Used to watch it a lot but stopped after highschool. Currently rewatching JoJos and enjoying it so far. I want to eventually watch bleach and one piece but that’s a lot of commitment I’m not ready for yet.

Edited by Sumpig-2: 8/10/2025 2:21:31 PMGrimgar: From the Ashes
Isekai fantasy where a group of people w/ amnesia are recruited to help fight monsters. The show is instead focused on the weaker leftovers that formed their own group. Just how they get around making a living and work together. Beautiful watercolor backgrounds and music. Quite grounded if anything.
Rokka: Braves of the Six Flowers
Fantasy hero group thing (I think there’s a theme here), six warriors recruited to defeat a demon lord(? Forget the classification I think it was just a really crafty powerful demon), however they get trapped in this area and discover there are actually seven supposed heroes in their group (I think one was late). Now it’s a mystery where they must figure out who the demon lord’s spy is before their window to defeat the demon lord is gone (there’s a miasma thing).
Both are one season shows that I enjoyed enough to check out the next light novel or two (later ones got harder to pirate) also both on Hulu when I watched, dunno bout now. Lets gets something less medieval/fantasy: Ergo Proxy
A real thinker, mainly cause there’s so much to think about as you wait for things to happen. Really more of a metaphor piece and character thing but still pretty interesting imo. Radiohead did the end song. Or rather Radiohead let them use Paranoid Android after seeing the script so that’s cool. Character design/artstyle is sick. Neat Eng dub as well, that’s how I watched it.
Cop Craft
One of the first I saw on Netflix. A buddy cop show that delves into a world that has modern with fantasy influences (a portal or something, mostly stays on human side though.) I liked the opening.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Really lowers your guard with lightheartedness before things get a little twisted. Good watch just to mix things up a bit.
*Obligatory Chainsaw Man manga recommendation. Or wait till maybe Season 2 is out cause it just doesn’t work if you stop part way into Part 1.

Edited by Fives: 8/8/2025 4:27:13 PMI just finished the Chimera Ant arc of HxH! It was incredibly weird, incredibly flawed, but incredibly powerful. 10/10 recommend

Edited by jmann43b: 8/7/2025 9:38:52 AMI used to watch anime movies; obvious ones like 'Akira,' 'Fist of the North Star,' 'Vampire Hunter D,' 'Ghost in the Shell,' and 'Ninja Scroll.' Some that may not be as well-known I really enjoyed as well like 'L.I.L.Y. Cat' and 'Wicked City.' Haven't really watched anything new, though.

Damn, I remember a simple question post like this. If you posted this 9-10 years ago, most comments would be calling you a weeb (unnecessary insults fr), while you'll get a select few answers related to your question.

Not very often, but I do enjoy one every now and then. My #1 recommendation is always Flip Flappers. Genre hopping magical girl nonsense, it’s great. Other than that, I also remember enjoying Dragon Ball Z/GT, No. 6, Stein’s Gate, Shiki, and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. I also like the Gen 3 Pokémon show (Advanced through Battle Frontier). The TWEWY anime was okay, too, but the game is definitely the better way to experience the story. Do note, it’s been years since I watched any of these, so take any recommendations with a grain of salt. I may be misremembering them as better than they were. I’m also in the middle of Sailor Moon right now. Definitely worth a watch. Sailor Moon S (aka season 3) is definitely my favorite so far.

The Animatrix. It's a solid sample platter of different animation styles. And it's matrix universe stuff with some lore and whatnot. Pretty sure that's free on YouTube but the play order doesn't match what's on my DVD. Mobile Suit Gundam: 8th MS Team (EZ-8 vs Gouf Custom, PEAK!) and Char's Counter Attack. Mobile Suit Gundam, like the originals have been chopped down and cut into a couple feature lengths. Makes watching those less daunting. And then there's the Origin films. Those ain't bad. Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt has some mean Jazz in the soundtrack. I'll say Iron Blooded Orphans and Witch From Mercury are alright for more recent offerings. People talk smack about Wing, but i think the mechs are cool as F. If we don't like Char's Counterattack, try Endless Waltz. Initial D. GET IN THE CAR, SHINJI!
