I've never had any intention of playing Marathon.

Edited by Kiro - 13: 7/29/2025 1:06:11 PMNo, its just they expected marathon open beta to be in full swing by now with the release not that far off. Knowing full well due to blunders by leadership that they were no longer capable of giving 100% too 2 AAA titles. So they made the decision to draw back on Destiny 2 so Marathon could get better support. Then draw focus back to Destiny 2 once marathon was in a "stable" state. But then the "plagiarism will make you god" fiasco happened, ruining Bungie's time tables. I think its deserved. Poor leadership(to the point of acting in bad faith), neglecting their only source of revenue, & betraying the fans. All self inflicted wounds.

They want out, but the shareholders are preventing them. So making the players leave so that the game doesn't look profitable enough to keep working on. That is my guess.
-
I don't know, but I'm not playing Marathon nor Destiny 2. Congrats Bungie...!
-
That doesn't track Because failing to deliver, or ... "under delivering" to Subterranean degrees... with a live ten year product usually doesn't endear consumers to shift to an alternative which is a revival in name of a very old one.
-
Marathon is NOT an alternative to Destiny 2. Players leaving Destiny 2 won’t be joining Maraton.
-
Edited by Uncle Fester: 7/29/2025 1:27:46 AMMarathon is NOT getting off the ground. Most players would not go to Marathon after this hot mess. So the idea of breaking one franchise to enable the other is a broken idea. It was like when Diablo 3 promised all this content to fix what was wrong with the base game and at the last second locked behind a pay wall. Thousands of players just quit. They felt cheated and were cheated. Diablo 3 never recovered their player base and Blizz lost fans in a major way. To this day I will never again touch a Blizzard product! You break a loved franchise this bad it hurts on the bottom line and Bungie is going to feel the sting in their quarterly reports.
-
No they said clearly and likely rightly that Marathon isn't for destiny players. The thing they are going to learn is it isn't for many players at all but that is for another day. What Marathon has done is stole financial and human resources from Destiny to the point where to say it's on life support would be being greatly optimistic
-
Marathon isn’t going to happen. It’s already DOA.
-
They did this exact thing with Halo. They wanted out, Microsoft/Xbox wanted them to keep making Halo, and they were contractually obligated to. So what did they do? They made the final two games they had to, and changed everything they could, pushing the main player base away from the game. They learned all those years ago what to do and they're doing it again, this time to kill Destiny because they're bored of it, and push people to their next game.

Playing tells Bungie you like this 💩 - old
Honestly I hope it’s deliberate. Because the alternative is that they released this bug ridden mess thinking they’re on the right track and had done a good job. -
The only things that explains how Destiny 2 has been handled at least since Beyond Light. Mismanagement: Leadership is fumbling. Malice: Leadership is trying to kill Destiny.
-
I would say normally say no, because no one with any sense would expect Marathon to be what most Destiny players want. However, the people currently making the decisions in Destiny aren't the sharpest knives in the kindergarten classroom, so maybe.
-
Been saying this for years. Been banned from here for saying it in fact. Bungie doesn’t like it when you post on the forums that Matter, Gummy Dewds, Marathon were all horrible decisions that ruined Bungie and Destiny as a whole. They also don’t like it when you ask how much of Destiny is now being made with generative A.I.
-
It's a topic for discussion with all the negative changes. Please comment and share discourse.
Marathon isn’t targeting the same demographic. That’s a nonsensical business strategy to create a conspiracy around.
-
Absolutely not. Destiny wether you like it or not at the minute is Bungie’s main source of revenue, the studio simply wouldn’t survive without it. I know they’ve made some questionable choices of late, but to think for one second that they would sabotage their main source of income is the most dumb, stupid internet rumour stuff I’ve heard in a while.
-
No way i'm gonna play Marsthon, that looks like some game from 1990's.
-
Never heard of the principle of Hanlons Razor ?? "Never attribute to malice that which can adequately be explained by stupidity" Bungie just make stupid decisions. They will know, or have plenty of feedback for the right choice, but will do the worst version of the opposite just because they are Bungie. I run a small business and how they reach the decisions they make baffles me. Put the customer first, always give them what they want, and you're halfway to a succesful business.
-
Too bad for them I will never play marathon and have stopped playing Destiny lol
-
Yes. Seems like they want to move in a new direction, but Destiny has such a strong fan base. Even in spite of EOF. We don’t want any Marathon. We want a better Destiny.
-
Not me
-
Would be a terrible plan. More likely bungie no longer care about destiny so just did the dlc to try n make money until marathon is released so they can fully drop destiny for something more profitable. Could work if marathon was is a good position.
-
Sure, why not.
-
I’ve noticed that same line of reasoning/questioning across multiple posts and even platforms (such as within YouTube comments), however, that simply isn’t logical. According to Destiny Tracker, there are around 660K PvE players vs 222K Crucible (PvP) players. Obviously, some play both, but for the sake of argument, PvE player population is three to one versus PvP. It is doubtful the large PvE population base would migrate to Marathon. There is no way Bungie “wants” the franchise to fail, although poor decisions may make the argument academic.

I'll be astonished if Marathon doesn't flop. It won't be as bad as Concord, but Bungie should've just canceled it and focused on Destiny. Destiny could be a gold mine if treated right but Bungie insists on making all the wrong choices.
