D2 vet ramble - long

Without a shadow of a doubt, Edge of Fate will kill the game. It's systematic changes, which seem to also be it's only selling point, are simply put too broad, too negative, and outright untested, as proven by the last 'TWID'. There, it is mentioned that PvP won't be getting any updates until they see the dust settle on the stat system, because they didn't know what it would look like in reality. On top of this, the system oddly decides to shelve Exotic armor, omega of the most focal points of buildcrafting in general. Starting with armor, Bungie has very oddly given us pretty exact values on how stats will spread going into Edge of Fate, so despite the strange claim that they dont know how the stats will look in gameplay, the community has already deduced what we're working with anyways. Effectively speaking, only one stat will ever reach 200, and your second highest will be 125, then 100. This is ignoring Exotic armor, which new drops will all be equivalent to Tier 2, locking their stat pools to being shorter than higher tier legendaries. AKA, something like the new titan hammer gauntlets can be worse than legendary ones thanks to the new stat rework, meaning that a higher melee stat grants higher damage. On the topic of the stat rework, Bungie has sought to remove mandatory stats, while in the same breathe adding a weapon stat, which when at 200, grants a passive, stacking 45% damage increase. This would, of course, also be your only 200 stat, unless you farmed super spikey armor pre - Edge of Fate. Not to mention that any Hunter wanting to use Gambler's dodge the same way now has a mandatory 70 melee stat investment. In fact, with no melee points, Gambler's dodge is literally movement and nothing else. Then you get to the next big issue, that horrific season boost thing. It is, and pretty close to the definition, insane to think that I'm going to rearing armor sooner than every two years. To put into perspective, under the new tiring system, you should be using Bungie approved and newly released gear for a season, and those weapons and armor are directly 10%-15% better than literally everything else. You are being asked to grind for 8 slots of gear again, that will be shiny and function better than all of your old things, than having the same ones put in front of you, exactly six months later, and what you JUST earned joins the old pile. Content. The Content. Or the lack thereof, absolutely nothing has been shown. They are begging us to accept running a shorter campaign 3 times. The only world activity they've shown must've been graced by Osiris himself, because on stream as they were talking about how rewarding the world is, they got three tokens and a blue. The Portal is probably the best concept ever to be ruined. A streamline for new players to know where to go, and the first thing they show off as part of the power climb are Empire Hunts and Savathuns Spire. We get to do the same content for no loot, only power, infusion fodder, numbers. Not to mention the exclusion of raids, the combined changes above now remove Adept loot, Master Raid and Dungeon content, and will not be applying most of the changes listed to their loot pools, barring armor of course. The most damaging to the game really is the lack of a new Strike. The gall to say this is comparable to Rise of Iron, a DLC that brought in multiple new stikes, and remodeled multiple more. Cycling back on exotics, we are only getting one exotic armor per class, and from what we know, no more than 5 exotic weapons, including the raid's. There are no other DLC's that include so few unique tools, nor exclude one of the most core bits of Destiny. Not to mention the story, the last year was effectively made pointless, excluding the death of Fikrul, maybe. Heresy had one of the worst endings I've ever seen, and made the least sense from where they were at a single mission earlier. It ruined the pacing going into Edge of Fate, and sincerely made it feel like I should have quit the moment the Witness died. But that's just it. Much like Gambit, they have silently pushed strikes out of the door, replacing its Playlist with Vanguard Ops, and now those with the portal. Weirdly, Gambit was again confirmed to be dead in the water, even though nothing has really changed since Witch Queen. And now they have started giving out, rather easily disproven, excuses to make no change to PvP, even as they add a stat that will alter all TTKs. We are moving, yet again, into uncharted waters on Bungie's behalf. We are receiving less for it. We are being put on stricter timers, and given less room to play with. All in all, I think its just my time to quit. I've sunk 9k hours into d2, got all 70 titles, flawlessed just about every raid, and even got a day 1(even if it was RoN). I have combed over 99.99% of this game's lifetime content, and it is truly an utter shame that I can never see roughly 50% of that, likely ever again. I am hopeful things will change, but Edge of Fate is the nail in my guardians coffin. Thanks if you read that wall. It was scrawled in blood.
