Before I start, I want to preface this feedback by saying I'm not particularly fond of crafting. It's not a system I want to engage with anymore, though i used to enjoy it, sometime after Final Shape's release I began to disengage with the red-border checklist chase and coversely, really loved chasing down Ergo sum and the class items, they were both new, unique, and encouraged me to experiment with different builds when I didn't get the roll I was looking for. However, I fully undertsand why so many players perfer crafting over the RNG loot chase, either because players dont wish to engage with the grind as its not fun to them or more simply, just dont have the time to invest into it.
As for the the new tiered loot system, I'm excited to sink my teeth into it, I do have my reservations on it which I wont get into here, but I am excited to be lost in the sauce of Destiny again while having aspirational loot to grind towards all within a tangible progression system.
With that being said, I dont understand why crafting isn't going to be implemented with tiered loot. Tier 2 weapons are equivalent to crafted weapons in the live game, an eventaul guarantee of a weaker weapon sounds fair alongside the not-entirely guaranteed RNG drops of their better variants. From a player perspective I dont know why Bungie has to 'pick a side' on this, for a lack of a better term, the players that do craft weapons can still progress their power to engage with challenge customisation while having stronger variants of their weapons drop, but, with the saftey net of knowing they already have their desired rolls. At the same time, I can completely ignore red-border drops because I enjoy the RNG loot chase and also know that I wouldn't be satisfied with just a tier 2 no matter how good the weapons are in and of themselves. It seems strange from the player side of the Destiny fence to leave behind a system that is clearly so important to so many players.
It's possible its a tech restriction, and knowing Destiny that isn't unlikely, though I think it would be worth the development time. I can also understand the argument of information overload and/or confusion for newer players. Here's what would happen; Ontop of tiered loot, those tiered weapons can sometimes drop with a red-border (that has its own currency), those red-borders A) are part of a different system outside of the portal, B) are used on a specific planet, and C) require new players to play the opening mission of a 3 year old expansion to access it oh god Witch Queen is THAT old. Adding a separate enclave instance to the portal sounds like it would solve the issue, however, it would require a new tutorial added to the portal specific enclave, and god are tutorials annoying to design, and streamlining its access with the portal would further erode at the novelty of the director, which in-part makes Destiny feel the way it does (also a topic for another discussion). These being the only issues I can think of as an outside viewer of Destiny's development, I'm positive there are more.
Either way, I don't see a world in which the cons of maintaining crafting touch on the loss that would be its removal. To reiterate, I don't care about crafting at all, but I know that it means a lot to the players who dont value the loot chase as much as I do. And to add to that, I have a feeling that if this new tiered loot system worked in harmony with the saftey net of crafting, to me that would only enrich the crafting loot chase as higher tier drops are seen as a bonus, not the point. If those players get to experience even a fraction of what I love in Destiny then its absolutely worth it.
I don't see any reason to tarnish their experience just to reinvigorate the experience of players like me, both players can be nurtured here and in no way would it harm the Destiny experience.

Post final shape has been a kick in the face to people like myself that enjoyed crafting. Bungie has pretty much abandoned crafting because so many people complained into oblivion about it “ruining the loot grind”. I would not be surprised if the new raid or destination weapons aren’t craftable. Which sucks because bungie stopped making seasonal weapons craftable and all the raids in the game currently have their loot craftable now.
