a tile based interface.
So bungie trying to force players to fully adopt their new navigation page, the windows 8 of game UI, by refusing to update the old directory is only going to backfire and cause players to leave. Bungie needs to get off their high horse and accept that beauty and systems that work and have worked for the last 7 plus years don’t need to radically changed and replaced. Enhanced maybe, but not sunset and replaced with a dry lifeless page that doesn’t feel like destiny anymore.

I feel the director is one of those little touches that adds to Destiny’s identity, and getting rid of it just won’t feel the same :/
-
agree that the maintenance team has been making the hamster wheel more and more blunt, less and less immersive we get the same loot as always but now there is usually some garbage seasonal gimmicks in the middle to increase the grind for the same amount of loot, usually a gimmick that stacks slot machines in a chain to get one actual reward

I'm not sure why Destiny wants to dilute it's identity by chasing a generic Fortnite with this Portal menu system. I don't think we're going to be able to recruit that player base over to Destiny just by changing how in-game navigation happens.
-
The thing is they are killing it because this isn't a destination and placing it on the director would only highlight how insignificant it really is.
-
director is ugly and disorganized anyway, both options could be better
-
Yep the portal looks like a mess already and ditching the director seems daft 🤷🏼♂️

This is such a unique and refreshing post, exposing some great concerns which are normally overlooked. Reading this has made me realise how much I've taken the director for granted, and will seriously miss it. I still can't come terms with the changes they made to the bounty and quest screens. I think they're trying to coerce us into forgetting what Destiny was like.

Of all the things.

Dude it’s a click away.
-
We seriously comparing clicks and button presses ? It may aswell be a button press, it makes no difference, controllers can have clickly buttons too. If anything, the director is more painful for controller players because you need to scroll the cursor all the way across the destination maps which takes way longer than just a menu. The base cursor sensitivity is also really slow on controller.

It’s not sunset lol. Some of you love that word but dint understand it.
-
My brother in christ its a menu How do you possibly have this much to complain about a MENU
-
It’s not going anywhere. I mean they mentioned this specifically in one the livestreams. It’s just not going to be the main hub of interaction. I think they will probably put an icon for Kepler on the Worlds map eventually.
-
Seems like they want to make the game smaller not bigger...and that's sad indeed...what's the quote players must become comfortable not owning their games...
-
You'd think this is a no Brainer.

Edited by xbroggiex: 7/4/2025 10:34:56 PMHonestly, the portal could work as the new main menu for Destiny but I doubt Bungie will bother putting in the effort to genuinely make it good. There is a ton of potential ideas to make it look really cool while also incorporating the director as a sub menu but again Bungie is lazy. Its like "lets have the Call of Duty menu" but with none of the nice visual features it includes it looks awful with a static art background instead of an ingame render of your character or some scene.

It does raise question when renegades comes our where’s Kepler going to go
