There is nothing fun about platforming as a ball of energy

The final mission was a slog. Horrible in every way. I don't know who finds this fun. I remember when Destiny was about space magic and slaying, not turning into a little ball a million times. This is truly an awful, awful campaign because of Matter Farts.

  • There’s a reason people play games like Destiny. Tight FPS combat, good gunplay, and satisfying moment-to-moment action. That’s the core loop. That’s what brings players back. So when the devs decide to shove in some gimmicky side mechanic that has nothing to do with that core, it ends up feeling like a chore. Case in point: this new Metroid-style electric ball transformation. It moves fast, but it's annoying to control, disorienting for a lot of players, and even causes motion sickness for some. The entrances are hard to find, and you’re usually stuck solving some tedious puzzle that feels like it was designed to waste as much time as possible for the least possible dev investment. The whole thing pulls you away from what the game actually does well. If people wanted to roll around solving maze puzzles, they’d go play Metroid. Most of us boot up Destiny because we want to shoot aliens in the face, not get locked into a side mechanic that derails the experience. Trying new things is fine, but not when it drags focus away from the actual genre. Nobody asked for this, and it doesn’t make the game better. It just adds filler to pad out a content drop. If your core gameplay is strong, build on that. Don’t bury it under genre-hopping experiments that few people enjoy.

    • Yeah I like the campaign mission and story for the most part,The mattermorph and relocater cannon mechanics were fine but matterspark got annoying very quickly and was really overused.

    • Wouldn't be so bad if the jumps always done the same thing. The final ball platform bit is so bugged it's laughable

      100% the reason I can't and won't pay for the campaign. It's stomach churning and causes dizziness. And NOT FUN to use. Terrible mechanic embedded throughout the campaign according to what I have read. The supposed fix is on the 29th. I'm waiting to see what happens.... quite frankly speaking, the odds of making it an effective fix aren't good.

    • 100% AGREE - and the message mission where you have to platform to stupid tiny platforms in the middle of a fight is rediculaous... one tony miss and you have to do the whole d**n mission encounter again.. I have been boofed off into space sooo many times by a random bounce when landing from the left launcher - it randonly , halt the time, does not catch you in the metal wall.. bouncing to the left and off into space by stupid rng i SOOO reget getting this and giving ungie another chance... my bad choice i guess on a more general note... red war FELT like i was the survivor of the solar system.. since then it feels more and more like im Either a mercenary.. or a puppet.,.. neither have ANY of the feeling of being a true here.... drifters sarcastic use of calling me "hero" all the time... is really what it feels like.. sarcastic.

    • I wonder if they have anybody on the team whose job it is to say “ NO!!! That is a dumb idea”. Having a single No member on the team. Could prevent a lot of these dumb decisions. They need to hire from the community people who are unbiased and willing to challenge every single idea so the good ones get filtered.

    • I enjoyed some of the puzzles. Separate and apart from that, the puzzles are not what I come to Destiny 2 for, so I can fully appreciate the people who didn't enjoy the puzzles. In truth, even having enjoyed them, I'm not looking forward to repeating them three times on each of my characters, and I hope Bungie won't double down on the platforming and puzzle solving for future... whatever these are. I enjoyed the experiment, lots of people didn't, I wouldn't miss Matterspark if it was gone. Destiny 2 does hero moments and climactic battles better than just about anyone, that's what I come to D2 for; Matterspark turned out to be a fun gimmick (for me), but I'm not here for the gimmicks.

    • Funny thing is the campaign is the ONLY thing I’ve enjoyed in this “update” (I can’t even bring myself to call this an expansion) The rest of the game is basically cooked lol Sony can’t take over soon enough.

    • Funny that MatterSpark became fun to me AFTER campaign. When you can turn into when you want with more damage, heal and amplifying. All it need is just a bit speed to be like sparrow for Kepler. And I would love it. But in story it is awful. Nothing interesting in puzzle where you don't need brain. Only seek where become ball to seek place where this ball need to go through. And that is with all Kepler abilities and "puzzles".

      • Try explaining this to Metroid fans. Those people absolutely love the platforming ball. But yes, requiring that in a game like this that never has was a bit much.
