I want to personally nominate Death Stranding 2: on the beach for Game of the year.

Not even a joke. Massive improvements to the original formula of the game including a more MgSV like combat. -blam!- A !Kojma Cooked. Please change my mind you miserable freaks, I am a poor little helpless fanboy.

Gameplay wise it's better than the first but it's not resonating with me as much.
Part of it is the world feeling smaller. Part of it is the fact everyone wants to join the Chiral network so you're almost always on grid and when you aren't you're not off for long. Part of it is that the cast is expanded and characters are just kinda paraded for exposition dumps then relegated to the sidelines. (It also feels very "Hey, guys! Look at my cool celebrity friends!"... they feel more like a photo gallery than characters) A HUGE part of it is because so much of the first game was built around your bond with BB. You were constantly interacting with her whether it be to calm her down or checking on her in a safehouse. Now it's one animation no matter what you do so little point to it. I understand why you're not interacting with Lou but there's no one to pick up the slack and feel a connection with. Characters don't so much interact with Sam as talk at him. Sam doean't feel like he has such a strong motivation this time around. In the first game he was trying to find Amelie but here he's just kinda goin' along because it beats being depressed. The mystery surrounding Cliff's pursuit of Sam was a major reveal. The connection to Neil felt like some rewrites had to be made so we could have another Cliff figure, but the segments don't make a whole lot of sense. Neil was a porter, not a soldier. He probably did some fighting, sure (like Sam does) but why the skeleton commandos? And finally, in the same vein, the game feels like it cherry picks lore from the first game and just rewrites other parts. Timefall clearly ended at the end of the first, but now it's back? The message of found family is kinda throw out the window. Also Amelie went off to her own beach and cut herself off from everyone because that was the only way to save everyone. Meaningless sacrifice though, 'cause now there's a new extinction entity.
• I only have a vague sense of time and don't even know what came out this year. Ender Magnolia was this year, I think. That'd probably get my vote. Though, Kirby Air Riders should be coming out this year, too. That also has a decent chance of taking #1 for me.
