I am a casual player. I absolutely looove the story campaign in EoF. 2 weeks in and I just finished the story campaign and the exotic quest. I am currently running the various quests scattered across the map that were unlocked after the campaign and am almost at light level 150.
I have been playing D2 since Forsaken. I purchased Forsaken and all expansions and seasonal content and have done so since then - in advance. Not this time. I DID buy the EoF expansion - but only on the day of release after playing the 1st mission. I DID NOT buy the additional stuff for the new year. After I finish the various quests, I will likely go back and get the 3 remaining Prismatic fragments I never got. After that? Well, I was hoping to be convinced to get the expansions for the rest of the year. Not so.
At this point I will move on and not put any more money into D2. There is no longer a good reason to spend any more money than that. PLUS I now have an extremely convincing argument for not even spending much more time in the game either. Want details?
The Details
Before EoF, every legendary dropped a core. Now it is maybe 1 in 5 or worse?! Fortunately, I had a lot built up, but that is getting used up. WTH?
Grinding for light level makes sense. Having to grind that and THEN start grinding for better armor? WTH?
Life is too short for crap like that. To have to grind, and grind, and grind, and ******* griiiind only to get to a light level high enough to then start grinding for armor better than just lvl 1 is utterly and colossally stupid. WTH?
An Idea
I don't like how just going up to legendary takes so much longer to kill anything and I die a lot more. Give me a reason to play the game at harder levels. If I CHOOSE to play the game on Mythic, I darn well should be seeing every armor piece drop with lvl 4 stats. Not just a couple of Light levels higher than what I would have gotten on an easier game level.
Armor dropping at lvl 1 when NOT playing the game at Legendary or harder levels makes perfect sense. ANY armor still dropping at lvl 1 if I choose to play at a harder game level is stupid. Why don't you actually REWARD my choice to play the game in a harder mode with better stat lvl armor and weapons - not just a paltry bump or 2 higher in light level than I would have gotten? WTH?
Let me infuse my new lvl 1 armor set (unless better ones drop) that I like with a lvl 2 armor set and bump the stats of my lvl 1 armor set up to lvl 2 stats! That would ALSO make it worth playing the harder content. That would respect my time. Who knows, maybe it would even enable me to play higher level content as well? What a concept!
"A few seconds later" Bungie: "Someone other than no-lifers and streamers enjoying end-game content?!? NO, we can't have that!"
Well guess what Bungie? You will get what you want by taking away any reasonable reward for playing the game. Why would anyone WASTE that much time for an experience like that? WTH?
A game that doesn't at least somewhat respect my time, as enjoyable as it (once was) and as good as the story line is this time around, is simply not worth it if it doesn't respect my playing experience. REWARD me for playing the game at harder levels!
The Bungie Code of Conduct states: "Be Kind and Treat Everyone with Respect". You no longer treat my time with respect.
Real things in real life matter. Real time spent in real life is respected - and rewarded. I live life. I have a family. I have a job. I play video games for FUN. It looks like D2 EoF past the actual story does not respect or reward my time. I can quickly see that it will no longer be FUN either. I like to play games that feel like I am doing WELL. I like to play a video game that RESPECTS the time I put into it.
I also play bass. I will happily spend more time working on getting better - to "get gud" on that because THAT activity actually RESPECTS and rewards my time. That said, I will miss my ONCE FUN shooter. I really and truly enjoyed D2. I would like to enjoy it again for a bit longer than just the campaign, but that will, apparently, no longer be possible. WTH?
Anyone have any good ideas for a substitute? Should I go try Tarkov instead? 🤣🤣🤣

Well said Warframe is pretty good. There is a grind but it's worthwhile AND you can trade with other players. Tarkov looks good. I keep meaning to pick it up after watching people I know throw down. I MAED A GAME With Zombies In it is awesome. It's fun. You know what you're getting from it while having a laugh Fallout 4 with mods like SS2, London, or Frost is great fun. Infection Free Zone is an interesting approach to settlement building and zombie survival. GTFO looks good. Haven't sunk my teeth into it yet Pheonix Point is like the original Xcom combined with new Xcom in the best possible ways. Total Annihilation is a blast if you can get your hands on it.

Dude, it's okay. Jump off the hamster wheel... Imagine all that free time... Rather than 8 weeks of grinding... It's one 15 minute video to recap where you were when you left the story... And one video on what's happening currently. Destiny became a game best watched. That's how I now... Play my own way.

No need to announce your departure this isn’t an airport .

Was originally released by Trion in 2014. It’s been revived.

DayZ, Rust, Borderlands series, GTA Online, Tarkov, Project Zomboid, 7 Days to Die are games i would recommend. Hope that helped!

No, it's you.

