"Grinding" is the game now. It's not raid clears, getting better at PvP... no it's who can grind power, and then they'll take your power and new freshly ground gear and sunset it every few months. It's like climbing a mountain. You spend days climbing and camping just to enjoy a momentary view from the top. You better like climbing, because that's most of what mountain climbing is. I like a journey, but where I end up, I would like to live a while. I'll put up with a journey if I get to live I'm a better space, but my joy is not in the journey, it's in the better place. There's no longer a "better place" in Destiny, only a momentary view from the top, so you better enjoy climbing.
