The Nine

Not sure if it had been explicitly stated before in lore but The Nine are technically fourth dimensional beings. The Nine originally were the 9 missing crew members of the Exodus Green. So this means Bungie is building this narrative around the notion that Time is the fourth dimension. Now in real science we believe Time is one of many higher possible dimensions. But this will explain how those 9 human beings went from 3 dimensional beings to somehow being the “spirits” of the solar system. They’re just fourth dimensional now. For folks who have seen The Expanse, think about how the show ended with the Ring Entities being able to move through every atom in our universe. Time is but a moment and for these 4 dimensional beings malleable.

  • Currently, we live in a 4th dimensional Universe with 3 spatial and 1 Temporal dimension. When we are discussing 4 Dimensional beings, we are treating it as though there is a 4th Spatial dimension, often inhabiting the same space as a temporal Dimension, allowing these 4th dimensional beings to travel along time like one would a Spatial access. Time Machines are still 3 spacial dimension objects because while they may be able to move along time, they are still subjected to the contents of time itself, forced to interact with the access, unlike a 4th dimensional being. As a result, the Vex are still considered 3 dimensional despite their temporal hijinks. Albeit, you have to ask if the vex outside of the Vault of Glass are truly temporal, as it seems most of their temporal Hijinks are related to Vex Simulations which have multiple different instances of a single event happening at a given time, say, the Raid upon the Vault of Glass itself. Which then leads to situations like Saint where we have to ask if he is real or not, because he is from a different temporal moment within a Vex Simulation, but does that Vex Simulation make him real. It’s almost like a parallel reality. I’m really confused about the Vexs ability to manipulate time and what not.