Edited by Afterburne: 7/29/2025 7:03:17 AMI would also add that since playing EoF the drop rate of Prime and Exotic Engrams has absolutely plummeted. Before EoF, I would have to clear them out after a few days of playing. Since EoF, I have had 1 Prime Engram drop and no Exotic engrams drop. WTH? I tried to run a Strike with match making and it dropped me at the end with no enemies. After wiping a couple of times and new random folks cycling through I bailed. It took me at least 3 tries to match make into a working instance of a strike. 🤦 If you are trying to bridge into a new way of playing the game you have GOT to keep things from the old at least functioning, cause there will shortly be very few left carrying the game while you try to get new folks playing the new GRIIIIIIIIND Yes, I am one voice, but this voice will no longer be providing any money in the future unless there are some DRASTIC changes. Maybe I just need to come to the realization that it is just simply time to move on. 🤷 Bungie. Please give me a good reason to continue playing this game because I am really stretching to find any at this point.

Says everything I want to say about what Bungie have done with Edge of Fate: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNhhWYWri-U

Well, to add even more insult. I just logged in and the banner for their new event has this: "Lock and Load Guardian. Your arsenal has never felt more powerful." Hmmm 🤔 That is not what I hear folks saying. 🙄

Thank you, I am glad I did not purchased the expansion.

You can try Souls game. Remnant 2 is a good start. Elden Ring, Bloodborne, Lies of P, whole series of Dark Souls, etc. There are many good games. R2 is shooter so it is where you can get acquainted with Souls. Souls game is not hard. You can make it easy with a bit of grind (Bungie take note) or challenge yourself with NG+++++++

Division 2 is good, cheap, plus good on grind

I agree with this. It doesn't feel great to bust one's butt and get Tier 1 loot, the Effort-to-Reward ratio of this expansion pack feels like dog. And no, this isn't about wanting handouts, it's about wanting to feel like my time is respected, like I get a commensurate reward for the effort I'm putting in, and with the current difficulty scaling of the game, and the number of treadmills we're being asked to run on, it doesn't feel that way. I gave up a lot of 68 stat gear because of the new Armor system, but I'm not getting much 68 stat armor from the content I'm running. I left a lot of my best weapons in the Vault for the benefit of getting higher scores with new weapons in activities, but I'm not getting better drops than the stuff I already have. We're doing the things Bungie wants us to do, but we're not getting what we want in return, at least it feels that way a lot of the time. Tier 3 difficulty should offer Tier 3 rewards, I don't think that's too controversial. Doing what feels like Tier 3 difficulty, and getting mid-roll 1s and 2s, isn't a fun Effort-to-Reward ratio, especially not when that gear is likely to be soft-sunset next Expansion. Bungie cranked up the difficulty for this Expansion, and they gave us great rewards to chase, but the rewards aren't always feeling like they're worth the chase. Technically we're getting *more* rewards than we ever have before, but so much of it is low Tier trash that it's not getting the dopamine firing. Re: Other games. The only three games I've played nearly as much as D2 are World of Warcraft, which I haven't touched in years, and the Nioh and Borderlands series. In my opinion Nioh has some of the best action combat in gaming; it's tough as nails, but rewarding, tons of loot, tons of build crafting, tons of personalization, and at its best it feels as fun to play as Super Mario 64. If you play Borderlands 3, make sure to try out The Butcher, it's my favorite gun in the franchise; it's a full auto shotgun with a perk that automatically reloads it as you shoot, it deletes rooms.

Do you remember that they advertised the portal as a hub for all kind of players. Solo Ops was said to be the option for a quick in and out if you only have a few minutes. Well, lost sectors are the most boring form of content and none of them explained that if you don’t grind your life out the portal makes no sense anyways. What casual player who has only a certain amount of time every once in a while will hop on and happily do Lost sectors? Not even starting with the grind yet.
-
Casual or not. D1 vet or not. The grind is way too much, and the reset every 6 months is the ultimate drive to play killer.
-
The most insulting thing is that all of these changes could work. The Portal could work if Bungie brought back stuff we haven't seen in awhile like Forges or Vex Offensive. But instead they chose stuff we've played only a year or two ago. The new Leveling System could work if we had methods to go through it faster, like daily featured activities that gave more or higher Power gear. But instead ever once in a while a random activity will drop one bonus reward. Resetting our Power could work if they did it once a year. But instead they're doing it every few months. There's potential here, but like everything else in the game Bungie is in denial as to what the issues are.

I love when players talk about Destiny like it’s their girl lol. Have fun playing whatever games you move onto!
-
There are plenty of great games out there, I uninstalled d2 shortly after downloading the whole 130 GB update, and I couldn't be happier, turns out that uninstalling it, was good for my emotional and mental health 🤣
-
Helldivers 2 if you are on xbox...August 26.
-
I bought Lego The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings for under $10. Lego are fun games.
want details
No

See you in a week. Uninstall for at least a month then Bungie will listen.
-
I recommend checking out Borderlands 4 when it comes out and Warframe. Borderlands 3 is not bad either if you can’t wait until 4.

Looks like you didn't even last 8 hours lmao

See u in Renegades wen Fomo kicks in.
